Chapter 2: The Heir to La Gourmet, The pilot, and the photographer
“What’s all the commotion about?” Nancy asked as the three of them walked towards the terminal. They were about check that everything is in order before letting the passengers board the plane.
“Let’s find out.” Leila exclaimed as she abandoned her luggage and ran towards the group of squealing girls.
Nancy rolled her eyes as she watched her overly excited friend run towards a pack of five or so girls surrounding someone. They were all flight attendants that just arrived in Hong Kong from Beijing.
“Must be a guy. Nobody can get our Lei this excited over nothing.” Tavia snorted as she followed Leila’s petite form trying to butt into the crowd. She was small, but strong, don't underestimate her.
Leila ran back towards them, her eyes bright and wild. “It’s the new captain! Bosco Wong!”
Tavia grinned and nudged Nancy. Nancy rolled her eyes and walked ahead, her luggage trailing behind her.
Both Leila and Tavia caught up with her; their favorite hobby. Teasing Nancy, Shopping, and gossiping.
---
“You’re so handsome!” A girl exclaimed as she batted her eyelashes in a way she thought it was seductive.
Bosco thought she looked like there was something in her eyes, and was trying to get it out by blinking rapidly.
“Want to go somewhere with me?” Another girl asked as she touched his arm.
“Make way, ladies.” A voice cut in as Bosco looked at the man that came to his rescue.
“Sorry ladies, Bosco has to meet my friends.” Without another word, he pulled Bosco away from the pack of animals—I mean…flight attendants.
“Thanks man.” Bosco breathed a sigh of relief as he patted his friend, also the first officer.
“Yeah, gotta watch your back. Beijing girls can get pretty feisty sometimes. Anyway, come meet my three pretty lady friends.” He said as Bosco gave him a wary glance.
“Chris—“ Bosco started, but was cut off by Chris.
“I know what you’re about to say. Why don’t you see for yourself? My friends are ladies, not girls. It’s a bit early, but we can check out the cockpit.” Chris grinned as the two walked towards the terminal.
“Leila, Tavia, and Nancy.” Chris introduced the three of them as he smiled and nodded politely at them.
Leila and Tavia was already grinning from ear to ear. Sizzing hot? Damn right!
Nancy eyed him as she gave him a quick once over. He WAS hot, standing at 5’ll, he was tall, dark and handsome. Nancy grinned at him and he returned with a quick, one second smile.
Tavia and Leila stifled their giggles as they nudged each other. Chris rolled his eyes as the two walked towards the cockpit.
“Looks like he isn’t too interested into our dear Nancy.” Tavia teased as she draped her arm around both Leila and Nancy’s shoulder.
Leila giggled. “Aw, is someone losing their charm?”
“He’s pretty cute…mysterious too. I like.” Nancy said as a big grin slowly worked its way on her face.
Leila and Tavia smiled at each other. It had been a while since Nancy had settled down with a guy. They had a feeling this time was the charm.

Ella walked around the busy streets, trying to get inspiration. She had absolutely no idea on what her next book should be about.
“Watch out!” A man’s voice warned. Before she could turn around, she was knocked off her feet.
“owwww…” She moaned as she rubbed her bottom.
“Sorry miss. Are you okay?” The same voice asked as she looked up. The sun was in her way. She had to squint to see the klutz. She allowed him to pull her up onto her feet.
“Ella? Ella Hsuan?” The excited voice asked as she looked at him. He looked familiar. Who would forget such a face?
“I’m Ron Ng! Remember me?” Ron pointed to himself as he grinned at her.
Ella stared at him. “You were at my autograph session.” Ella said as she smiled.
He nodded, and then smiled sheepishly. “Sorry about that, I was running away from someone. You see, I’m a photographer, and this woman thought I was taking secret pictures of her.”
She nodded and glanced behind him. There was nobody who looked like he or she was coming at him with a butcher knife.
“Must have lost her.” He said as she nodded.
“Hey, how about I treat you to lunch?” He asked as she gave him a weird look.
“I don’t even know you, why should I accept?” Ella asked, completely finding his suggestion weird. This was their second time seeing each other, and this wasn’t such a pleasant meeting either. He was already asking her out? But she didn’t mind eating with a hottie though. But she wasn't about to admit that.
He rubbed his neck in embarrassment. “I don’t bite. I’m a nice guy. I just want to treat the beautiful lady to lunch…as an apology for knocking you off your feet. I promise, if I mistreat or offend you in any way, you can slap me.”
