It will be the most memorable vacation of his life,really. They almost ran out of outdoor activities. Fishing, hiking, sighsteeing, swimming..name it..and tried they did.
And for a while back there, he thought he was just dreaming.
They’ve had cheerful banters, awkward teasings and a lot of catching up.
Damn it but it seemed familiar..He felt her familiarity, her warm, and as much as Vic wanted to deny it..
Barbie felt like home
He gave out an obviously loud sigh which puzzled her
“You seem to be occupied..” Barbie concluded as she sat on the swing couch
How could possibly a man’s eye hold that much of emotions?
“We’ve been here for 3 days already..My heart tells me I only have one more week to learn..” It was the saddest smile his face could ever form.
“Learn..?” She asked
“Learn how to live without you..” His head hung low
She blinked a few times to hold back the threatening tears. Blame the alcohol for taking away all kinds of logical common sense. His closeness was lethal, his gazes were penetrating, she was sure there was a sudden tug in her chest.
“Barbie, do you really like Alan?..” He risked asking
Barbie battled with the urge of turning back. The topic was torturing her like hell.
“He’s a good man..”
To actually hear straight from Barbie’s mouth that Alan was a good man was enough to make him realize what a complete jerk he must’ve been.
She knew she’s not supposed to hurt him anymore but the compliment just slipped out naturally.
“When you suddenly came to my house and told me to go on a vacation with you..I knew you were up to something..I asked Dee and she told me that this is a deal between you and Alan..to test if things will still work out for us..”
“I’m sorry..”
“Barbie..I think you deserve to know the truth first..Not so long ago..Dee told me that Alan courting you was just a conspiracy between them..”
Barbie could only gape in disbelief. Everyone seemed to be fooling her.
Seeing Barbie’s reaction, Vic felt sorry for the both of them. This joke that love posed on them was just plain difficult and definitely not funny.
Fresh tears fell from her wary eyes as she heard him say “But Alan falling inlove with you was not part of the plan..”
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier, Zai?..” She had to ask
“I don’t want you to hate Alan because he agreed to court you as part of the deal..”
“And hurt yourself because of me?...”
“I had to make sure you’ll be happy..That’s the least thing I could do for you..” He said truthfully
No, she was not crying for herself, At that moment she realized how much hurt Vic had gone through for her. The fact that he knew that Alan had a fake purpose right at the beginning could have given him an advantage..but he chose to stay quiet..to let her decide whom she really wants to be with..to let her follow her heart..even if it means sacrificing his own happiness.
“I feel like I’m the most cruel person in the world, Zai..”
“No..Blame me because I love you so much, you might not know it...but I still do..”
He hugged her tight until she felt hurt no more, kissed her tears away, his lips praying her name, his eyes apologizing over and over again, hopelessly telling her how much he missed her.
She didn’t resist.
Because when Vic Zhou hugged her again the way he used to do,
Everything fell into its proper place.
If only the night would last until they reach eternity, Vic could be the happiest man in the world, just like the old times.
Just like the old times with her.
