Chapter 11

Knowing You

She gave him a small tour of the place till sunset, they sat on a bench in a small park. He bought the drinks while she bought the chip. "Thanks for the tour today, Courtney. I now know BondBlue better than I thought."

"Hey no problem, really." She threw the packet of chips into the bin, "I've lived here almost all my life."

"What'd ya mean?"

"My dad was from Australia. We used to live there."

"Strange. You don't have an Australian acent..." He threw the can into the bin and walked her home, "What do you mean 'was'?"

"He died. Two years ago. In a car accident near the bridge..." Her eyes closed for a moment.

He touched her shoulder, "I'm sorry."

"We were too. It doesn't matter, I'm getting used to it." They carried on walking and the sky turned purple, orange and a little red. The sun was about to leave behind the mountains. The scene was peaceful and calm.

"When I turn fourteen, things are gonna be different, new grade, new life, new everything," she looked into the future as a way of comforting herself, "What's gonna happen to you when you turn sixteen?"

"Why? I'm fourteen this year. Do I look that old?"

"Yeah. Considering your height. Everyone wants to be older, don't you?" she turned over to face him.

"I don't really have an answer. I like being the way I am now, I mean, we all dream of being older to do things we can't do when we were young," he replied, "but when we get old, we can do less and want to be young again, why don't we just appreciate the way we are now..."

"Whoa. I've never thought of it that way, "I just don't want to be young."

"Oh trust me, being young is better than being old, weak, and always getting sick if the body is not taken care of. Aging is something I don't really like. My parents thought me that."

"Oh yeah. Come to think of it, I've never seen your parents before."

"They're divorced, I live with my father, my mom is in Jacksonville, with her husband and two kids."

"Oh, sorry about that too."

They arrived at her door. "Well, goodnight then."

"Goodnight." He waved and put his hands into his jeans pocket. Turning, he walked home.
