Chapter 29: A mouthful of I Love You's
“No, no! Over there! No, over there! Left, a little to your right, a bit more left, NO, STUPID!” Leila’s frustrated voice continued to rise as she jumped off the couch she was standing on to conk Chris over the head.
“Ow! Why don’t you try putting this thing on the wall while I listen to your confusing right, left directions?!” Chris yelled as he was hit over the head again.
“Tomorrow’s the wedding. Can’t you at least listen to me for once?” Leila had her hands on her hips as Chris put their wedding portrait down, jumped down the chair and encircled Leila’s waist.
“Of course, honey. Of course. I’ll do whatever you say.” Chris said as he planted a kiss on Leila’s neck.
“And who says I was whipped?” Bosco sniggered as he peered at the bickering couple from behind the door.
---
“Give me a banana.” Tavia ordered as Kenneth scuttled from his spot from behind the television and into the kitchen to get Tavia her banana.
“Actually, I want a soda.” Tavia said as Kenneth tried his best to hold in the groan. Placing the banana back on the kitchen counter, he opened the fridge and picked up the coke.
“I change my mind. I want chocolate.” Tavia was very much enjoying every bit watching Kenneth scuttle around like a petty maid while trying not to explode as she made herself comfortable on the couch.
“HURRY UP WITH THE TELEVISION!” Tavia boomed as Kenneth neglected to plug the wires in to dig through the fridge for her chocolate.
“God, why can’t you give me four extra arms?” Kenneth wailed to himself as he quickly threw the bar of chocolate to Tavia and scurried behind the television again, holding the three colored wires.
“KENNETH MA!” Tavia’s loud voice made him jump a foot into the air as he was concentrating on the wires. Great, now he just lost his concentration.
“DO NOT THROW CHOCOLATE AT A PREGNANT WOMAN!” Tavia scolded as Bosco turned red from holding in his laughter.
“Who’s the wimp now? Who’s the wimp?” Bosco roared with silent laughter as he pressed his back against the corridor hall. Leila, Chris, Tavia and Kenneth were having a double wedding tomorrow, and were currently being bossed around by two measly women they were soon to be called wife.
---
“Do you, Chris Lai, take Leila Tong as your lawfully wedded wife, through thick and thin, happiness and sadness; in holy matrimony till death do you part?” The priest smiled sincerely at the couples before him as Chris grinned.
“I do.”
“Do you, Leila Tong, take Chris Lai as your lawfully wedded husband, through thick and thin, happiness and sadness; in holy matrimony till death do you part?” The priest turned patiently and calmly towards Leila, who nodded.
“I do.”
“Do you, Kenneth Ma, take Tavia Yeung as your lawfully wedded wife, through thick and thin, happiness and sadness; in holy matrimony till death do you part?” The priest had turned to the other couple who stood before him as Kenneth grinned his goofy smile and nodded.
“I do.”
“Do you, Tavia Yeung, take Kenneth Ma as your lawfully wedded husband, through thick and thin, happiness and sadness; in holy matrimony till death do you part?”
“I do.”
“Is there anybody in the room who objects to the marriage of these two lovely couples? Speak now or forever hold your peace.” The priest scanned the large crowd almost with frantic eyes and smiled in relief when nobody jumped up to yell, objection!
“You may exchange rings.” The priest watched happily as a large diamond ring was slipped onto the fourth finger of Tavia and Leila’s right hand and vice versa.
“You have my blessings. I now pronounce you man and wife; you may kiss your bride.” The priest grinned and clasped his hands in front of him as Chris and Kenneth almost simultaneously lifted Leila and Tavia’s veil respectively and pressed their lips against their bride. Everybody in the room stood up and clapped.
---
“You look so pretty you could be the bride yourself.” Raymond whispered into Michelle’s ear as she pinched his arm lightly.
“You wish.” Michelle whispered back as he groaned.
“I’ve proposed to you more than three times already!” Raymond whined as Michelle grinned.
“Didn’t I tell you I’ll marry you when the third franchise of La Gourmet opens in Hong Kong? Why are you in such a hurry for?” Michelle asked as Raymond sat down, pulling her on top of his lap.
“I’m anxious. I can’t wait until you’re Mrs. Lam! Besides, I want you to know how sincere I am.” Raymond pouted like a child as Michelle laughed and tweaked his nose.
