Theme # 19 – I Promise, I Won't Make the Same Mistake "AGAIN"
A man, who was probably in his early 20’s, inhaled the sweet fresh air as he stepped outside of his doorsteps. The crispy cool air softly stabbed his face but he ignored it. The sun was out yet the air was cold - winter was near. He chuckled. Winter…the year where the soft white snowflakes would slowly drift from the clouds above down to the Earth’s ground, where lonely painful souls are wondering about in the woods, the year where the World is covered with cold iciness.

At the thought of that, his eyes grew distant. He sighed and rubbed his cold hands together before blowing some warm air to them. Stuffing his hands inside of his pockets, his eyes furrowed when his fingers felt something smooth and cold. He reached deep inside his pocket and pulled the thing out, revealing a small shiny silvery item. His lips tugged upwards as he realized it was his locket.

No wait…it was ‘their’ locket.

He closed his eyes and gently kissed the top of the beautiful item. Slowly opening the locket, a soft yet sad melody played bringing back memories in the back of his mind. It happened quite long ago, probably millennium years ago. But to him…it seems as if it was just yesterday…

-Past LIFE-
It was as if the world was covered in a huge white blanket. He could feel the loneliness in the quiet atmosphere around him. It seemed like the whole world was asleep except for him. But he didn’t mind. He did want to be alone. Nothing and no one was important in his life.

Though you couldn’t blame him for his cold personality. It wasn’t his fault. What would you do if your parents died in front of you? Of course to him, it left his world shattering into pieces. As for love relationships, it was just a waste of his time. He, of course, had fallen in love with a beautiful maiden. He had given her full love and attention; his heart and trust. And in return she had also broke his world. Her soft words were nothing but lies. He’d been hurt countless of times and the only way to protect him from getting hurt was to push everyone away.

People never accepted whom he really was inside. Those bitches just loved his royalty and his power. A cold Prince he was and because of that his people were afraid. In a few years he would be their king and because of his personality, they were afraid what would happen in their future.

The snow crunched beneath his boots as he walked to his favorite place; a garden where in the spring and summer, there are gorgeous white and blood red roses surrounding the area, and in the autumn and winter there is nothing but a beautiful fountain. (AN: -___- Well duh, the roses and flowers all die in the winter…)

He stopped walking when he heard amazing bell like giggles ringing throughout the place. Yet at the same time, he was alert.

“Hi there,”

He whipped his body around to find such a beautiful angelic creature a few feet away from him. Such beautiful pair of dark brown orbs and his pale skin was as white as the snow beneath his feet.

“I’m a boy, if you’re wondering.”

His eyes widened. “You-You’re a boy?”

“Yup!” The girly looking creature giggled and twirled around in a circle. “I’m JaeJoong and you are…?”

“Yunho…”

The feminine boy stopped twirling and looked up at Yunho. “Yunho? Ah so you must be the Prince that my parents are always talking about.” He giggled again and then jumped to Yunho’s side. “Hmm! You’re so tall.” He pouted cutely. “But it’s alright! At least I’m taller than my sisters.”

‘Strange…’ Yunho thought. A warm feeling washed over him but he scolded himself to not be fool by JaeJoong’s innocent appearance.

“So, I’m guessing this Garden must belong to you right?”

Yunho nodded.

JaeJoong opened his mouth to reply when he smacked himself on the forehead with his palm. “Ah! I just remember that my mother wants me to be home before the sun reaches the west. I gotta go now! It was nice knowing you! Bye Yunho!” JaeJoong gave Yunho a warm smile before turning around and running off.

Yunho rolled his eyes and was about to walk back in his own direction when a shiny item caught the corner of his eye. Curious he crouched down and picked it up. “A locket?” He looked up to find no one else in the gardens besides him. ‘That was quick…’ He sighed as he placed the locket in his armor and made his way back to his palace.

It has been 3 days since Yunho met the strange cheery girly looking boy who was named JaeJoong. It was already late at night but Yunho couldn’t help but wonder to his gardens.

Sitting down on the fountain he stared up at the bright full moon.

“The full moon looks amazingly breath taking tonight doesn’t it?”

