Chapter 6

The Truth Reveals Itself

The following morning, Jiyeon had dropped the kids

off at preschool and was back at the house, cleaning up

a little, but taking it easy because of the baby. She

walked into her closet and pulled out the box of letters

from her shelf again, and set it down on the table in

her spacious closet. She sat down and started sorting

through the letters and pulled out another letter from

JaeJin. She started reading it, as she remembered how

they ended their relationship. But she still didn't

know why he had left so suddenly.

Jiyeon,
I can’t really write for very long now, but I think this is the best way to tell you that I have to leave Korea. And I can’t explain to you why. I’m really sorry but I really do care for you and hope you’ll find someone else who’ll be there for you. Someone who’ll do a better job than I can. Take care.
-JaeJin

Jiyeon still didn't understand why he left so

suddenly, but shrugged it off. She put the letter back

into the box, along with the others, and then placed it

back in her shelf, and then she left the master bedroom,

and grabbed the car keys, driving to the cleaners to

pick up some dry cleaning. She parked her car in front

of the store, and got out, locking it, when she saw JaeJin

come out, holding a suit that had been pressed. She

was surprised to see him the second time that week.

"Oh, oppa." She said, surprised. "Jiyeon." He said.

They stopped to chat in front of the cleaners. "Hey

what are you doing here?" He asked. "Oh, just getting

some dry cleaning, you know." Jiyeon said. JaeJin nodded.

She don't know why it came up, but she just had to

ask him. "Hey oppa, I know this was a long time ago, but

why did you have to leave all of a sudden?" She asked him.

He looked surprised, but then sighed. "Well, now that

we're adults, I guess I have to fess up. I, I didn't

leave Korea." He told her. Jiyeon's eyes widened in

disbelief. "Mwoh?" She said. "I just said that because

I didn't want to actually have to tell you, that I wanted

to break up. I'm sorry." He admitted. She looked at him,

not really wanting to believe that she had heard him

right. "So, you didn't leave Korea?" She said, still in

shock. He shook his head. "So, you just did that because

you didn't want to have to go through the trouble of

breaking up with me?" She said. He nodded. She let out

a long sigh. "Do you have any idea how much I cr-- AISH.

Nevermind." She stopped herself and exhaled slowly then

started talking more calmly this time. "I really don't

understand why you just couldn't tell me oppa, but it's

okay. I, I forgive you." She said. "Jiyeon ah." He said,

pleading. She gave him a formal smile. "It's okay." She

said, then went inside the dry cleaners and got her

dry cleaning, and when she went out, he was gone.

"Figures." She thought, then drove to pick the kids up

from school. "Omma!" JiJin and Yeonki said as they

happily ran to her from waiting outside of their preschool,

she smiled hugggin them tightly, and waved goodbye to

their teacher, thanking her, then drove back home.

When they got home, she fixed them a snack, then they

went to their rooms afterwards. She was still upset over

what JaeJin had revealed to her. "Hey. This was almost

ten years ago. I have Onew now, and two great kids,

and another one on the way." She thought, feeling lucky

again. Then something about the word 'lucky' triggered her

memory. She went into the master bedroom, and walked into

the master closet, and pulled out the box of all her

wedding things, copies of the invitations, the program,

the wedding album and wedding ceremony and reception

DVD, until she finally found it, a letter from Onew four

years ago, and she opened it, and started reading it.

Jiyeon,

In just a few hours, we will be saying our vows at Sarang Church. I wanted to write this letter to you, as a way of expressing my vows, before the ceremony. Like I have said so many times, “I love you more. And don’t fight me on this.” I don’t really mean to say that I actually think the love I have for you is greater than the love you have for me. What I mean is that I love you so much more than you can even imagine. I guess some would call it fate that I happened to catch you when you fell off the ladder that one day, three years ago. But I would rather use the term, lucky. I was lucky enough to be there, lucky enough to catch you, lucky enough that you fell for me too. To me, you really are the most important chapter in my life. And I am also lucky enough that you agreed to be part of my story. Now this, is our love story jagiya. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I love you, and I am a lucky man to have you in my life, and pretty soon, as my wife.
And I’m so excited for tomorrow that I can barely sleep so I wrote this for you. With all my love, I will cherish you, now and forevermore, I will be the one to love you unconditionally.
Love,
Onew

Tears slid down her face, as she remembered the

sweet, sweet words he had written. Lucky. He was so right.

What more could she possibly ask for? She smiled, feeling

better, and held the letter close to her heart. Then

placed it back in the box, putting it back in the shelf.

She then placed her hand over her stomach. "Eegi ah,

I wish you just as much love as I have experienced when

you grow up." She said to her baby. Then left the room,

going into the kitchen and starting on dinner.
