Chapter 12

Introduced To Capriana

"What are you talking about?" Courtney asked through the phone for the tenth time as she waited for Wayn'es answer. "Who's Capriana?"

No answer.

"Who's Capriana?" She shouted.

"Courtney honey, please do not shout. It's very late and there's many people sleeping, okay?" Her mother entered her room in a night gown, half awake.

"Okay mom."

She returned to the phone. "Who's Capriana?"

"You'll see. Meet in the park tomorrow at 12pm, I'll see you there." Then he hung up. She called him again, but no one answered.

The next day, at exactly twelve noon, she waited for him in the park on the bench where they were the day before. The sun was shining on her and she did not doubt she'll get tanned. She waited. After a moment, a shadow appeared.

"Hey! You're late! I'd probably look like a dried potato if you had shown up at two-thrity instead of now!"

"Sorry. I was looking to see if Capriana was safe."

"Is she running a fever?"

"No, just follow me."

He brought her to a place where a lot of bushes, trees and plants were. It was not the park anymore. They walked a few miles and arrived at the place. It was empty, only grass and wild flowers grew there.

"Hey Wayne, where are we?"

"In the Fields of Flora, a place I named myself. Come, just ahead is where we're heading."

He then blindfolded her with a handkerchief and lead her to the place by holding her hand. They seemed to walk a few steps down, then over a small bump on a hill, through a concrete path, up another fleet of stairs and stopped.

"Urm...Wayne, where are we? From my footsteps, it feels like we're in China."

"Keep your eyes closed," he took off the blindfold, "now, open 'em."

When she opened them, she was in a black colored room, the floor was more of dark blue and there was no roof. It was empty. There were old and broken controls at the end of the room. "Wayne, where are we?"

"This is an old place that an electronic center once used as their place of work, I hang out here to see the stars. Now, wait."

She looked around. There was a fleet of spiral stairs where she figured they came from. The rest of the room was dark. Wayne pressed a button on the controls and the roof began to close. There was no more light.

"Urm, Wayne? Feeling a little weird here."

"Hold on." He pressed a few more buttons. Then the room began to change, it looked digital and then appeared a beautiful place with flowers, grass and total nature.

There were mountains in a distance, they were standing on a coastal cliff, where many daffodils and other wild flowers grew. "Wayne? Where are we?"

"In Capriana."

"You mean it's not a person?"

"No, it's a place. This is a place I created, a whole new place, beyond any reach. A virtual reality world, of my own."

"Your work is beautiful, Wayne. It's so peaceful up here, the wind, the mountains, the flowers," she reached down to grab one. It came out, but she didn't feel anything. "It feels weird."

"Yeah. I've not mastered that part yet, you may feel all this is real, but it's not. It's not the real world, but I like it here, where no one can bother me."

"I love it. What if I fall down this cliff?"

"Don't. It's the stairs. But below is a forest, so it's like this room is our cliff. Understand? Nothing here is real, you know."

"Yeah. It's a real pity, ain't it? All your beautiful work, all fake..." She put her finger out for a little Blue Robin bird to land on it.

"That proves that no place is perfect." He smelt pinecone which he added with his mini remote control.

"I love Capriana, Wayne. It's perfect." She lay on the grass and turned her head, "hey, what's that remote control in your hands?"

"It's the control for the virtual reality portal to operate, made it myself." he replied, putting it back in his pocket.

"What happens if you don't have it?" She wondered, as she sat up.

"It'll never turn off."

"Oh."

"This place does wonders, if you stay here too long you might get too addicted to it."

"I'll spend as much of my time here now," she lay on the grass, smiled and closed her eyes, "this place is peace."
