E-SIX

Chapter 50

----

Six sat in stone-cold silence, eyes warily watching the men in white coats and they checked over her, poking and prodding at her sides, her legs, the back of her head and neck – she flinched with each touch, pulling away from their cold, professional touch each time. It had taken Hero hours to subdue her enough to even bring her near the room, but he couldn’t blame her, for, if he had thought to not tell her, she wouldn’t have struggled. But it was no use once she knew what was waiting for her beyond those doors – she hated doctors, always had, always would.

Three men later, Six was sedated and sitting on a cool practitioners table, looking around at the men in the room warily. Pointedly. She barely noticed Hero standing in the doorway, watching – and if she did, it was only for the briefest of moments, just long enough for her to avert her eyes in disgust. How could he bring her here? He knew just how she felt about it!

It was simply further proof that he didn’t care in the slightest about her, Six realized, staring at the old doctor with contempt. She didn’t understand why HE had brought her here, for a check up with a HUMAN doctor, no less.

HUMAN.

The word burned into her mind, searing a scar-tissue pattern into her grey matter. They were HUMAN, them – the doctors, Hero, Changmin…

And she was not.

And then the doctor turned away from her without speaking, walked to the door and caught Hero by the shoulder. He spoke to him in a hushed voice, occasionally glancing over at her, sitting vulnerably on the table, before he’d cut his eyes back to Hero. Hero nodded, once, before the doctor left, and he stood there, dominating, waiting for Six to put on her shoes.

She didn’t bother, fumbling to her feet and waiting for him to lead her out. Hero gestured to her shoes. “Well,” he said, pointing again when Six looked at him confusedly. She looked down at them, momentarily, before she ‘oh’d and picked them up. Her feet remained bare.

But Hero didn’t say much about it, his eyes rolling as he grasped her hand and tugged her out of the room.
