Chapter 5

On Moonshone Island

When they reached the island, the girls were beginning to take part in their activities. According to Courtney, Natasha's buddy was Tyde, Penny's was another girl like her, quiet and all, named Muriel. Kylie was with Benjamin, Brigit was with Jon, and Jenny was with Jennifer. She did not know their surnames, only the first names.

They were all having so much fun with their buddies, only Courtney felt lonely. She did not know anyone else. The others were swimming, running, studying sea creatures (Penny and Muriel)building sandcastles, collecting stuff they find interesting on the beach and other stuff.

Courtney was sitting alone near the shore in her swimming costume. She was gazing at the ocean view, and spotted Wayne doing the same. Only that he was sitting under a coconut tree, in the shade, she wasn't.

She walked over.

"Heya. Havin' a good time?" She asked.

"Yeah. I guess. Nothing to do, you know. Just gazing at the ocean makes peace when everyone else is doing something."

"Oh. Alright then, enjoy your 'peace'." Courtney turned to walk away. With a slip, she accidentally fell at the edge and hit the huge rock.

Wayne saw it and ran over to lift her up. "Are you alright, Courtney? That looked like such a bad fall."

"Yeah, I'm fine. But I think my knee is bleeding."

"We'd better get you to Ms. San for the first aid kit." he lifted her up and brought her to the ship.

Courtney decided to spend the rest of the lonely day with Wayne, and he didn't mind. They ventured into the tiny forest filled with nature.

They entered the forest and Wayne explained many things to her, he was an expert in Science and loved nature. As she gazed at the birds and animals on the trees, she tripped on a 'bounced' tree root and almost fell. But Wayne managed to catch her arm and lifted her up.

"That was a close one, are you okay?"

"I'm fine. This is a very bad day for me."

"Cheer up, I'll show you a flower valley just up ahead, I've studied Moonshone Island on my computer before... That might be able to cheer you up." He pointed the direction.

"Thanks."

"My pleasure."

When they arrived, it was very dark and the place was quiet. She could only feel grass at her feet with little flies buzzing around her. "This is what you call Flower Valley?"

"This is not flower valley." He was on a tree already, as the tree had strong branches, it could 'stand' his weight.

Wayne grabbed a few thinner branches from the treetop and shifted them aside till sunlight could enter the valley. Shafts of light shone into the valley and brightened up the area. The flowers were multi-colored, there was more of them than the grass in the whole valley.

The flies were actually butterflies fluttering around the flowers and her feet. He slid down from the trees and landed by her side.

"Hey, how's the flowers?" Wayne asked.

"This is so beautiful, Wayne. I've never seen it in my life, now I had." Her eyes shone happily. It seemed that his method of cheering her up had worked.

"Do you like it?"

"Like, duh! It's like I'm seeing a fantasy which only happens in my dreams." She replied.

"Well, dreams come true if you think of it that way..." He smiled.

Back at the shore, they were doing head counts and riding the ship back to camp, Wayne and Courtney were talking happily throughout the trip back.

The ship stopped and the campers got off before the coaches did, the head count was done again before they were all asked to return to their dorms.

"Thanks for the day, Wayne. It was fun. I forgot about my bleeding knee, thanks." Courtney said as the campers returned to their dorms.

Her friends were all running back into their dorms but Jenny decided to wait and spotted Courtney and Wayne.

"No problem, I had nothing on anyway." He said and walked away.

She walked over and spotted Jenny. "Heya Jen, what's keepin' ya hangin'?"

"Nothing. Only that you have a boyfriend!" She blurted out.

"He is not my boyfriend, silly. I hurt my knee and he cheered me up, that's all. Don't go getting any funny ideas, it might embarrass him." She punched Jenny playfully.

"Oh fine, whatever you say, Court. Can I at least tell the Unique Clique girls?"

"I dunno. You think about it. But tell them the truth. If not, rumors will spread, okay?" Courtney replied.

"Okay then."
