Sometimes beautiful memories linger in your mind and before you know it, it will forever remain in your heart.
She already lost count on how many times she tried convincing herself that this is right thing to do. To open up the heart and bury all the moments which once made her believe that Vic Zhou was destined to be with her, until eternity allows them to. Like a constant hammering in her chest, she mentally loathed herself for being deeply drawn into his world, she was so drawn that she didn’t know if she would be able to come out of it anymore.
It was one of those moments that he caught her absent minded like she was pondering about something no one could ever figure out. Although he chose to ignore it before, the rational part of his being tells him that he was just pretending to be clueless and couldn’t even believe he has acquired the greatest form of selfishness---pretensions.
The atmosphere was solemn yet the chatterings were easily heard, as expected of a high class restaurant. However, the silence lingering in their table lasted for more than it was supposed to stay.
“Barbie..” There was a whisper of insecurity in Alan’s voice
“Hmmm?..”
“Dee told me about your visit in the hospital..” He made a mental note not to start this kind sensitive conversations again in the future.
“I got worried...that’s all..” Barbie stammered as she was crossing her fingers under the table. No it wasn’t just a simple worry..She was concerned and overly worried about his ex-lover.
“Doesn’t that mean that you still care for him?..”He risked asking
Barbie shot him an incredulous look. What is this? Some sort of Vic Zhou Promotions?
“I don’t understand what you’re trying to point out..”
“You must know this is hard on my part, Barbie.. I promised to wait till you open your heart for me, but if I will just be the hindrance of your real happiness, then I must say that I don’t want you to waste your time pitying me..” He felt as if the world’s weight was lifted on his shoulder. For how many days, he had sleepless nights just thinking about how to confirm Barbie’s feelings for him
“I’m not pitying anyone here, Xiao Zhu..I just don’t understand why everyone around me keeps pushing me back to my misery!” Her voice exuding all her frustrations, from the advices of her mother on how Vic still deserves a chance, to her sister’s nosiness about the condition of her heart and now the horrible nightmare came, Alan almost hinting his retreat.
“You can’t blame me Barbie! You never told me that you like me!..” The intrepid boldness of his confession left Barbie startled.
“Let’s stop this useless argument..” Barbie tried regaining her calm
“I can’t help but feel that I’m forcing you to include me in your life..that I’m forcing you to have a change of heart..”
“Then If I say I want to be your girlfriend right now..Will you still feel dejected?..” She believed that the only way to stop his insecurities is to start a formal relationship. Since she already went this far just to forget everything about Vic, she thought that she might as well take a further step and gamble on the chances of being happy with someone else.
He was just a human being, and human beings tend to be greedy sometimes. His mind almost obliged his mouth to say yes to that idea. He thought this was the greatest opportunity that came his way ever since he started this “Non-Exclusive Relationship” with her.
“Just say that you won’t feel gloomy if she agrees to be your girl!” His eager heart told him
But the logical side of him prevailed and let the chance escape from his grasp.
“Under these circumstances, you must not be rash in your decision making...” It almost killed him to say
“Then what should I do for you to believe that I’m ready to take the next step with you?..” Barbie asked
“Ten Days..” He said
Barbie gave out a confused look as she inquired “What about it?..”
“I give you ten days to think over..and finalize your decision..”
“I told you..We don’t have to do this..I’m not asking for a contemplating period!”
“If you’re so sure of yourself..You won’t change answers..but..”
“But what?” Barbie looked him in the eye
“But I want you to be with Vic for the next ten days..”
“You know this is pointless, Xiao Zhu..”
“I’m asking you this as a favor..If you still come back and tell me that you want to start over..then we would be able to erase all the doubts in our hearts..I’m doing this for the both of us, Bie..”
“Done Deal..”
The next ten days can either be the happiest or the most damaging days of her life.
