Jacky jumps up from where he’s laying and runs to where Kenneth is. He knows that Joey could watch Justin and Lenny easily without help since they’re already captured.
Kenneth smiles as he sees Jacky coming towards his way.
Jacky slows down in front of Kenneth. “Sure took your precious time in getting here.”
Kenneth smiles. “So, ready to go?”
“No, not yet. There are two friends who would like to join us.”
Kenneth raises an eyebrow. “Friends?”
“Jo’s looking over them now. You can help her put them in the car. You got back-ups?”
“Gallen’s on his way. For some reason he said he wanted to talk to you about something. But then he stopped halfway, saying he needs to go buy something.”
“He’s a strange guy. Don’t worry.”
Kenneth smiles at the comment.
“What?”
“He said the same thing about you.”
“He can tell that to my face the next time I see him. And…” He pauses for dramatic effects. “I can blow his cover in front of everyone too.”
Kenneth looks confused. “Blow his cover?”
“Only Kevin among all of those guys knows about him being a P.I. The rest are clueless. That was why I had to stop you from calling his real name in front of Ray when we were talking before.”
“Oh.”
“What do you mean ‘Oh’? You blew his cover already?”
“No. But he stopped me several times today from calling his name. I thought that was strange. Somehow I stop calling his name altogether. The others call him Tim though.”
Jacky shakes his head. “I don’t know what’s going on with you, man. You’re really bright and you haven’t figured that out yet?”
Kenneth looks around, not answering Jacky.
“Okay” Jacky claps Kenneth on the shoulder. “Let’s not talk about this anymore. We need to move.”
Kenneth looks up at Jacky.
“Go help Jo first and I’ll stay here to greet Tim.” He smiles.
Kenneth couldn’t help but smile at how Jacky keeps putting the emphasis on Gallen’s fake name.
As soon as Kenneth leaves, Gallen’s car pulls up. Jacky walks up to the car. When Gallen cuts the engine, Jacky signals for him to roll down the window.
“Will need your car for transferring some friends before you’re free to go,” Jacky said.
“What?” Gallen asked, confused.
“Dear old Justin and Lenny were smart enough to stay behind and not get captured yet. Jo and I ran into them while waiting for Kenny. Actually, only Justin’s the smart one. Lenny’s just tagging along.” He smiles.
“Okay.”
Gallen gets out of the car and removes some stuffs he had in the back to be use as a temporarily prison for the “to be prisoners.” Jacky helps him and for once Jacky’s quiet. When Kenneth and Joey are approaching them, Gallen helps put them in the car and makes sure that they’re tied and bound to the point that they wouldn’t be able to cause any trouble along the way.
Jacky turns to the others when they’re done with the tasks. “You two go together in Kenny’s car. I’ll stick with Tim over here. Just in case.”
Before anyone could say anything, Jacky hops into the passenger’s side of Gallen’s car.
Gallen couldn’t say anything further but just shrugs to the others. He ends up mumbling to them, “See you guys later back at the station,” before getting into his car and starts the engine again.
Kenneth and Joey watch them go before going into Kenneth’s car to follow.
About five minutes later, Kenneth finally gathers enough strength to ask Joey.
“What happened in there?” Kenneth asked, pausing a bit before continuing. “Somehow, Jack’s different. He still jokes and all, but he’s different. I noticed it.”
“What do you mean he’s different?” Joey asked back.
“He’s more serious now.”
“That’s the old him. He used to be serious. He’s more jumpy nowadays that I wasn’t sure it’s him. But now I’m sure.”
“Really? I guess I haven’t known him that well.”
“I knew him since Police Academy 7 years ago.”
“Wow! That’s a long time.”
Joey smiles at Kenneth’s sudden exclamation since Kenneth’s not usually like that. She ponders if people are having personalities change lately. It seems like everyone around her is changing. Is this a new trend? She resumes her story after a slight moment of wonderment. “We used to be quite close.”
