Chapter 32

----

Hero cracked his knuckles, musing to himself in the way that all-powerful gang leaders did. Without really looking, he flipped over his card deck to analyze his crop, before he reached into his bag and tossed his bet into the middle of the table.

The wad of cash slowed to a standing, before it fell onto it’s side on the pile. Hero looked around the room, at the faces of the various mob bosses beneath him – JiYong, and his curious looking friend, Daesung, who was an optimist by nature. The peculiar gang boss of northern Kwang-do, refusing to be called anything other than Se7en – and the ever morbid Leeteuk, often accompanied by his large entourage but today alone.

“Twelve billion,” was all Hero said, indicating that the roll of bills amounted to that, and also that he was quite confident in his hand.

“Oppa,” the girl clinging to him cooed flirtatiously, batting her eyelashes. “You’re so cool!” Hero rolled his eyes in annoyance, but allowed her to cling regardless.

Hero stared at the others – more pointedly, JiYong – for a long time, before Daesung laughed heartily.

“We all know I don’t have that kind of money,” he joked, gesturing for one of the pretty escorts to come keep him company while he waited out this match. A busty brunette found herself sitting in his lap, feeding him fruit from a nearby platter.

JiYong leaned forward, placing his own roll of bills on the table. “I’ll match it,” he said, causing Se7en to wince.

“I’m out,” he said, placing cards down. “I have a full house but that doesn’t compete with whatever the heck you got.”

LeeTeuk nodded, “Same,” he admitted, dropping his cards to expose his full house. “Well, I’m out.”

“What about you?” Hero questioned, not breaking his stare with JiYong. “Wanna play?” JiYong didn’t flinch, tossing another wad on the table.

“I’ll raise you – seventeen,” he challenged. Hero smirked.

“Really? That’s it?” he mused. He snapped his fingers and pointed at the bag on the far table, “Nikki,” he spoke to the woman clinging to him, “grab that bag for me.”

The woman got up quickly to retrieve the bag, handing it to him. Hero looked inside the bag teasingly, before he shrugged. “Well since, we’re at it,” he said, tossing the bag in the center of the table. “Why don’t I just go all or nothing?”

Daesung jumped to look in the bag, rifling through it in wonder. “Woooooah, JiYong ah, this guys serious – look at this! All big bills, filled to the brim. Ah, I don’t know about this.”

JiYong, as if not fully believing it, stood to peak in the bag himself, and couldn’t hide the shock when he saw that the bag was, in fact, loaded. He looked at Hero, stone faced as ever, and dropped his card. “I’m out,” he said, and a curious courtesan flipped the cards over, revealing a straight flush. JiYong sat on the back on his chair, feet planted firmly on the base to watch as Hero collected his winnings. “You better have a royal flush, betting so high, you son of a bitch.”

Hero stopped, flipping through one of the rolls of bills he had won, before he shrugged and pushed his cards forward. Se7en, suddenly curious, grabbed the cards to look at them. He scoffed and tossed them back down, leaving the room in an angry storm. Daesung quickly gathered them together to look at them, shocked at what he saw there. JiYong stared at Hero, smirking as he shoved the last of the money into his bag, before he leaned over to peak at the cards.

Hero chuckled as he grabbed his bag and slung it over his shoulder, saluting the guys as he headed for the exit.

“I was bluffing.”
