Chapter 9

In Actuality

"Thanks for the ride. I'll see you later," said Tavia, turning to head towards the door. However, Ron grabbed her arm, pulling her to him. To her suprise, he placed a deep kiss on her lips. After a moment, she broke away a bit breathless from the unexpected event. "I have to go, I'll meet you for lunch." She disappeared through the swinging doors.

Smiling to himself, Ron went next door and took a seat at his desk.

"What happened? How did it happen? And when did it happen!? I knew you were waiting for her yesterday night! You were, weren't you!?" demanded a voice. Ron looked up to see Leila right in his face. He jerked back, not expecting her to be there.

"None of your business," he said after composing himself.

"Oh come on! We're partners afterall! I think I have a right to know about my partner's future wife. What do I call her then? Sister-in-law?" continued Leila.

Ron threw a few folders in her direction. "Stop being nosy and get to work!"

Seeing that at least he was warming up to her a bit and not ignoring her, Leila nodded. "Fine, I'll be quiet. Seeing you in such a good mood gives me the creeps anyways. I don't want to know so ha!" Ron shook his head at her reply and flipped through the pages of a binder.

In the next room, Tavia tried to concentrate on what she was reading but the continuous snickers bothered her. She glared at Raymond sitting across from her who continued to chuckle. She finally jumped up from her seat, causing her rolling desk chair to slide back into a shelf with a bang. She slammed a hand onto the table and pointed at him. "That's it! What are you laughing at?!"

Ray shook his head wildly denying it. "Nothing," he answered through fits of laughter. She gave him a threatening look. He tried to compose himself and took a breath. "Ok, ok I'll tell you." Tavia replied with a look which asked 'Well?' "Seeing you being all mushy and smiling while you work is funny. You should have seen the look on your face!" he explained.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Tavia dismissed the question.

"Yeah, well you know yourself what's going on," replied Raymond before being interrupted with his cellphone ringing. He picked it up, "Hello? What!? How did this happen!?" Tavia listened intently although pretending to be doing work. "I'll be right there!" he exclaimed before grabbing his stuff and running towards the door.

"Where are you going!?" asked Tavia.

"To the hospital!" he answered.

"I'll drive you," she offered. "It's faster." Raymond nodded.

x.........................x
"When you said drive, I thought you meant a car." Raymond pointed out as they walked down a hallway of the hospital. Tavia shrugged.

"It's not like you don't know I ride a motorcycle," she said nonchalantly, "Why are we here again?"

"You offered to DRIVE me. I'm here because my girlfriend called me," he replied.

"What for?" asked Tavia, thinking she might uncover some information.

Ray gave her a questioning look. "You're being awfully caring, it's not like you." He brushed off the topic as they approached the reception desk. "Nurse, can you check where Bernice Liu is? I'm her boyfriend." The woman in the white uniform clicked a few keys and said that she was still with the doctor at station three. He thanked her and sat down in one of the plastic chairs of the waiting room.

Tavia took a seat next to him. "So, how is she like?"

"How is who like?" he asked, oblivious to what she was talking about.

"Your girlfriend," she replied, getting a bit irritated that he wasn't even paying attention. There was no way she can find out if Eddie Kwan had any connection to Bosco's murder at this rate. She was hoping to ask about Raymond's girlfriend, Bernice, and ease into the subject of his stepfather. Just then, one of the curtains drew aside and out stepped the doctor.

"How is the patient?" demanded Raymond, running up to him.

"She's fine, nothing major. She just sprained her ankle and will be in a cast and crutches for a month or so," explained the doctor.

"Thanks." Bernice then hobbled out with her arms around a pair of crutches.

"Raymond! You came!" she exclaimed happily, trying to make her way towards him.

"Be careful," he warned, "Oh! Bernice, this is Tavia, my partner. Bernice, Tavia, Tavia Bernice." He introduced the two as they both acknowledged one another.

"Excuse me but some paperwork has to be filled out for Miss Liu." the nurse standing beside Bernice piped up.

"Ok, I'll be right back," announced Raymond who left with the nurse.

Tavia observed as Bernice watched Raymond walk away. She examined her, she seemed way too good for that guy. She was pretty and showed no signs of having any mental problems so far.

"Do you want to sit?" asked Tavia in a considerate voice.

Bernice nodded and smiled. "Thanks, you're such a nice person," she acknowledged as she sat down. Tavia just gave her a polite 'thank you,' fearing she would start laughing at how gullible Bernice was. She was only being nice to her cause she needed something from her.

"Raymond talks about you all the time," commented Tavia, although he only brought his girlfriend up once to her.

"Really?" asked Bernice, brightening up a bit at the fact. "He never mentioned you before."

Choosing to ignore what was just said, Tavia pressed on to continue her questioning. "Yeah, you two have been going out for a long time haven't you?"