Yunho jumped and looked to his side to find JaeJoong sitting next to him. The girly looking boy giggled and bit his lower lip. “I’m sorry for sneaking up on you.”

“It’s…quite alright.” He replied coldly and turned his attention back to the bright circle above the Earth.

“How come I have never seen you smile before?”

“You just met me 3 days ago. How would you know if I smile or not?”

“Oh true, but I’ve always watched you from a far away.” JaeJoong smiled and looked at Yunho, his eyes twinkled.

“Oh…” Yunho sighed and looked away.

“You know…my mommy once told me,” He giggled and stood up. “That if you’re ever lonely just look up at the stars and count how many you see.”

Yunho snorted. “What good would that do?”

“It shows how many people there are in this world that care for you. And I think it’s true! Hmmm I see … 5 no wait … 10- ah! 15!”

Yunho couldn’t help but feel a little jealous over JaeJoong. JaeJoong had so many people to care for and people to care him while he had no one but himself.

“Don’t worry. You have someone who cares for you too Yunho.”

“Are you like a telepathic mind reader?”

JaeJoong laughed. He lean down, his face was a few inches away from Yunho’s. “Nope, it’s just your face expression.”

Yunho frowned but then shrugged it off.

“I’d love to stay and chat some more, but I gotta go. It’s late, so I’ll see you sometime tomorrow! Bye, bye!”

Yunho nodded. Then he just remembered JaeJoong’s locket and shouted, “Wait!”

JaeJoong stopped to a halt and turned around. “Yes?”

“Your locket. You dropped it the other day.”

“Ah! I was looking for that.” JaeJoong quickly ran back towards Yunho.

The taller boy pulled out the shiny item from his armor and placed it in JaeJoong’s palm. “There you go.”

JaeJoong smiled brightly and opened the locket. A crescent moon shape was in the middle with four diamond stars on each side. As soon as the locket was fully opened a beautiful tune came from the silvery item. “You like it?”

“This song…” Yunho started. “It’s so sad…”

“The song is called Toki Wo Koeru Omoi,” JaeJoong giggled. “Actually you know what?”

“What?”

“I want you to have it,” When Yunho refused, JaeJoong rolled his eyes and grabbed his hands. “Keep it so you could remember me. Anyways, I’ll just drop it again like I always do.”

When Yunho finally took it, JaeJoong waved good bye and jogged away.

“JaeJoong ah!”

He turned around so that he was running backwards. “Yeah?”

Yunho gave out a small smile and mouthed ‘Thank You,’

…Weeks later…

Yunho smiled silently to himself as he continued making his way to the garden. He had secretly wanted to meet JaeJoong, though he promised to himself that he’d never show his true feelings. He had suddenly change over the pass few weeks since he met JaeJoong. There was something about that girly looking boy that made his heart fluttered.

Yunho gasped in awe when he saw the pretty boy standing alone in the gardens. There next to the fountain was JaeJoong, wearing a somewhat kind of a white long silky robe. His pale snowy white skin seemed to be blending in with his robe though they made his dark chocolate eyes standing out.

“Hi…”

“Hello Yunho,” JaeJoong greeted him with a warm smile that gave him a tingling feeling inside.

There was something different about him today. His voice…they sounded so hurt and his eyes didn’t twinkle or shine like they usually did. ‘I wonder what had happened…’ He wanted to ask what was wrong, however stubborn as he was he decided to keep quiet.

“Yunho ah…”

“Yeah?”

JaeJoong bit his lower lip turned around so that his back was facing Yunho. “What…what are your feelings towards me?”

“My feelings?” Yunho asked in surprised. Why did JaeJoong want to know? Could it be that JaeJoong – no it couldn’t be. He wasn’t going to let that happened to him again. Just because JaeJoong appeared innocent, didn’t mean he was innocent. Those whom have such a pretty face are usually the ones who are contained wickedness deep inside of them. Though…he couldn’t help but wonder…was JaeJoong one of them?

He shook his head and laughed. “I don’t feel honey. They are nothing but a waste of my time.”

“I’m serious…what are your feelings?” JaeJoong turned around and faced Yunho. “Please tell me how you feel about me…because Yunho I love-”

“Don’t…”

“What?”

