It was after several days when Xiao You finally decided to call on Shan Cai. She felt guilty for not telling her best friend that she was already in Taiwan, but it couldn’t be helped. She had been too busy helping Lei set up the restaurant anyway. She had asked Shan Cai to meet her at the dango shop where they both used to work. It hasn’t changed much so Xiao You felt quite comfortable. She was about to order when she spotted her friend waddling towards her.
“Shan Cai” she called out , noting the advance state of her friend’s pregnancy.
“Xiao You?” Shan Cai couldn’t believe her eyes. Her friend was really back in Taiwan!
The two girls hugged just before they both settled down on their respective seats.
“How are you?” both of them asked at the same time.
Xiao You laughed. She really missed Shan Cai. “I’m good. When are you due?” she asked.
“Any day now.” Shan Cai answered.
“I’m surprised Daoming Si allowed you to go out.” Xiao You commented.
“I didn’t tell him.” Shan Cai whispered. “Gosh Xiao You, you look so sexy now.” She teased her friend.
“You too.” Xiao You replied and both of them laughed at her obvious lie.
“So how long are you staying?”
“For good.” Xiao You answered. “I’ll be managing the restaurant that Lei is opening at the end of this month.”
“Lei? I didn’t know he was opening a restaurant.” Shan Cai was surprised.
“He is.” Xiao You waited for Shan Cai to ask more questions.
“How did you two meet up again?”
“We’ve kept in touch all these years. He knew I was taking up HRM in college so when he decided to open up a restaurant, he asked me to manage it for him. I agreed. So here I am.”
“I can’t believe Lei has been keeping it a secret all this time. How come you never told me?”
“Just never thought of it I guess. Besides, I thought you all knew because Lei comes here pretty regularly to meet with the four of you.”
“Well, Ah Si and I were abroad for most of the time that you were away so I guess it never occurred to him to tell us. Does Ximen and Mei Zhou know?”
“I never asked.” Xiao You replied, avoiding Shan Cai’s probing gaze.
Shan Cai looked like she was about to ask something else but changed her mind. “So where are you staying?”
“With Lei.” Xiao You answered. She was looking at the menu so she failed to notice a speculative look replace the incredulous expression on Shan Cai’s face.
“Lei and Xiao You?” Shan Cai thought. “Very interesting.”

Daoming residence.
“Ah Si, has Lei told you anything about opening a restaurant here in Taiwan?” Shan Cai asked her husband as they both prepared for bed.
“He is?” Ah Si was preoccupied with the papers before him.
“Well, he is.” She told him
“Hey, how do you know?” Ah Si asked, looking up from his work.
“Xiao You told me this afternoon.” Shan Cai ignored the hint of jealousy in Ah Si’s voice.
“Xiao You?” Ah Si’s voice had risen in surprise. “How did she know? And when did she return?”
“Well, apparently, Xiao You and Lei had kept in touch all this time.” Shan Cai wasn’t looking at her husband when she added “She’s actually staying at his house now."
"She is?"
"I know. I was really surprised too. I couldn’t believe it. Lei and Xiao You? I wonder how Ximen would feel about the whole thing.” Shan Cai was unaware that she had spoken the last sentence out loud.
“Ximen? What has he got to do with it?”
Shan Cai sighed as she looked at her husband like he’d grown another head. “ You pighead! Wasn’t it Ximen that Xiao You liked before?”
“She did?” Ah Si’s surprise was genuine. “So that’s why she was looking for him that night…” he thought as he recalled the time Xiao You asked him and Mei Zhou to help look for Ximen when she came back briefly from Canada.
SC could only shake her head. Ah Si could be so obtuse sometimes. “She did. I warned her against him but I never thought she and Lei…” Her voice trailed off as she yawned.
“Hey… stop wondering about Lei will you?. Go to sleep.” Ah Si nagged her testily, leaving his work to go to bed with his wife. Although they were together now, a part of him is still jealous over Shan Cai's closeness to Lei. It was irrational he knows because she has shown him how much he meant to her when he lost his memory but he couldn't help it. Ah Si was about to say more but she wasn't listening. She was already asleep.
Ah Si sighed. “Lei and Xiao You? Who would have thought? But that’s good. At least now, Lei will be happy. Xiao You’s a nice person. Yes. I must remember to congratulate my friend on his good taste.” He thought as he too drifted off to sleep.