“Then you suffer the consequences. Are you thinking I’m going to run into the arms of a mysterious handsome stranger or what?” Michelle asked as she held up her hand. There, a big diamond the size of a rock protruded from Michelle’s finger as Raymond grabbed her hand and pressed his lips against the smoothness of her hand.
“If an engagement ring can bind you to me, I won’t be afraid. But you’re too beautiful, smart, and intelligent for your own good. Did you know how many time I had to fight off a suitor for you? That’s not fun, honey. Not fun at all.” Raymond pouted as he dropped his head on her shoulder and pouted silently, his hands pressed against her flat tummy.
She laughed and rested the palm of her hand on his cheek. “Silly, you’re the only one I love. Why put yourself through all that trouble in getting rejected? Publicly, too?” Michelle leaned down to place a kiss on his forehead as he shook his head.
“I don’t mind…as long as I’m not humiliating you.”
Michelle laughed softly at her boyfriend’s thoughtfulness. Where can you find such a perfect guy nowadays?
“You big idiot.” Michelle murmured as Raymond lifted his head, cupping her cheek as the two moved in for a kiss.
---
“Did I ever tell you how much I like your broad shoulders?” Nancy giggled as she closed her eyes, swaying to the music as she rest her forehead against the cook of his neck.
“No.” Bosco chuckled. She felt the vibrations of his laugh as she smiled.
“They’re strong shoulders. I have a fetish for strong, broad shoulders.” Nancy whispered as she wrapped her arms tighter around his neck.
“Oh yeah, then I’m glad I have…strong, broad shoulders.” Bosco laughed as he shifted his hands to lace his fingers behind her waist.
“What do you like about me, Bosco?” Nancy gazed up at him as she planted a small kiss on his chin.
Bosco seemed to be thinking. “I really don’t know, Nancy. I love everything about you. It’s like you’re too good to be true, that out of all these guys, you pick me out of this whole pile of garbage.” Bosco blushed; how could something so disgustingly sweet come out of his mouth?
Nancy giggled. Sweet talk, no matter now sickenly sweet it was, to a girl, it was always music to her ears. “You’re definitely not garbage. More like gold.” Nancy’s eyes sparkled with love as he chuckled and nuzzled her neck with his nose. He was finally sort of coming out of his shyness and acting more boldly. But shyness was one of his qualities that Nancy found uber cute, something neither Raymond nor Ron has.
“You really look pretty in pink.” Nancy giggled as Bosco groaned, mentally kicking himself for blushing all the time.
“But I like it.” Nancy whispered as she stood on tip tops and kissed the side of his blushing cheek softly.
---
“I’m glad you have high metabolism, or I’ll kick you to the curb when you start weighing five hundred pounds.” Ella said as she watched Ron scarf down food.
“No you won’t, you won’t even be able to shove me an inch when I start weighing five hundred pounds.” Ron grunted in between mouthful of food as Ella rolled her eyes in disgust.
“Have you no manners?” Ella threw the napkin at Ron as he swallowed his food, wiped his mouth, shoved his plate of food away and turned to the scowling Ella, who had turned her back on him.
He eyed the plate of food longingly, and then gazed at Ella’s back. Sighing, he wrapped his arms around his girlfriend and placed a kiss on the spot under her earlobe. “See, baby, I gave up food for you.”
Ella snorted. “Glad you made the hard decision of choosing food over your lovable girlfriend.”
Ron smiled. “You know you’re always my number 1.” Ron grabbed Ella’s hand gently and brought it to his lips.
She turned her head to glare at him. “You’re lucky you’re so good at sweet talking, or you’d be at the curb trying to hail a taxi a long time ago.”
Ron chuckled and saluted her. “Yes ma’am!”
“Good boy.” Ella patted his head like you would a cute puppy. She giggled as he placed small feathery kisses along her neck and onto her exposed shoulders.
“Ugh, get a room.” Sharon said as the two looked up to see Wallace and Sharon. Wallace had his arm draped casually around Sharon, who had her arm wrapped around his waist.
Ella laughed. “I believe you guys would have done it then and there that night we had the dinner with Raymond’s dad if not for uncle and auntie.”
Sharon went red and buried her face into his chest.
Wallace chuckled. “We should have, shouldn’t we? Give them a free show.”
He yelped when Sharon 'accidentally' kicked him in the skin. “Ouch, ooh, did you hear that nasty crack?”
Ron chuckled. “You’re lucky you’re her boyfriend. She’s watching for herself, if not, she’d knee you where it hurt.”
Ella slapped Ron’s thigh, laughing hysterically, as Wallace scowled. "Not funny, not funny at all."