“Don’t tell me that you love me. LOVE is nothing but a WASTE OF MY TIME. You and the rest of the people I know are just all the same. You people just want my power and or the throne. As soon as I let my guard down, you and other people will step over me as if I’m just a piece of garbage. Don’t say stuff out if in the end you don’t mean it.”

Those eyes that were once full of light, shattered, as each word that came from the man that stood in front of him. He laughed bitterly at himself, for making himself a fool. “I see. Thanks for showing me how in this world there could be people who are as cold-hearted as you are. I’m such a fool to even have decided to express my feelings to you. Good bye, Yunho. Don’t ever expect me to come here again. This will be my last time coming here and talking with you.” And just like that… JaeJoong took a last glance at Yunho before walking away.

Wanting to escape from reality and say it was only a dream.

That’s what Yunho wanted. As soon as JaeJoong left he regretted the words that flew out from his mouth. He should’ve followed his own advice.

Don’t say stuff out if in the end you don’t mean it.

He walked to the gardens the next day, hoping and praying it was all a dream. However he found nothing. There was no beautiful angel. No soft sweet giggles like soft melodies there to ring the quiet place. No smile to warm him up even in the icy cold air. Nothing…

Suddenly, the locket fell out from his armor and landed in front of him. ‘His locket…’ His eyes softened as he picked it up. He quickly blew off the snowflakes and held it tightly close to his heart as if protecting it from the outside world.

JaeJoong’s locket…

He couldn’t afford to lose it. It was the only thing that reminded him of his angel.

“Prince Yunho, there is an invitation here-” One of his guardians named, Yoochun, started yet was interrupted by his cold Prince.

“I don’t care-”

“But your highness it says for you to go to Prince JaeJoong’s wedding ceremony…”

Yunho stopped walking. Had he just heard right? Prince JaeJoong’s wedding ceremony? (AN: Prince? Eh… More like Princess to me… AH! Sorry for interrupting! XD)

His mind went fuzzy all of sudden, his chest started hurting; throbbing in pain. His head pounded and he clutched his chest. The pain that he always wanted to get away from…was coming back.

‘JaeJoong…why?’

The rooms and outdoors were crowded with people who came to JaeJoong’s wedding ceremony. Millions of girls swoon over him, but he gently pushed them away or said he was busy and walked away. There was only ONE person that he wanted to meet right now, yet that pretty face was no where to be found.

Finally, in the middle of the ballroom, there stood his angel in the hands of another Prince. There were three other men who JaeJoong and his spouse. He walked closer trying to eavesdrop on what they were talking about.

“Oh JaeJoong hyung ah! I can’t believe you’re getting married already!” Changmin squealed.

“I KNOW! I could still remember the time when we fought over for that one beautiful blossom robe. And now I can’t believe you’re marrying my brother. We could finally be brothers!”

JaeJoong laughed. “Junsu ah, even if I didn’t marry Se7en, I’ll always accept you as my baby brother.” (AN: Yes they don’t look alike but just go with it! *sighs*)

Yunho rolled his eyes. He could already see that JaeJoong’s cheery was all just an act. His eyes didn’t shine like they usually did before what had happened months ago. ‘And it was all because of…’ He shook his head to clear out his mind. This wasn’t the time to feel sorry. He needed a way to get JaeJoong alone.

“Aww really?” Junsu pretended to wipe a tear away. He threw his arms around JaeJoong’s neck and hugged him tightly. “Congratulation, I love you Jae.”

“I love you too Junnie.” JaeJoong let go and giggled. “I need to go get some fresh air, I’ll see you guys later in a little while.”

Yunho ears perked up. Finally, the angel will be alone. He quickly followed after his angel out the door. …

They’ve been walking for sometime now or well, JaeJoong was walking and Yunho secretly and quietly following.

JaeJoong suddenly came to a stop and Yunho quickly hid behind a huge tree. The pretty boy cleared his throat and looked around. “I know someone’s following me. Whoever you are come out.”

‘It’s now or never…’ Yunho thought. He stepped out into the light and walked towards the feminine boy.

