Changmin had picked up ‘Six’ and placed her onto a sit on the metal lab table in his room. He had taken his laptop for quick and easy documentation of his findings as he dismantled the drone. He turned his back to ‘Six’ as he set up his lab, not all to worried that she’d attempt to leave or kill him. It was fundamental fact that drones did not feel emotion, so the suggestion that she’d feel worried for her life and flee was a ridiculous one.
He peeked at her over his shoulder, to find her watching him. With a small smile creeping onto his face, Changmin pulled out his materials, laying out the metal tools side by side. He picked up an incision knife, but dropped it at the sudden calling of his name.
“Changmin sir,” called the drone, and he turned his head sharply to look at her. His face was coated with question, and she looked down. “What are…” she stopped, looking up at him with perplexity. “I mean, well… may I have permission to speak freely, Changmin sir?”
Changmin slowly put down the blade, turning around fully to face her. He had a curious look on his face as he nodded. Six gave him a grateful look before nodding politely.
“Well, see, I was listening earlier as you were talking – the four of you – and… You’re not… going to kill me, are you?”
Changmin stared at her. “It’s not killing you.”
Six squinted her eyes at him, “Death is when something ceases to exist. I don’t want to cease to exist.”
“But you’re a drone,” it was more like he was pleading with her; with her silence earlier, he had been certain she was a drone, but now she was displaying blatant respect for life. This wasn’t an aspect of a drone’s programming, unless Hero had been particular on that point, which Changmin highly doubted. Why create something with intention to destroy it, and then format it to resent that destruction? It was sadistic.
She frowned, “Yes, that’s what you said.” Her face fell completely, and she looked up at him again. “J told me I was a human, but maybe he only wanted me to feel human.”
Feeling… Changmin was suddenly interested. Pulled his swivel chair over and sat in front of her. “’J’?” he questioned, raising his eyebrows as she nodded. “Who is ‘J’?”
Six suddenly smiled, her cheeks tinting softly as she looked bashfully down at her feet. “J is… J… J is someone I like very much,” she admitted, “He came to talk to me while I was in the room – he brought me food and stayed with me to fight away the monsters while I slept.”
Changmin snatched a notebook off of his messy desk, flipping it over and grabbing a pen. “Monsters?”
Six frowned again, “The monsters of my past, he called them. The bad memories that I remember at night. J stays to protect me from them.”
Changmin continued to ask her questioned, writing them and her answers down as they spoke.
