"Hey, I could use some help here, you know!" She called over to them. Their heads turned but no other part of their bodies did.
"I'm sure you could, Court, but you did change my conditioner with cream last month, and this is your fault." Bettina smiled and continued eating her popcorn. She couldn't be bothered.
"It was April Fool's Day, you can't get mad at me for doing that!"
"I guess I did."
"Come on, Courtney. This is the only way you're ever gonna get Bett to forgive you..." Lauren turned, she went over to help.
"Lauren, it's her job to do it, lay it off, will ya?" Jessica sipped her drink and cuddled on the couch.
Lauren went over to help with the sweeping, but all Courtney did was thank her and took the old broom back into her sweaty hands. She continued her sweeping till night time, it was then that Bettina forgave her. It seemed like Courtney was the one who had the joke played, not her.
At nine o'clock, Lauren, Jessica, and Courtney had to leave, and Jessica turned to the second street while the other two carried on walking. "Hey, thanks for helping me, you know, with the sweeping and stuff."
"No prob, Court. I knew you since pre-school, and now that we're finally thirteen, it's nice to have back-ups like Bett and Jessie, it makes us look like a real girl group, something we never had..." she kicked a pebble into the drain and looked up. She was two inches shorter than Courtney though.
"Well, thanks anyway. We never had back-ups coz' I always tease and insult people, the truth is, they're all facts, I didn't mean to make those stuff up. Like then, when some guy from the ninth grade was talking to Bett, I had to say something." She recalled, and answered when the wind blew her hair from behind, "As far as my eavesdropping skills go, he was already held down, you wanna see our Bett get held up? I don't think so."
Lauren sighed, "I know you were doing it for her own good, it's okay already right? I mean, she forgave you, you're finally off."
They carried on walking till they reached Lauren's house, she waved and Courtney continued her way home. The sky was turning dark, and the wind blew against her red hair as she turned and entered her house.
"Courtney honey, something wrong?" Her mother asked.
"Yeah, you seem rather beat." Her father added.
"Nah. I'm fine. Bett forgave me, so it paid off."
"Good then, hope you never use April Fool's again, it hurts, not to the prankee but the prankster." Her mother smiled, she carried on folding the clothes and waited for a response.
"Yeah, I know that now, I'll be in my room."
"Oh cheer up honey, just imagine, you're going to Marine Camp in a week for summer, things will clear up." She replied and watched her daughter return to her room upstairs.
"Marine camp...Will that make a difference if I go or not? I don't think so."