Ella thought for a while. What was life without the risks? Besides, it was broad daylight and she had taken self-defense classes in Uni. She grinned. “I don't turn down free offers, and I eat a lot.”
He grinned. “I’ll manage, unless you order everything on the menu.”
She laughed. “Good suggestion. You'll regret you ever said that.”
The two laughed as the two crossed the street.
---
“Michelle…almost everybody’s gone. Actually, everybody is gone. It’s only me and you.” Sharon said as she rapped lightly on Michelle’s office door. Balled up pieces of paper littered the floor as Sharon stepped inside.
Michelle looked up. “Oh, hey Sharon. You should go home, you look tired.” Michelle looked up briefly as she smiled at her best friend.
“Yeah, home. Sounds like a good idea. Let’s go.” Sharon said as she walked over to Michelle, peering over her shoulder.
“Nah, I want to finish this. You go home first. Get home safely.” Michelle patted her friend’s arm lightly and went back to her work.
Sharon frowned. “You overwork yourself too much. Let’s go. This design is in no rush, you can finish it anytime.” Sharon said as she looked at Michelle’s determined face.
Michelle only smiled at her. Sharon sighed, knowing that her friend will not give up until she was done.
“Okay then, be careful okay? Give me a call when you get home.” Sharon said as she walked towards the door.
“Okay, let me know when you arrive home safely.” Michelle responded as Sharon walked to the elevator.
---
“Idiot. Idiot people!” A young man cursed under his breath as he looked waited for the elevator to arrive. He stepped in and pressed the button.
“Hello? Someone called for takeout?” His voice rang through the dimmed out office as he poked his head inside. He was about to turn on his heels and walk right back out when he noticed that one of the office lights were on.
He walked towards the office and noticed a young woman around his age scribbling furiously onto a piece of white paper in her sketching pad.
Annoyed, he walked in her office without knocking on the door. He stood before her, and when she didn’t look up, he got frustrated.
He plopped the white plastic bag containing food inside on the table. It was only then, that Michelle knew there was another person in the room with her.
Taken by surprise, she jolted and yanked her arm back. Her pen flew across the paper, drawing a thick, black line across her design.
She gasped and tried to erase it.
When he noticed that she didn’t even look up at him, he got mad. “Look lady, just give me the money so I can leave.” The voice spoke as she looked up at him.
When she was definite that her design was ruined, she looked up at him—more like glared at him.
As mad as he was, he didn’t fail to notice her beauty; her jet black hair that framed her heart shaped face, those big, bright eyes, her full red lips, her perky nose and fair skin. But it was only for a second. She leaned back in her chair, tilted her head and stared up at him.
His eye twitched. What did he look like? A piece of painting at the museum for people to examine and criticize over?
“What are you looking at?” He spat as he looked down at her.
She remained quiet, studying him for a moment before clearing her throat. “What do you want?”
He laughed. “What do I want? What do I want? Money! That’s what I want!” He raked a hand through his hair in frustration. What was her damn problem?
She lifted an eyebrow as her eyes traveled to the white plastic bag. “I didn’t order anything.”
He sighed. “Look, I haven’t got all day. I have things to do, places to go. My dad was nice and let all the employees go. We received an order last minute and he made the HEIR to La Gourmet deliver your food.” He put extra emphasis on the word, revealing his importance.
Michelle sat up straight and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Remind me again why you are telling me all this?”
He sighed nosily. “Okay, okay, you win. Just give me the money and I’m outta here!” He had no energy left to argue with this unreasonable woman here. As much as he refused to prove the theory that ‘no man can win an argument over a female’ correct, he had a long day and was utterly tired. He adamantly refused to pose as a delivery boy and deliver food, but he had no choice. It was family business, and he wasn't about to let his dad deliver.
Michelle remained as calm as ever. She stood her ground. She knew it must be Sharon who ordered food for her, but he had scared her shitless before, and now her design is ruined. She had to start all over.
“I hate people of your kind.” He man spat as he turned on his heels and walked out. The baked ziti only cost around eight dollars; he’ll put in money from his pocket.
“The feeling is mutual.” Michelle responded as he scowled. She smiled. Arguing and making this ‘heir to La Gourmet’ fuming mad just made her day. She wasn’t in such a good mood earlier, now the dark clouds over her head parted, allowing the sunshine to take over. Smiling, she slipped her purse onto her shoulder, grabbed the plastic bag from the counter and made her way home. Ella loved baked ziti, the girl loved food, period.
