Chapter 40

----

It was night.

The covers were skewed across the bed, tangled around long legs and arms. Groaning, the figure rolled in spot, hoping that, if he tried hard enough, sleep would come to him.

But sleep wasn’t even close to encompassing Jung Yunho, as his mind was running too fast to harness. It was madness inside his mind; it was night.

Groaning, Yunho literally rolled out of bed, finding himself on the floor, groggy and stressed. He rubbed the back of his head, staring at the journal that caused such a mental block. With much strain, he reached over and grabbed it off of the floor, flipping through the pages for a last minute glimmer of understanding, only to realize that was not coming to him anytime soon. Frustrated, Yunho pushed himself up off the ground, stuck the journal into his pocket, and headed to the kitchen to make himself a cup of coffee and sit in peace.

Only to find someone else there.

“Six?” Yunho was surprised. “What are you doing up?”

Six sat on the counter, staring down at her feet as she swung them to and fro. She didn’t look to him. “Thinking,” she answered, quietly.

Yunho, who had noticed a pot of coffee was sitting on the counter, freshly brewed, turned to Six. “About what?”

The small girl sighed, looking at the ceiling sadly. “I don’t remember,” she said. “I try to remember, but I can’t.”

Yunho nodded, jumping up onto the counter to sit beside her. “You know,” he murmured after a long silence. “Maybe it’s for the best – that you don’t remember, I mean.”

Six looked at him curiously. “What do you mean?”

Yunho sighed, lowering the cup from his lips to cradle it between his knees. “Just that – you don’t know what happened, you know? And maybe it’s for the better. Maybe there are bad things that happened to you, that are best for you to forget. Move on, start anew.”

“But J,” she replied gloomily.

Yunho frowned, “Do you miss J?”

“I don’t remember J,” she answered simply. “I can’t miss something I don’t remember.”

Yunho seemed to think about this, before he reached into his pocket, withdrawing the journal. He stared at it, pursing his lips.

“What’s that, Yunho sir?” Six asked, though she felt she shouldn’t.

“It’s…” Yunho trailed, staring at the journal intently. He sighed. “It’s yours.”

“It’s mine?” Six barely believed it.

“Yeah,” he affirmed. “You wrote it before – it’s your memories.”

“My memories?”

“Your memories.”

Six bit onto her lip, carefully examining the journal in his hands. “May I read it?” she asked. Yunho turned his head, just slightly, in her direction. After much thought, he handed the journal to Six, before jumping off of the counter and depositing his mug in the sink.

He heard her ‘thank you’ as he left to his room, but he felt it better to pretend he hadn’t.