JaeJoong’s eyes widened when he finally saw who was following him. The unbearable pain that Yunho had caused was still there. And out of all the people Yunho was the last person he wanted to see. So why now? Why did that jerk have to come to his wedding.

He pointed out a finger at Yunho. “You?!”

“JaeJoong ah, please listen.”

“No YOU listen to ME! Why are you here? You are the last person that I want to see right now.”

Yunho winced. Another painful stab pierced his chest. He gave out a small sad smile and reached out for JaeJoong’s arm. “Jae please listen…”

JaeJoong flinched from Yunho’s soft touch. He glared up at Yunho, tears threatening to fall yet he blinked them back. “If you’re wondering if I still love you, I don’t. I hate you. Actually take that back I DESPISE you.” He turned around and was about to walk away when Yunho grabbed his arm and jerked him back.

“Why are you so cold?”

“You’re the one who taught me that.”

Yunho chuckled and pulled JaeJoong closer to him. Just as JaeJoong was about to give out a cry, Yunho crashed his lips against JaeJoong’s. JaeJoong’s eyes flew open wide. He tried pulling away but Yunho tightened his hold. A warm tingling sensation washed over JaeJoong’s body but as soon as he closed his eyes and saw Se7en he finally had the strength to push Yunho away.

“What the hell? Why’d you do that?!” JaeJoong shouted angrily and wiped his lips.

“You’re lying. You still love me don’t you.”

The feminine boy shook his head and looked at Yunho in disbelieve. “You don’t understand do you? I don’t love you anymore. And I was such a fool to even thought you had the heart to love me back.”

“But I love you…I really do. I was stupid and blind. JaeJoong ah, please forget about this marriage and -”

“I believe it’s a little too late.”

“Such a dramatic scene out here,” A voice came from behind JaeJoong.

Yunho and JaeJoong turned to find a young man with shoulder length pitch black hair and brown eyes. He grinned at them and clapped.

JaeJoong stood in front of Yunho. “Who are you?”

“Why my beautiful Prince, such a harsh tone of voice.” He’d been watching their argument since the guy he believed was called Yunho, followed the beautiful Prince. Curious on what the problem was, he decided to join in silently to their conversation. “I’m just a son of your mother’s long friend. She must’ve never mention about me to you.” He placed a hand over his chest, signaling at how hurt he was.

“What are you doing out here? Shouldn’t you be inside with the others?”

Rain gave JaeJoong a loving smile. “My beautiful Prince, I should ask you the same thing. However, I believe I’ve heard that Yunho was asking you for your forgiveness?” Rain smirked at the questioning looks from JaeJoong and Yunho. He pulled out his long sword and handed it to JaeJoong. “Kill him.”

JaeJoong eyed the sword then looked back at Rain. “For what purpose?”

“To prove that you don’t love this stupid guy here,”

Yunho chuckled. “Go ahead. You said you didn’t love me right?” He looked down at JaeJoong.

JaeJoong frozed in place as he looked up at Yunho in disbelief. “What?”

“Just as I thought,” Rain sighed, feeling disappointed towards the innocent pretty boy. “You’re too innocent to kill a person who you once loved. That’s fine. If you won’t do it, I’ll gladly take your place.”

Yunho swallowed the lump at his throat. As soon as he raised his sword, Yunho smiled and closes his eyes. Maybe seeing him dead would make JaeJoong happy…who knows. At least once he’s dead he won’t have to suffer through these painful stabs in his heart.

‘How does dying feel?’ He couldn’t help but wonder. He waited for the coming attack through him, yet he felt nothing. ‘Is this…how it feels to die?’ Feeling nothing? Yunho opened eye. As soon as he saw what had happened he opened both eyes. “JaeJoong!”

Rain quickly pulled back his sword and dropped it. “JaeJoong ah?! That wasn’t supposed to happen! I mean…!”

Yunho quickly caught JaeJoong’s body with ease. He looked at Rain, his eyes blazing with hatred and fire held in them. “Shut up and get the others for help!”

As soon as Rain left, Yunho crouched down and cuddled JaeJoong’s body close to his. His left hand was already stained and sticky from JaeJoong’s wounded side. Dark crimson blood oozed out from the wound and Yunho couldn’t help but wince.

