Chapter 1

Heaven by the Sea

“Keep the change mister. Thanks.”
Sky handed the taxi driver her fare and thanked him.
The taxi then drove away and she was left standing in front of a wide steel gate. It was high enough that even NBA basketball players couldn’t take a peek over what’s inside.

She sighed.
The gate….
‘It wasn’t there before’, she told herself.

She fixed herself. She placed the glasses on her eyes properly and combed by her fingers her short hair. She stretched her black skirt so to keep it on the level of her knee as well as her white sleeveless blouse to keep it looking neat.
She breathed deeply before pushing the doorbell beside the big gate.

“Who is it?” the voice coming from an audio device spoke.
She knew there was a video cam beside it so she smiled widely as she answered.

“Hi! I’m the one Mrs. Choi sent in her behalf. I think she told you already right?”
There was no response for a few seconds.
She waited calmly.

Finally, the voice spoke again.
“Ok. Wait there.”

She sighed after hearing it.
Now she’s moving forward with her plans.

After awhile, the steel door opened.
Her heart skipped as she saw the inside.

Memories started playing in her head.
The laughter and the tears.

‘Yes, the tears.’

She pinched herself so to stay in reality.
No time for reminiscing.

“Follow me.” The old man who opened the door told her.

She wanted to cry seeing the man in front of her.
She couldn’t believe he was still there, living in the hacienda.

“Ok.” It was all she answered and she then moved after him.

The sea wind is blowing in her face.
She couldn’t help but to glance on the beautiful waves kissing the shores.

The smell of the sea was making her head spin again into an inevitable memory recalls.
She must be tough this time, she told herself.

She was holding her breath as she walked on the cemented path leading to the house built beautifully at the distant.
The house has its own small gate and looked so elegant.
(a/n the view is somewhat like this: http://www.haciendasoleada.com/galleries/vacation_rental_photos.html)

She glanced at the left side of place; there were trees and plants all over.

She smiled as she saw them.
They were still there.

‘Thank God those jerks weren’t so stupid enough to destroy them.’
Her thoughts were quickly cut when the old man suddenly spoke.

“This is Hacienda Cielo del Mar. Owned by the late Mr.Han.but now, it is run by new people who were able to replace him.”

‘Yeah right. Those people who were kind enough to replace Mr.Han.’ she smirked.
She still was listening to the old man as he continued talking.

“On the right part of the Hacienda is the sea and the left part are the fields where the cattle and livestock were raised. We also raise different kinds of fruits and plants which we deliver to the city.”

‘Yeah… as if I don’t know.’ She mocked him.

“And now about your job here miss…what’s your name by the way?”
“Sky.”
“Yeah, what? Sky?”
“Uhmm.. yeah. Sky. Why are you asking?”
“It’s just you reminded me of someone.”

The man was thinking deeply as if he was recalling where he heard her name.

“Uncle?”

The man was startled as she pats him on the shoulder.

“Yeah… yeah…”
“Are you ok?”
“Yeah sure. Where were we?”
“Uhmm about my job?”
“Ow yeah! About your job.”

She smiled lightly as she saw him acting like that.
He never did change.

“Since you’re replacing Mrs. Choi, you will be in charge of the house. You will clean it and keep it well arranged. You will help prepare food for our bosses and make sure you will serve them well.”

‘Bosses? Damn. Those jerks were the bosses now. Let’s see for how long will the be the bosses.’

“You got it?” the man asked her.

“Yeah, got it uncle.”

“Good. By the way, don’t call me uncle. Only two people call me that and they’re dead. Call me Mr.Lee. You’re giving me goosebumps when I hear you say it.”

“Araso, Un… Mr.Lee”

“Feel free to roam around so you’ll get familiar with the place.”

She smiled seeing the old man leave.

‘Even if I close my eyes I could remember everything uncle.’

She looked around again.
She missed this place.

It’s been three long years.
Everything was still fresh.

‘Unni… I’ll make them pay for what they did to us. I swear to God.’

She was drying her tears as she suddenly hears a loud scream from a distance.

“Shaki come back here! Shaki!”

And like slow motion, she turned around her and saw a dog running towards her direction. The dog was a Samoyed and looked so big.
It was running towards her.

She held her breath and kept her body still just waiting for the door to jump onto her.

And indeed she was right.
The door jumped over her making her lose her balance and lay helplessly on the floor.
Shaki on the other hand, was sitting beside her and wiggling his tail.

She kept her eyes closed.
Waiting for the dog to bite her.

'Shaki.... don't bite me!' she kept screaming in her head.

But then she only felt a rough tough licking her face all over.

The dog was then pulled away by that man.
The man who called the dog Shaki.

“Gwenchana? Are you ok?” she heard a man spoke.

His voice was so familiar.
She felt her heart skipped a beat hearing his voice.
It was husky and low.

“Miss… Are you ok?”

This time she has no choice but to open her eyes.
And for the 98th time since she came inside the Hacienda, she held her breath again.
The man standing in front of her was no other than him.

‘Ju…Junsuah…..’