---
“Come on, let’s dance!” The soft, calming music had turned loud as Ella shot up, grabbed Sharon’s arm and tugged her away from Wallace.
“Let’s find Michelle and Nancy!” Sharon shouted over the music as Ella bobbed her head in agreement.
“Oh look at them, they’re really next in line following Tav and Lei’s footsteps of a married life!” Sharon squealed as the two found Michelle and Raymond in a lip lock as Ella reached out to tap Raymond’s shoulder.
He looked up to see Sharon and Ella grinning down at him. “Ron and Wallace are looking for you, and I have to borrow my sister.” Ella said as she pulled Michelle up by the hand and proceeded to look for their youngest sister.
Sharon grinned when her eyes landed on Jessica. “Aunt Jess! Come over and dance with us!”
Jessica grinned, kissed her husband on the lips and bounced over to the girls, who were making their way onto the dance floor where Michelle had spotted Nancy and Bosco leaving.
“Nance!” Ella yelled as Nancy turned around, caught her sister’s eyes and told Bosco to go off first.
“Having any fun, girls?” Jessica yelled over the music as they bumped and grinded to the trance music.
“Of course! Hey, Uncle is coming up from behind you!” Nancy screamed as she winked at Jessica who took a step back and pressed herself against Louis’s chest.
He winked at his nieces and rested his hands on his wife’s hips.
The trance music died down to a soft soothing melody as Nancy groaned. “And here, I thought I could get pissed drunk crazy and trash Lei and Tav’s banquet.”
Michelle laughed. “Fat chance.”
In the next moment, they found themselves in their other half’s arms, dancing the night away.
“When did you creep up to me?” Michelle asked playfully as she tapped Raymond’s nose.
He shrugged. “I’ve been keeping an eye on you in case I have to fulfill my boyfriend duties as bodyguard.”
Michelle laughed. “I’m sure I won’t be getting into any trouble with all my nice sisters and friends, my cop uncle, and my sweet boyfriend.”
“You got that right.” Raymond puffed out his chest proudly as they bumped into Bosco and Nancy, who was dancing near them.
“Let’s switch partners!” Nancy announced as she detached herself from Bosco and launched herself at Raymond.
Michelle gave Raymond a ‘good luck’ look as Nancy glared up at him.
“Do you get intimidated by Nancy at all?” Michelle asked as Bosco wrapped one arm around Michelle’s waist, holding her right hand up with his left.
Bosco chuckled. “I would be lying to my future sister-in-law if I said no.”
Michelle laughed. “Good answer. But if anything, let me tell you her weakness, she’s super scared of the non-existing monster under the bed.”
Bosco roared with laughter. “Are you for real?”
Michelle nodded. “When she was ten, we always bribed her with that.”
Bosco nodded. “Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind.”
---
“You hurt my sister, and I can promise you my fist will be in your mouth before you can scream help.” Nancy smiled sweetly as Raymond chuckled.
“You wanted to switch partners just to tell me that?” Raymond asked in disbelief to Nancy’s weirdness side as she shook her head.
“And to also thank you for pulling Michelle out of the dumps. You know, Edison was a pretty big impact on her…and then you came along and added salt to the wound.”
Raymond looked embarrassed and ashamed when Nancy mentioned it. “But you got your punishment; I’m sure courting Michelle after that wasn’t an easy task. After all, my sister is known in the design industry for being stubborn and hard-headed. Anyway, sweep my sister off her feet, she deserves it.” Giving Raymond a pat on the shoulder, she whisked out of his arms and dragged a surprised Michelle back to him.
“Michelle, your sister is so weird.” Raymond said as soon as she was back into his arms.
Michelle laughed. “You haven’t seen enough yet.”
Raymond shook his head. “But I envy your sisterly relationship. You guys have a great bond.”
“You betcha.” Michelle answered as the two smiled at one another.
---
“I see that Nancy’s had that talk with Raymond. You’re next.” Ella whispered to Ron as he blinked, confused.
“What?” No longer did she say that when Ella was wrenched away from him and was replaced with the youngest of the Hsuan sisters.
Ron blinked stupidly for a minute. “Uh…hi Nancy.”
“Come on, you can do better than that.” Nancy laughed as Ron continued to blink.
“Uh…Hiya Nancy!” Ron chirped with more enthusiasm as Nancy rolled her eyes and laughed.
“You are so lame, just like El sometimes.”