His right hand trembled as he brushed JaeJoong’s long bangs away from his beautiful eyes. “JaeJae…why?” Strange his voice had came out soft and sad.

“Yunho ah…I lied.” JaeJoong whispered. “I still love you. I’m sorry for hurting you. I was just so hurt…”

“Shhh…I know. I should be the one who’s saying sorry.” He hugged JaeJoong’s body tighter. “I’m the one who’s to be blamed on…” A tear trickled down his cheek as he planted a kiss on JaeJoong’s forehead.

JaeJoong opened his eyes, to find everything fuzzy and unfocused. “Yunnie…it’s weird seeing you cry…” He raised up a hand to wipe another tear that was rolling down Yunho’s cheek.

Instead of answering Yunho slowly leaned down and brushed his lips over JaeJoong’s. His shoulders shook as tears continued to flow down his cheeks. “JaeJoong ah…I love you.” He whispered against JaeJoong’s lips.

“I love you too Yunnie…”

After a minute or so Yunho finally pulled back. “It’s…cold…” His angel whispered. His voice was becoming softer and his breathing was becoming quieter.

“JaeJoong, please don’t leave me…”

Forcing himself to open his eyes one last time, he looked up at Yunho and darted his eyes back and forth. “Promise me…that we’ll be together next time.”

“I promise.”

JaeJoong gave out his last smile before slowly closing his eyes…forever. Yunho’s shoulders trembled again as he buried his head at the crook of JaeJoong’s neck, rocking back and forth trying to ease his aching heart.

‘The sword…’ His eyes snapped opened. He choked back a sob as he gently placed JaeJoong’s body to the ground. Turning to his left, he saw the sword with crimson blood all over. ‘JaeJoong’s blood…’ He grabbed the sword and in one swift move, he thrust the sword into his own chest. With one last breath he gasped out, “JaeJoong… I promise that we’ll be able to be together…in our next life…”

Closing his eyes as he lay beside his beloved the small locket fell out from his armor and landed between the two dying lovers. It slowly opened and throughout the teary night, a familiar soft sweet melody played.

-Present-

As the music faded and the memories of his past life started to dissolved, Yunho slowly opened his eyes and looked at the locket in his palms. He could still feel and remember the sword through his own breast.

“YUNNIE AH!”

He was snapped back to reality and shook his head to clear out his mind. He turned around to face a bouncy angel. “Joongie…”

“Common! I want to play tag! I’ve been calling you for HOURS now!”

Yunho tilted his head. “Hours huh?”

JaeJoong nodded his head. “Common!” He pouted cutely. “Unless if you don’t want any of my famous Ramen Noodles for dinner later, that’s fine with me.”

“AH! Okay, okay!” Yunho threw his hands up in the air. “Fine, I’ll play tag.”

JaeJoong squealed happily while jumping up and down. Yunho chuckled and shook his head. His beautiful angel was the same as always. Always so cheerful and happy… “I promise I won’t make the same mistakes again…”

JaeJoong tilted his head and gave Yunho a questioning look. “Huh? What mistakes?”

“Huh? Oops, hahaha never mind…you’ll understand some day.”

o.O “You’re weird. Ah-well that’s one of the things I like about you anyways!” The feminine boy shouted happily and jogged a few feet away. “Common Yunnie! You’re it!”

Yunho looked down at his locket again before tucking it back inside of his pocket. “JaeJoong ah!”

“Yeah?”

“I love you!”

JaeJoong stuck out his tongue. “I love you too dork!”

“Dork? Ah – hell no…” Yunho smiled evilly and charged after the giggling angel.

A cold wind blew softly making each of the colors of different autumn leaves fluttered around the two as they laughed and giggled in their neighborhood. Yunho caught JaeJoong by the waist and nuzzled his chin onto JaeJoong’s shoulder. JaeJoong quickly pulled Yunho’s arms off of his waist and stuck out his tongue at Yunho. He grabbed a bunch of leaves and threw it in the air.

“Yunnie! Look at me! I’m dancing with the leaves!”

The taller boy shook his head and smiled. ‘JaeJoong, I promise…’