Kenneth takes a quick glance her way.
Joey, seeing his glance, feels the need to clarify. “I mean the 3 of us - Benny, Jack, and I.”
“Oh.”
Joey smiles. “Yea. We were the only ones there who were exactly the same age. It was really easy to get along. We had the same ideas and views on almost everything. The others used to make fun of us for “harmonizing” all the time with each other.” She sighs. “That was why I’d been acting a bit strange lately.” She couldn’t help letting out of a light smile – as if her mind is traveling back to the old days. “Since I couldn’t believe Jack has turned this goofy.”
Kenneth suddenly realizes that there are lots of things he doesn’t know about Joey. He listens intently to every detail, taking a quick glance of her every once in awhile the whole time she’s telling him the story.
“So you haven’t seen him since 7 years now?” Kenneth asked after Joey’s done.
“No. The last time I saw him was during Benny’s funeral. Three years ago. It was our last real talk.” Then she remembers something. “Charmaine was there also. But we didn’t talk. I just saw her from a distance. That’s why she doesn’t remember us either.”
“Did….” He hesitates. “…umm….”
“Go ahead.”
“Did Jack used to do undercover jobs?”
Joey smiles. “You’re fast. No wonder we’re partners.”
Kenneth smiles at her compliment.
“No. Only after Benny died. He accepted what was meant to be Benny’s next case. Then from that time on, I got transfer to another area so I haven’t heard of him since.” Her tone saddens. “And because we lost Benny, we drifted apart also. It’s too painful to handle with keeping in touch, knowing that we’re never a ‘threesome’ anymore.”
Kenneth knows that he shouldn’t have asked, seeing Joey’s sad face. He knows he has to stop with the questions even if he’s curious about the “threesome.” He clears his throat casually.
“Strange day,” He said, changing the subject.
Joey smiles. “I know. Things were going so much faster earlier and now we’re stuck in traffic.”
“You seemed to smile more nowadays. Actually, since I arrived to pick you guys up just now.”
Joey looks over at him. “Do I?”
“Yea. Must be Jack?” Kenneth beats himself up inside for being so direct.
“Must be. For old time’s sake.”
Kenneth smiles knowing that it was just “for old time’s sake.”
They sit in silence for a while, still waiting for traffic to clear. What’s supposed to be less than half an hour drive drags on.
About 5 more minutes later, Kenneth’s cell phone rings.
Kenneth looks down at the number. He realizes it’s from Jacky’s “backup” cell phone so he picks up. “What’s going on? Did something happen?”
“Yea,” Jacky said.
“They escaped?!?” Kenneth asked, alarmed.
Jacky lets out a chuckle. “Who could escape with me here? Besides, there’s also old Tim.”
Kenneth calms down again since he knows everything’s okay with Jacky’s laugh. On the other hand, Joey’s getting impatience – as always.
“Get to the point, Jack!” Joey yelled from the other side of the car.
“She’s scary, you know that?” Jacky whispered to Kenneth before resuming his normal voice. “No. We’re wondering when you two are coming back. You decided to go to the beach and enjoy the sunset?”
“We’re stuck in traffic,” Kenneth told him.
“Great. We’ll just camp here until things clear for you two. The sun’s setting soon though so enjoy.”
Jacky lets out a laugh before hanging up.
Kenneth looks over to Joey as soon as he hangs up.
Joey shrugs. “That’s Jack.”
They both laugh.

A/N: Okay, anyone notice anything weird ? In Chapter 47 - Random Talk, Jacky says that they're all the same age, except for Tim (Gallen), but Joey says that she, Jacky, and Benny are exact same age. Who's telling the truth? Who's lying? More likely Jacky's lying. Why did he lie?
And does Joey likes Jacky or she's just treating him like a good friend and/or brother? (hahahhaa)
Just bored so thought I make it a bit headache-y for you guys! See you in the next Chapter.