~
“Wow, I get to dance with all the Hsuan sisters in one night. Nancy sure is a busy woman.” Bosco laughed as Ella shook her head.
“Yeah, she acts like our father. Not even Louis is this embarrassing at times.” Ella laughed as both their eyes were trained on Ron and Nancy.
“She’s giving him a hard time.” Bosco noticed as Ella laughed, nodding her head in agreement.
“Sometimes, I think Michelle and Nancy were fighting to burst out of mother’s womb and Michelle won…somehow. Nancy can be childish at times, but she likes taking Michelle’s role of big sister.” Ella said as Bosco chuckled.
“Man, I got myself a manipulative girlfriend.” Bosco shook his head as he watched Ron cringe.
“Don’t you let her hear that, or she’ll have your head.” Ella joked as the two laughed.
---
“Alright, ladies and gentlemen, let’s have our two beautiful brides and handsome grooms start off the last dance of the night!” The emcee bellowed into the microphone as cheers erupted in the dimness of the ballroom.
“I can’t wait till that’s us.” Raymond whispered as Michelle sighed contently, closing her eyes as she followed Raymond’s lead.
“As soon as your franchise opens, that’s us. Remember you promised your father the third franchise; don’t let your father down.” Michelle said as Raymond nodded.
“I won’t, because that would be letting you down too.” Raymond said softly as they enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere.
“Michelle?”
“Hmm?”
“I love you so much I would die for you if you wanted to moon.”
Michelle giggled and slapped Raymond’s shoulder. “You’re so corny. I love you so much I don’t want the moon, I just want you.” Michelle answered as he bent down to lean his forehead against hers.
---
“I abhor you.” Sharon sighed happily into Wallace’s shoulder as he chuckled.
“You ab-what?.” He tightened his hold around her waist and pulled her closer.
Sharon rolled her eyes. "Who would've thought you had such a limited vocabulary?"
"It means I hate you."
Wallace chuckled. "Oh believe me, I hate you too."
---
“I hope you won’t want to fly now that you’re holding my baby.” Kenneth pointed out as Tavia narrowed her eyes and scowled.
“Whatever gave you the idea I want to fly?” Tavia questioned curiously as she leaned back against his arms for a better look at her husband.
Kenneth blinked. Trust her to forget her drunken antics. “You want to fly when you’re drunk.”
“You say that like I really do fly when I’m drunk.”
He laughed. “Don’t worry, that won’t happen anytime soon because you’re pregnant and you’re not going anywhere near alcohol until the little squirt comes out.”
“Hmph.”
---
“Now that you’re married to me, you have to listen to my every word.” Leila said in triumph as Chris groaned softly.
“You mean now that I’m sold to you, you have every right to beat me to a pulp without me uttering a single word in defense.” Chris said as Leila laughed and pressed a kiss to his cheek.
“You make me sound like a monster.”
“You are one.”
“CHRIS LAI!”
“You’re my beautiful wife and I love you so much.”
“Much better.”
---
“Your shyness is so adorable.” Nancy said as she pressed her cheek against Bosco’s.
“Your boldness is adorable.” Bosco answered as Nancy giggled.
“I love you, Nancy.”
“Love you too, Bosco.”
---
“Hope my sister didn’t scare you too much.” Ella giggled as she remembered the expression he had when he was dancing with Nancy.
“Nah, anything for my honey. I love you too much, even if she was to threaten to slice my throat open and feed me to the dogs, I won’t ever leave you.” Ron said as Ella pretended to gag.
“Now you sweet talk as much as you eat food. Wait till I tell Nancy what you said about her.” Ella giggled as she watched the look of sheer horror mar her boyfriend’s handsome features.
“Just kidding, silly.” Ella whacked Ron on the back as he grinned.
“I love you.” The two said simultaneously after a slight pause.
---
“Baby?” Jessica’s soft voice brought a smile to Louis’s face.
“Yes?”
“I’m pregnant.”
“HOLY SHIT! YES! YES! YES!” Louis lifted his wife off the dance floor by her waist and spun her around.
Jessica laughed as she caught three pairs of curious eyes belonging to her nieces burn a hole into her back. “I love you so darn much, Jess.”
“The feeling is mutual.” Jessica responded. Louis groaned. His wife HAD to be so professional even when professing her love to him, eh?
Is there any sweeter a big finale can turn out when seven couples are happily in love eith each other, with two of the seven having just been married, one engaged, two on the way of motherhood, and three very, very happily in love?
The answer?
Nope.
