Chapter 19

16. Seoul National Hospital, October 2007, Cloudy

"Chae Yeon?" A bulky man with a high pitched voice walked into the suite. Behind him were two other much smaller sized men. One was dressed in a black suit carrying a brief case and the other wore a vest and carried a camera. The three men walked briskly into the suite, in search of the object they were here to document. The suite had a tense feeling to it, but all they saw was a patient hugging onto a pillow and the doctor stirring and playing with her lunch.

"Oh you must be her doctor. I'm her fiancé" Kim Jong Kook said proudly to Seung Gi. Suddenly, the man with the camera started taking pictures. The flash from his camera made Chae Yeon jump in shock.

"Hey, no cameras in here." Seung Gi pushed the camera away, not letting him take anymore pictures of Chae Yeon.

"Doctor Chee, these pictures are very important for my publicity." Kim Jong Kook said to Seung Gi. He had mistaken Seung Gi as Doctor Chee.

"I am her doctor and I am telling you that I won't allow any of such disturbances to my patient. You can take pictures when she gets better. Not now" Seung Gi said sternly. He secretly glanced at Chae Yeon to make sure she was alright.

"Fine. Mike, we will just take pictures outside the ward later. Director Lee will be arriving in about an hour's time. Rest assure your magazine will get exclusive coverage to our wedding" Kim Jong Kook looked at Chae Yeon and then at his watch. He didn't even ask how she was. All he knew was that the wedding was delayed to a whole month later because she got admitted for depression. And all he was concern about was the reporter that was beside him. Nothing must go wrong. He was supposed to pretend to be concern and show what a loving boyfriend he was.

"I would like to rest. Please get out" Chae Yeon said. The man who caused her Nanny to die. She hated this man to the core, and she knew Seung Gi wasn't at all pleased with him being here.

"Weren't you eating your lunch?" Kim Jong Kook pretended to be concern.

"I have no appetite. I want to rest" Chae Yeon said as she pulled the blanket over her head.

"You look like a stick. I like my woman with curves. Finish up your meal" Kim Jong Kook starred at the tray of food and said fiercely to her. Lee Chae Yeon was the only woman who could make him so mad. Everything she does irritates him. If it weren't for the deals behind this marriage, he would much rather marry a mannequin that this stubborn Princess.

Seung Gi unhappily watched the evil man shout at his woman. But before he could react to it, Chae Yeon had picked up the tray of mashed food and threw it at Kim Jong Kook.

"I said I won't eat it." She said it haughtily. The extremely gross mixture of mashed vegetables and meat had created a pattern on Kim Jong Kook's shirt.

"You have a horrible temper" he glared at her in his soiled shirt. He was pissed, but Lee Chae Yeon was a woman he cannot afford to offend. The media were tight on their relationship and he still needed the Lee Transports network to assist him in his smuggling business.

"Look what you did to my Armani shirt!" He angrily complained, but he could not hit her back. The reporter was watching their every move.

"Well you'll have to leave with it don't you? You don't have a choice." Chae Yeon stubbornly refused to tone down. She picked up the empty water bottle and threw it at the cameraman. With her other hand, she pushed the trolley table away, hitting the man in black suit.

"Get out! All of you!" She screamed as she grabbed onto a magazine and threw it at Kim Jong Kook again, exhausting her weak body.

Seung Gi was secretly laughing at how cute she was when suddenly a pillow came flying at him. He caught it in shock and looked up at her.

"You too!" Chae Yeon said as he caught her soft fluffy pillow.

"Lets get out of here Dr Chee, she will cool down in a while." Kim Jong Kook said with an irritable tone, signaling for his assistant and the reporter to follow suit.

"Out!" Chae Yeon screamed. This time, a hard cover book came flying at Kim Jong Kook.

Chae Yeon pulled the blanket over her head again as the four men walked out of her suite. Under the covers, her heart was beating so fast. She wondered why she had to resort to doing this. She never used to be in such a bad mood. And to make things worse, she is having some serious craving for fried chicken. She pulled the blanket away from her head as she felt her tummy rumble. She was very hungry but even the awful mixture of food was on the floor. Unhappy with how she is feeling, she tried to get off the bed when Seung Gi entered her room again.

"Nuna is so naughty" He walked towards the bed and shook his head, pretending to disapprove of what she did earlier. The cleaners were standing outside the suite ready to clean up as Seung Gi prepared to take her into the X ray room. He stood beside the bed and pulled out the tubes of liquid running into her body. He didn't have any expression on his face as he needed to concentrate on removing the needles, but Chae Yeon thought he was being angry with her. She obediently kept still for him to do his work, watching how handsome he looks when he concentrates. Seung Gi placed the tubes on the bed and carried her up in his arms.

"Seung Gi" Chae Yeon tried to support herself by holding on to his shoulders but she realized Seung Gi was right, she was too weak to even get off the bed. All she could do was to let him carry her.

"Hmm?" Seung Gi carried her higher so that her face was just beside his. He brought her out of the suite and into another room filled with machines.

"Did my pillow hurt you?" She playfully used her fingers to touch his face

"How can a pillow hurt anyone? How can my beloved hurt anyone?" Seung Gi placed her on one of the large machines and kissed her head.