"Yeah, I'm expecting a ring anytime soon," giggled Bernice, looking at her hand.

"That's great," exclaimed Tavia, trying her best to be enthustiastic even though she didn't care. "I'm sure it'll be soon. If not, I'm sure your parents or Raymond's will start pressuring him to do it soon."

"I hope so! Well, I kind of lost my parents when I was young. They were killed in a car accident, so it's just me and my aunt. She brings it up alot but Raymond never agrees or anything. Raymond's parents, I think they like me but I guess they think it's our decision and not theirs. I think Eddie likes me but for some reason Angie doesn't..." she left the sentence to trail off.

"Angie?"

"Yeah, Raymond's mom." Before Tavia could ask anything else, Raymond himself came back, cutting them short.

"Ready to go?" he asked. They got up from their seats to show that they were. He then turned to Tavia, "Uh, we won't be able to fit on your motorcycle so we'll get a taxi. Thanks for the ride though."

"Sure," she replied and watched as they walked off in the opposite direction. She sighed at the time she had wasted then remembered she was supposed to meet Ron for lunch. She rushed out of the building in a hurry but bumped into a man on the way there. There was something odd about him but she didn't bother to find out what and left.

"Just cause you kissed her doesn't make your relationship official," said Leila, over her plate of rice with scrambled eggs, tomato, and beef.

Ron poked at his lunch. "Why don't you mind your own business before you try to help me?"

"Hmph! You have no idea how many guys are lining up to date me!" she corrected.

"Oh yeah?" he asked skeptically, "Are they all blind?"

"You know what? I decided to be nice and have lunch with you and here you are! Saying all this stuff about me!" she retorted. Just then, a guy came up to her.

"H-hi," he stuttered, holding a bouquet of flowers, "My name is-"

"OH are those for ME?" Leila cut in pointing at the roses. She then gave a triumphant look over at Ron. "Thank you!" she took the flowers from the guy.

"S-s-so I was wondering if you were uh...busy...yesterday. I-I mean tonight," the guy said in a shaky voice.

"Hm...tonight? Yeah, I am. How about you get back to me some other time and we'll see ok?" Leila answered her own question without waiting for him to say anything, "Ok! Great! Bye!" she dismissed him. However, he seemed to have gotten the wrong message that she might be available sometime and walked off happily. "Well HE wasn't blind was he?" she said to Ron, knowing all well what the answer was. He just answered her with a scoff and returned to poking his food.

Tavia sat muttering to herself. She had come back at two-something and Eddie was there when she had entered the office. He was probably purposely there so he would catch her coming back in. It was all Raymond's fault since he had to go check on his girlfriend. He wouldn't listen to her explanation and now she was stuck here. It was six and she was starting to get hungry. Ron was nowhere to be seen after she had come back and same thing with Raymond. It was his fault she was here in the first place and he didn't even bother coming back to explain to his stepfather.

"Excuse me, but did somebody order take out?" asked a voice.

"No, wrong place," replied Tavia, not bothering to look up. A white plastic bag was set in front of her. Looking up, she found Raymond there. "Where did you go? I came back and your step-father said that I left work. I told him to ask you but then he's making me stay here! Well, he said he'll be back at seven," she paused, eyeing the bag, "You think bringing me food will make up for this?" she questioned.

"No. I'll stay with you here till eight o'clock and look through the files. Then, I'll treat you to dinner," he said, knowing that she would agree.

"Fine. Here, help me look through these," she handed him a few folders.

Damien slowly trudged to the door as the doorbell rang a few times more. He decided to take his time to let the persno wait a bit longer for annoying him at the middle of the night. It was obviously not Tavia since she had keys. Looking through the peephole, he was suprised to see Ron. He opened the door.

"Ron? What brings you here?" he asked.

"Nothing, I was just wondering if Tavia was here," he answered straightfowardly.

"No, she's not back yet. Why don't you come in?" offered Damien. Ron stepped in and he made him welcome. "So, what are you looking for her for?"

"It's nothing really. I was supposed to meet her today and she hadn't showed up. I tried calling her but her cellphone is off. I was worried something might have happened so I stopped by," explained Ron.

Damien nodded with an understanding smile on his face. "Ah, I see. Bosco definately didn't make the mistake of having you as a friend. You're helping him look after Tavia. I don't have to worry now with you being with her everyday."

"Actually, I'm not only looking at for her because she was Bosco's girlfriend..." began Ron which caused Damien to look up quizzically.

Oh gosh, long chapter because of so much dialogue. This must be the chapter with the most dialogue I have ever written. I know I say that alot but really, this was just like talking, talking, and more talking. Looking at it, it's just line after line of it. It kinda irritates me lol. Oh well, an update is an update. Better than nothing? -_-' Ah, really bad chapter. One of the worst I have ever written...so much dialogue that it bothers me lol.
