Chapter 23

Surprised Deliveries

"She just left with your son a couple of minutes ago."

"My wife?"

"Isn't your wife Yoon Eun Hye? She just paid her bill with her credit card."

He got up and ran to the exit. He looked everywhere, but she wasn't in sight. His client finally arrived and looked at him weirdly. "Is everything okay?" He looked at who was speaking to him.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought I just saw someone. You're here. Let's get started." They both walked into the cafe.

He went home at 2 in the morning and found his bed empty. He went to Yoojin's room and gave Yoojin a goodnight kiss. He walked to the guest room and found her sleeping there. He walked up to her and knelt down. He looked at her face and brushed her cheeks. She stirred and woke up.

"Ji Hoon....you're home." She looked over at the clock and it read 2:38 a.m. "Are you hungry?" She got up, but he pushed her back down.

"No. I'm fine." He got up and left.

She couldn't stop thinking about the woman at the cafe. She got up anyway and went to look for him. She didn't see him in his room so she went to his study. He was sitting in his chair with his eyes closed leaning his head back.

"Is everything okay?"

He looked up at her and nodded. "I'm sorry I woke you up."

"It's okay. Are you going to sleep yet?" She walked over and sat at the chair across from him.

"Not yet. I have some things to do first."

"Ji Hoon...."

He looked at her. "Why aren't you sleeping in my room?"

"I....I don't want..yesterday..."

"Oh...I see."

She got up to leave and reached for the door.

"What did you and Yoojin do today?"

She stopped reaching for the door halfway. "We...we went to get some things for the house. Why?"

"Nothing....I was just wondering." He knew that she must have saw him and left. He saw the receipt and it was her signature. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight." She walked out and closed the door. She leaned against the door. She didn't have the courage to ask him who the woman was.

The following week, they both took Yoojin to school. They were walking up to the teacher who was facing her back to them.

"Ms. Lee, I'm here."

Ms Lee turned around and smile. "Yoojin, you're finally here."

Eun Hye was speechless. She was the same woman from the cafe.

"Ji Hoon,.." She kissed him on the cheeks. "It was good seeing you last week."

Ji Hoon smiled. "Yeah." Eun Hye just looked at the woman.

"Yoojin, who's this?"

"Ms. Lee, this is my mommy."

"Your mommy?" She looked from Yoojin to Ji Hoon, but no one said anything.

"Hi. I'm Eun Hye." She held her hand out.

Ms. Lee shook hands with Eun Hye and smiled questioningly.

Luckily, the bell rang to distract the awkwardness. "Ok, everyone, inside the class." Ms. Lee turned to look at them again. "I've got to go. Nice meeting you, Mrs. Joo. Bye Ji Hoon."

Eun Hye looked over at Ji Hoon, but he didn't seem to notice. Ms. Lee left them standing there and followed the children into the classroom.

Ji Hoon looked at his watch and then saw her staring at him. "Is something wrong?"

She snapped out of her daze. "Are you running late? I'll take a taxi home." She turned the other way, but he grabbed her hand.

"No, I'm fine. Let's go. Did you want me to drop you somewhere? Or just go home?"

The drive back home was quiet. She finally spoke. "Why was Ms. Lee surprised about me?"

He turned to look at her. "Because....she knows that I'm not married."

It was silent again, all the way home. He dropped her off and went to work.

At work, he was wondering why she asked that question. He called the auto dealership because he noticed that she didn't have a car and always had to depend on him or take a taxi.

"Hi, what is the best car you guys have for safety?......I'd like to buy one......Can you guys deliver it to my house?.....Yes...just do a transaction from my account....I'll come by another time to sign the papers....Thank you."

Later that day, she was in his study on the computer e-mailing her clients asking for their addresses. There was a piece of paper sticking out under the keyboard. She took it out and it was a receipt. It was a receipt for a bracelet that was delivered to his house. The price was high and she wondered who it was for. There was a knock at the door. She went to get the door. There was a man there holding a clipboard.

"Is this the Joo resident?"

"Yes."

"We have a delivery for Yoon Eun Hye."

"Oh." She looked at him and he looked at her. "Where is it?"

"Uh....it's outside. You need to come out and then sign the delivery papers."

"Oh, I'm sorry." She walked outside and found a gigantic box with a bow on it. "What is it? Why is it so big?"

"I'm sorry I can't tell you." He handed her the clipboard. "Can you sign this, please?"

She signed the papers and went to look at the box. She didn't know what to do. She just went back into the house. Just a few seconds later the door bell rang again. She turned around to open the door. There was a different guy there with a clipboard.

"Hi...may I help you?"

"Is this the Joo resident?"

"Yes."

"We have a delivery."

"For who?"

"For a...." He looked down at his clipboard. "A...Yoon Eun Hye."

"Oh, that's me." He handed her a little box and had her sign the clip board. "Thank you."

"Your welcome." The delivery man left and she closed the door.

She opened the box and found a pair of keys. "What is this?"

She hit the button on the remote on the car keys and all of a sudden, there was a blaring noise outside. She pressed it again and it died. She opened the door and looked over at the box.
