Chapter 1
"She's My Girlfriend"
"Li Xin!" Mr. Chen called, his voiced softened from the amount of customers voices.
"Coming!" I yelled, I was holding a tray, filled with dirty dishes left behind by some of the customers. Mr. Chen was the owner of Chen Shi Resturant. He was a man in his fourties, his black hair hung to his shoulders, he was short, and wide on the sides. He was a joyful, happy man only when customers were around, and would always wear a fake smile. I rushed through the kitchen doors, and found myself in smoke. "Mr.Chen?" I asked, not knowing where he was.
"I'm here." He suddenly appeared in front of me, his hands holding a basket. "Li Xin, Help me deliver this to the Inn on the other side of the city." He handed the heavy basket to me, causing me to drop the tray of dirty dishes.
'Crash!'The glass bowls shattered on the dirty floor.
"You're so clumsy. You go ahead, this customer is very important, don't be late! I'll clean up the mess here." He said, and he went deeper into the smoke to find the cleaning supplies.
"Yes Sir." I replied, and i ran outside with the heavy basket to my bike. It was an old bike, but I loved it, because it was from my father. Three years ago he bought it for me, telling me that whenever he wasn't around, I could always ride this bike to his company, and find him. As I rode, I remembered alot of things that I used to do with the boy I once loved like eat, play, ride, all of those sweet memories. They all seemed like a burden to me now, because even if I wanted to forget them, I couldn't. I hated myself because of that.
It was about 8 o'clock when I reached the Inn. I think it would've been faster if I took the bus instead, but either way it would've been better than just staying in the resturant. I'm not just an ordinary waiter at Chen Shi Resturant, I was also a cashier, dishwasher and all the other jobs required in the resturant, other than cooking. The Inn was huge, I wouldn't have considered it an Inn, more like a 3 star hotel. It kind of ressembled my old home, now that I saw it in a closer view, the yellow lights shining proudly in the night, almost like stars, just bigger. I parked my bike beside one of the entrance doors, and walked in. The Entrance had glass revolving doors, the kind that you pushed in circles to go in. The bright red carpet of the Inn made it look grand and royal; the lobby had 3 sofas, each very detailed and fancy. As I was about to walk to the information center to ask if I was able to go upstairs and deliver the meal, I noticed the information line was very long. So I decided to wait a bit in the lobby.
Just when I was about to reach one of the sofas' and sit down, I felt an arm pull me over, causing me to drop the containers of food I was supposed to deliver. I found myself, beside a boy, about the same age as myself, and his arm around me, his hand rested firmly on my shoulder. I stared at him, but he didn't look familiar. He had dark black hair, and was dressed in a white long sleeve shirt, with a black vest overtop, dark blue jeans, and dress shoes.
"She's my girlfriend." He stated as he revealed a smile, to the three boys across from us. I never noticed them till now, until the boy next to me started talking to them.
"Wha --" I tried to ask what he was saying, before he covered my mouth.
"Really?" The middle boy said, his voice sounding as if he didn't believe the lie at all. He had light orange hair, that shown in the light, obviously the works of a hair salon, his hair was almost down to his shoulders, but he looked cool that way. He was also wearing a black wool trench coat, and white jeans and dress shoes. He was circling around me and the boy now, his eyes fixed on me. I couldn't help but back up a bit, he did look a bit scary; almost as if he found out, and would kill me for going with the lie. "Does she come to our school?" He asked curiously, his murderous eyes still haven't moved a millimetre.
"No, but she will, starting tomorrow." The boy next to me stated. He was still wearing that smile of his.
"See you tomorrow then." The middle boy said as he left. And while he walked away, he let out a little wave, and then put his hand back into his coat pocket.
"We're going to leave now too, bye." The other two said in unison, and left.
"Thank God." the boy beside me said, as he walked to the nearest sofa, and sat down. I walked up to him.
"What did you do that for?" I asked, "I don't know you."
"So?" He said calmly, his eyes were closed now, it was almost like he was falling asleep just talking to me.
"What was that about?" I asked curiously, "You didn't just do that because you had nothing better to do, right?" His eyes opened.
"You're coming to school tomorrow right?"
"What?"
"I'd take that as a yes."
"I don't even know where your school is, and I have school tomorrow."
"I go to EastSun, see you tomorrow." He was getting ready to leave.
"You mean the school for rich families?"
"Yup." He got up on his feet. Just before he left, I stated confidently,
"First of all, I'm not rich anymore. Second, I don't even know your name, why should I switch schools for you anyway? Third, I can't pay the tuition there. I can't even pay the rent to rent a house, if it wasn't for my boss, I wouldn't be--" The delivery came back into my mind. "The delivery!" I screamed. The boy was confused, staring at me as I tried to find any containers that haven't spilled, but it was hopeless. I sighed. "There goes my job, and my home." I said, spiritless.
"What? How can you lose your home by losing your job?" he said in disbelief. I couldn't help but start crying, I just lost all I had, thanks to a boy I didn't even know the name of.
"It's all thanks to you, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have lost my job. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have lost my home. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have lost that I have!" I fell down on my knees and buried my hands in my face.
"Are you sure you're going to be fired?" he asked quietly.
"Mr.Chen isn't going to forgive me." I whispered.
He pulled me up, and made me walk with him. I followed his lead, I was spiritless, like a shell. We stopped in front of a yellow Acura sports car. He opened the door, carried me in to the passenger's seat, and shut the door after I was settled in. He walked in front of the car to the other side, and got in as well.
"What's the address?" he asked.
"To what?" I said emotionless.
"To the Resturant you work at."
"It's on the card in my bag." I pointed to the bag I carried, that now layed between me and the boy. He reached into my bag, and searched for about a minute or so, and found a pink card.
"Is this it?"
I nodded. He started the car, stepped on the gas pedal, and we were off, back to the place I know I could no longer call home.-----------------------------------------------------------
