Chapter 16

The Not-So-Great Suprise

"I think she's waking up...!" Courtney heard her mother speak of her name when her eyes open. The environment in which she saw was not clear, it took her a while to focus on one person at a time.

"M..mom?" She reached her hand out, all she saw was her mother and a nurse.

"Yes, honey, I'm right here. How are you feeling?" Ms. Beam took her daugher's hand and patted her lap.

"I'm fine. But, what am I doing here?"

"You fell and hit your head real hard," she placed her hands together while the nurse went outside. "Going into an old place for exploring? Don't ever scare me like that."

"I was not exploring. I was in Capriana, I was enjoying myself."

"Oh no, I think that bump on your head made you confused, I'll get the doctor,"

"No! I'm not suffering from confusion, I'm fine, ow..!" She tried to get up but her head seemed to hurt. It was wrapped and she realized that her left arm was broken.

"You better get some rest honey. You've slept for two days, all your friends are getting worried about you. Oh yes, there's something that might cheer you up, you'll be discharged in two days. Isn't that great? You can go home."

"Yeah. Great." She went back to sleep.

Her mother drove her home two days later and helped her to her room, "I have news for you," she said as she sat at the corner of Courtney's bed.

"That's good. Any good news now is better than nothing."

"Okay then, well, you know Grandmother Ruth from Australia?"

she suddenly remembered her father, her smile faded, "Yeah? Is she visiting?"

"No, we're going there."

"During a school week?"

"No, I don't think you understand...We are moving."

"WHAT?" She called out, she ignored all her injuries.

"You heard me Courtney. Your grandmother is very ill and needs our help, we are moving back to Perth to take care of her, Aunt Amelia can't take care of her since she has to take care of Amy."

"Amy?" Courtney pondered, "you mean, the adoptee?"

"You know that we can't regard her as an adoptee anymore, she's three this year and she's getting so many illnesses, without uncle Ben there it's hard. So we're moving."

"I understand. Is there any possible way that I can talk myself out of going?"

"No."

"Fine. When are we leaving?" She wondered and tried to walk, her foot still hurt, but she felt the ability to stand it.

"In three days, Sunday."
