Chapter 43

----

It was a somewhat usual morning, though one in the household of Jung Yunho would admit that getting use to the presence of a girl was difficult. No walking around naked for YooChun, no porn in the lab room for Changmin, no romance novels in the living room for Yunho, and especially none of those kinky RP games for Junsu. They were slowly adapting, though, to the new and necessary changes.

The group was sitting in the living room, all enjoying an exceptionally salty breakfast – courtesy of Six and her first attempt at cooking – and watching immature morning cartoons. The atmosphere was somewhat relaxed, and Junsu was telling Six a joke she wasn’t quite adapted enough to understand. They had all taken turns trying to explain this to Junsu, but he had yet to understand it.

So it goes without saying that when the door slammed opened and in came hoards of gun-wielding soldiers, everyone was mildly surprised. But they recovered quickly, springing into action and pulling out their handguns (all but Changmin, who quickly grabbed Six and pulled her behind them.) They aimed at the guards, cocking their guns, waiting for explanation. It didn’t take long for the black leather shoes to immerge from the crowd.

“Well well well,” Hero drawled lazily, toying with his own gun as if it was a toy. “I should have expected it, really, I should have.”

The group tensed, but Six seemed to relaxed. She knew that voice. She knew that voice!

“J!” she exclaimed, pushing out of Changmin’s grasp and rushing towards the man. Her arms were around him and he held her tightly, pressing his cheek against her forehead and sending a wicked smirk to the group of Roog’s.

They stared in disbelief, slowing registering what was going on. Hero rose his hand to press it to the back of Six’s head, and the look on his face was pure evil.

“What?” Junsu asked, horribly lost. His arms hand dropped to his side, lowering the group’s defenses, but no one noticed.

And as soon as Six was in Hero’s grasp, the hoards of guards took advantage of the shock that settled in the room and moved. They swarmed around the four men, disarming them within seconds, blocking Hero from their site.

“Hey babygirl,” Hero spoke softly, holding her out a small distance to skim his eyes over her. He brushed his fingers over her forehead, smiling gently. His lips replaced his fingers on her face within seconds. “I missed you,” he told her.

Six looked up at him and smiled back, about to speak when she was pulled back firmly by another hand.

“Stay away from him, Six,” Yunho snapped, pushing her behind him. Before any of the guards could react, the nozzle of his gun was pressed firmly against Hero’s temple. “He’s lying to you.”

Hero’s smug look cracked, just slightly.

“What are you talking about? Yunho sir! It’s okay! I remember now – I remember!” She turned to Changmin, her eyes wide, “See, Changmin! Don’t feel bad anymore – I remember!”

Yunho grunted, pushing Hero’s head back with his gun. “Stop it – It’s fine! It’s just J!” she yelled, grabbing his arm and pulling him, in vain. “Don’t hurt him! It’s only J! It’s only”- and that was when Six looked around the room, noticing the deadly objects clutched in each persons hand. She let out a desperate cry. “Why do you have a gun?! Why do you all have guns?!”

“Hero,” Junsu spoke, as Changmin wrapped his arms protectively around Six. “Get out of here, now.”

She looked around in vain – Hero?! But Hero wasn’t here!

And then when J responded, her eyes widened, and she stared at him in a newly discovered horror. He couldn’t be…

“Now you’ll understand, U Know, that I just can’t leave without E-Six.” Her head shook. He sounded so professional – so unlike himself. E-Six? Was she E-Six? Her lips parted and she wanted to scream; no. She was human. They said she was human. She can’t be… He can’t be…

Experiment.

Hero.

Robot.

Evil.

YooChun growled, “Why? So you can do shit to her?! Fuck, you had her fooled! Had us fooled! She told us all about ‘J’, and it was just you acting! You make me sick!”

Experiment. Hero.

Robot.

Evil.

For a millisecond, Hero looked almost alarmed. But that was only a millisecond, a flash in his eyes, for he was as calm and composed as always when he spoke once more. “I would appreciate it if you just gave her to me and skipped the drama.”

Experiment. Hero. Robot.

Evil.

“Fuck no,” Changmin cussed, holding Six tighter. He felt her quivering in his arms.

Experiment. Hero. Robot. Evil.

“Let her decide, then,” Hero spoke calmly; confidently. She would come to him, he knew. She had no reason to doubt him – she loved him, trusted him. She would come. He turned his head to her and smiled softly, holding out his arms and beckoning her forward. “Come on, love,” he cooed.

Experiment. Hero. Robot. Evil.
Experiment. Hero. Robot. Evil.
Experiment. Hero. Robot. Evil…

E-Six.

Six stood planted in spot. Her mouth was just barely opened – her cheeks tainted an overwhelmed pink. She pressed her lips together, wetted them with her tongue, and tears began to fill her eyes. Hero’s confidence fell drastically at that look.

“Baby,” he tried again, forcing his softest, warmest smile. “Come on.”

Changmin drew her back, slightly, and YooChun put an arm around her as well. They were all defense; Hero did not like it.

Experiment. Junsu. Hero. E. Beauty. Robot. Evil. Hero. Roogs. Boa. Experiment. Fraud. Hero. J. Robot. Six. Evil. Filth. Guns. Dats. Yunho. Experiment. Six. Hero. Robot. Changmin. Villain. Evil. Experiment. Hero. YooChun. Robot. Evil. E-Six.

Thoughts came as a large gate opened in her mind; each idea, each well constructed, near-fantasy memory, being torn to a realistic ruin. She looked around the room with unseeing eyes, as nausea poured up and down her throat, leading and following her stomach as it contracted with each breath. And suddenly, all the stray thoughts gathered into one solid, painful thought. Did that mean she wasn’t human?

Did that mean she wasn’t human?

The thought terrified her.

Six looked at J in a brand new light. Her J. Her nice, sweet, humanitarian J. Was he lying? Or were her new friends? She didn’t understand it; all the guns and all the violence.

Did that mean she wasn’t human?

This is what she wanted to ask. This. She wanted to demand answers, to cry, to yell. But what if she wasn’t? She almost didn’t want to know.

“Are you Hero?” It couldn’t be, not her J. Not her loving J.

Hero looked incredibly uncomfortable. His eyes flicked between her and the men she was standing with, and she could see the lie blooming. Was he going to lie? Was he going to say no? Or would he admit the truth and hope she would not have heard of him?

And then he looked at her, painfully, and gave a small, short nod. This was not he same man she knew. Her heart broke as he nodded to her, and she blinked back her tears of disappointment. “You did all those horrible things,” she whispered.

But then something in his eyes changed, and the nice J she knew died. He impatiently gestured for her to come to him. “Come on, love,” he said nice words in an irate tone. She sniffed, looking over the scene with bleary eyes.

What if she said ‘no’?

What would happen to her new friends?

If she weren’t human…

Would they still be her friends?

No, something inside her said. No, she would be dead.

But that didn’t matter. Looking over the guns of the men surrounding them, she knew they would die if she did not go. Hesitantly, she wiggled out of Changmin’s grasp. She turned to look at them sadly, and shook her head once. She hoped she could convey her silent ‘sorry’, as she brushed passed Yunho and moved into the arms of Hero.

He smiled down at her, patting her head softly. “Good girl,” he murmured, before looking up at his men. He turned his attention back to Six, who was tearily looking away from him, before he smirked up at Yunho. “You’re compliance is appreciated,” he paused, placing a hand on Six’s head. “But I will be back.”

He nudged his head to the door; giving out a barely audible, ‘Move out.’

They trudged out without second thought, guns pointed to the floor.