"It won't be long. I've told the kitchen to make some tofu soup for you. After this, the therapist will take you back to the room. Promise me you will finish up the soup?" Seung Gi looked at her pale cheeks and arranged her hair neatly, putting on a protective hat for her head.

"Where are you going?" Chae Yeon pulled onto his pants, not letting him leave her.

"Hiding in my office. That dumb Minister might not recognize me but your parents do. They were at the lobby earlier." Seung Gi hugged her gently and moved away.

"Seung Gi" Chae Yeon called again. He turned around and gave her a smile, waiting to hear her request.

"I will finish up the soup. No matter how bad it looks I will eat it. When I am fit to walk on my own, you will take me away. Right?" She asked

"Even if you can't walk on your own, I will carry you. To take you away, I will do anything. Don't worry my love. Just concentrate on getting well" Seung Gi walked back towards her again and kissed her cheeks.

Lee Seung Gi didn't have an easy time with this patient Lee Chae Yeon. He kept two medical records for her. The first one contained fictitious syndromes to keep her hospitalized, and the second record contained detailed tracking of her recovery. She was getting stronger and stronger each day, but to the rest of Seoul, Lee Chae Yeon was diagnosed with a rare disease.

" Omma said I have a glow on my face" Chae Yeon told Seung Gi as he picked out the red coloured pills from the rest of the tablets.

It was 11pm on a Thursday evening. Visiting hours were over and all that's left in the private wards were the few patients, a few nurses, and the newly appointed permanent night duty Doctor Lee.

"Let's see, the blush on your face, did that come from the cherries you've eaten this morning?" Seung Gi counted the remaining pills on the plate. Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin B complex, Iron, and Calcium. He took her fist which was clenched together and tried to open it.

"I'll eat them if you can get them into my hands" Chae Yeon giggled as Seung Gi pretended to have a difficult time opening her little fist.

"I took 6 pills out, you have 6 left. 50% cut. Won't you eat them for me?" He poured her a glass of water and gave it to her. He noticed that she had put on the necklace he gave her. It wasn't around her neck during her coma. But she has been wearing it as promised for the past few days.

"But the other 6 were your fake pills." Chae Yeon laughed as she obediently took the glass and the vitamins. She had enough fun with Seung Gi for the night. Eating pills weren't that difficult, especially if it is from her Seung Gi.

"Soon you won't have to pretend to be sick anymore alright?" Seung Gi sat beside her on the bed and pulled the blanket to cover her legs. She was hiding something under the blanket, something that she had not let him see for the past few days. He looked at this lovely Nuna. He heard from the nurses that Chae Yeon threw horrible tantrums in the day, especially to her father and Kim Jong Kook. The stories about this spoilt Princess spread around the whole hospital, and Seung Gi took each story as an entertainment. Because when he is around at night, this so called devil was nothing but a darling. She was the sweetest and the kindest angel he ever set eyes on.

And her mother was right, she does have a glow on her face. And because of that glow she has, he found that she looks even prettier than before.

"What did you break today?" He causally asked her as he tried to peep at the thing she was hiding beside her.

"I didn't break anything." She said innocently to him.

"I heard you threw a level 9 tantrum earlier. Who made my precious so mad?"

"They refuse to buy grilled squid for me." Chae Yeon honestly replied. She has been having weird food cravings and if she wasn't satisfied with them, she became very moody.

Seung Gi pretended as though it was not his instructions to forbid her to have seafood, and just nodded along as though her servants were in the wrong, sympathizing with her.

"Why do you have such strong cravings lately? You never used to be like that" He looked at her and smiled. He loved her so much, and nothing she does ever makes him mad. Even wanting to eat squid, which would be so bad for her wound.

"Maybe it's because I'm recovering well?" She lay down on the bed and hid her wool ball and knitting needles. She was knitting a sweater for Seung Gi and it was meant to be a secret.

"Having appetite is a good thing" Seung Gi bent over and gave her a kiss, still unsuccessful in finding out the hidden object.

Chae Yeon playfully hugged onto Seung Gi, making him fall on top of her on the bed.

"You can't go anywhere now" She giggled at his shocked expression as she locked her arms around him, taking ownership of her man.

"Then I'll just stay here, glued to you like a leech" He sucked on her neck and made her giggle with his tickles, but at the same time careful not to crush her with his body weight.

"I like Seung Gi the leech" Chae Yeon happily said.

"My Love, do you remember Nami Island?" Seung Gi suddenly asked.

"I do. I love that island" Chae Yeon smiled and recalled the time they were there, how Seung Gi accompanied her and took her around that foreign island.

"Let's go there on Saturday" He said seriously and looked into her eyes.

"This Saturday?" Chae Yeon hid her wool ball and needles deeper into the blanket and looked at Seung Gi

"Lets go to Nami Island and never come back to Seoul. Nuna, let's run away"

The two in love looked into each other's eyes. Saturday, would be the day they leave this place.

She would be leaving behind the riches of the high society, the comfort of her palace like home, her maids and servants, and her life as a Princess.

He would be leaving behind his career, the years of studying medicine, his whole future.

But all these didn't matter, because they will start a new life, with each other. They will live their dream, of being together.

The sky was dark; it was almost the end of the lunar month. The tiny crescent moon gave little light to the hospital. All but one bright star was looking upon the hospital building, smiling at the pair of forbidden lovers.
