Chapter 33

Whose Life

"Lawyer Kim, do you think that I have a chance of winning this court case?"

Mr. Kim looks over at both Ji Hoon and Eun Hye. "It seems that you guys would have had a better chance if you guys were already married and taking care of him together like a family."

"But, we're getting married soon."

"Well, that's not how the court will see it. They'll see it as he was raised in a single parent family. It would be a better chance if you let him know about both sides of his family. He wouldn't be confused or scared of what's going to be happening."

They both went home not knowing what to do. They were both in Ji Hoon's study room. "Ji Hoon I don't know what to do. I don't want to lose him."

"Eun Hye..." He walks over to her and touched her cheeks. "I don't want to either. I will do my best to keep him."

"How could Boa and Kangta have done that. None of their families knew about Yoojin."

"They probably didn't want to cause any stress towards their parents."

Eun Hye walked to the door and had her hand on the door knob. "Ji Hoon, you should have come sooner."

Ji Hoon looked up at her seeing her turning to face him.

"It would have been different."

"How?"

"Eun Hye, I know that sometimes you still miss him."

Eun Hye looked down to the floor knowing what he meant.

"You wanted nothing to do with me, remember? You even moved from here and stayed in Seoul to avoid me."

"Why did you decide to come now then?"

"Because....I knew it was time."

Eun Hye looked up at him confused. "Time?"

"That Yoojin's family would be looking for him."

"You knew?"

"Yes. I wanted to marry you as soon as possible, but you were still unwilling."

"So,...you had it all planned? Meeting each other in Seoul? Me being back here so I could bump into Yoojin?"

"No...it was all an accident. You were never supposed to know about him until after we married."

"After?"

"Eun Hye, I don't want to get into a fight. Let's stop here."

"You used me from the beginning. Yoojin mistaking me to be his mother was all part of your plan. Wasn't it? Having him know me as his mother was all part of the plan." Eun Hye turned around and left the room.

"Eun Hye, I'm sorry. I didn't want to use you, but you were the best choice." Ji Hoon whispered to the silent room.

(Flashback)
Ji Hoon on various blind dates, but none of the girls would have been a good mother to his son.

One would be too skanky. The other would be too happy. One would be too short tempered. The other would be too excited.

During a blind date at a coffee shop, he saw a newspaper featuring Yoon Eun Hye being a well known plastic surgeon. He read through the article and knew he found the right girl.

He went to her mother and asked for her help. He told her everything and Eun Hye's mom agreed to help him with everything. Including the hospital part. Her mother never had a bad heart in the first place. The doctor was always giving her recent updates of her fake health.
(End Flashback)

Eun Hye went into Yoojin's room and found him playing on the computer. "Yoojin..."

Yoojin turned to see his mom at the doorway. "Mom, why are you sad?"

Eun Hye broke down not knowing what to do because she was tricked into this relationship, but she was also happy to become a mother so early into it. "Yoojin, your dad....why is he so mean?"

Yoojin ran to his mother and she knelt down to hug him.

"Why did he do that to me? Why did he let me know about you? Why was I the one he chose? Why of all the girls, did he pick out? Your dad..Yoojin....why?"

"Because I've always loved you. Who else could be the mother of my child?"

Both Eun Hye and Yoojin turned to the door to see Ji Hoon standing there.

Yoojin was scared because he did not know what his mom was talking about. He turned to his dad. "Daddy? What is mommy talking about?"

"Eun Hye, we didn't finish talking yet."

"I'm done talking. I'll be going back to Seoul tomorrow."

"Seoul? Why? The wedding..."

"There is no wedding. Why now? We'll lose Yoojin anyways."

Eun Hye got up and went up to him. "I don't want to be a part of your game."

She walked past him and into her room and started packing her clothes.

Yoojin looked up at his dad to see him crying.

"Daddy.....is mommy leaving again?"

Yoojin ran up to his dad and hugged his leg.

"Yoojin....don't worry."

It was a quiet night. Everyone was in their room. Eun Hye's mom had heard the fight earlier and knew she shouldn't interfere now. Eun Hye was silently crying in her room looking at her engagement ring, Yoojin drawing pictures of his mom leaving their family, Eun Hye's mom looking at past pictures of both their families, and Ji Hoon drinking himself to numbness.

In Ji Hoon's study room was the wedding ring he had gotten for her sitting on his desk. Early the next morning, Eun Hye walked into his study room and saw him sleeping over his desk. She walked over to him and lightly brushed his hair from his face. She put the ring next to the wedding ring. She picked up the wedding ring and looked at it.

"It was all a lie. It's better to just not know that this relationship ever existed." Eun Hye whispered to Ji Hoon. She turned around to leave, but he held onto her hand. She turned around and saw that he was still sleeping. She got her wrist out of his grasp and walked to the door. Her mother was standing at the doorway.

"Where are you going?"

"Mother, I'm going back to my life."

"Your life? What about the life in you?"

Suddenly, it finally snapped. She finally remembered that it was not just her anymore. She touched her tummy and began to cry.
