Sitting on the benches, MEI ZHUO and XI MEN wait silently for LEI, who is coming from Japan, and SHAN CAI and DAO MING SI from Barcelona. After an impatient few minutes, they see Lei appear through the arrival gate.
XI MEN
Lei, you’re here!
LEI greets Xi Men. They hand-clasp and pat each other in the back. Lei greets Mei Zhuo with the same gesture.
MEI ZHUO
Long time no see.
LEI
Long time no see.
(looks around)
Where’s Ah Si and Shan Cai?
MEI ZHUO
They haven’t arrived yet.
XI MEN
Great to see you again, Lei.
Glad you can come home.
LEI
Like you said, everybody has to come soon.
XI MEN
Yes, and you let us pick you up.
MEI ZHUO
Those two are making us wait for so long. Xi Men, you wait for them. I’d help Lei get his luggage in the car.
XI MEN
Ok.
Mei Zhuo and Lei leaves. After a while, Xi Men see SHAN CAI and DAO MING SI approaching.
DAO MING SI
You idiot! You’re doing embarrassing things always!
SHAN CAI
I never! This was your fault, not mine! I asked you if you have it, you said yes.
DAO MING SI
I had your luggage, yes.
Xi Men laughs silently as the couple stops in front of him.
XI MEN
You two are really back together. What happened?
DAO MING SI
This stupid woman, she had forgotten her passport again.
SHAN CAI
It’s because of you! I was gathering our bags, I asked you if you have it, you said you already have and you were hurrying me along.
DAO MING SI
I thought you meant your bag.
SHAN CAI
pighead!
(faces Xi Men)
We were at the immigration already when I realized I don’t have it, we have to run back to the plane to get it.
DAO MING SI
Lucky you left it there and not in Barcelona.
SHAN CAI
Why should I leave it in Barcelona? I’m not stupid like you.
DAO MING SI
Hey—
XI MEN
Ok, that’s enough you two.
SHAN CAI
Where’s Mei Zhuo?
DAO MING SI
Has Lei arrived?
XI MEN
Yeah, they already went to the car to put Lei’s luggage. Come, let’s go.
EXT. SHAN CAI’S HOUSE - DAY
Two cars arrive in front of Shan Cai’s house. The neighbors look at the beautiful cars and whisper to each other, wonder who are inside. F4 step out of their cars one by one. In the first car: Dao Ming Si, then Lei. In the second car: Mei Zhuo, then Xi Men.
a good minute passes after the "F4 Stance" (a slow freeze wherein the four stand in front of their cars), Dao Ming Si sees Shan Cai is still in the car, rumaging through her handbag.
DAO MING SI
Hey Shan Cai, get out of the car. We’re already at your house.
SHAN CAI
Wait a second, I’m looking for my house keys.
DAO MING SI
Come on, we’d just ring the doorbell.
Shan Cai gets off the car. F4 carries the luggage. She presses the doorbell once and the gate immediately opens. On the other side of the gate is SHAN CAI’S MOM.
SHAN CAI’S MOM
Shan Cai, you’re home! Mama missed you!
(hugs Shan Cai, looks at F4)
Masters, so good to see you all! Come, let’s go inside.
They start walking to the front door.
SHAN CAI’S MOM (CONT’D)
Shan Cai, you have a visitor.
SHAN CAI
A visitor? Who?
MEI ZHUO
Must be the son of the nouveau rich. He was begging to come with us to pick you up, but at the last minute he was a no-show.
SHAN CAI
Is it Qing He, ma?
SHAN CAI’S MOM
No, it isn’t! It’s someone from your not-so-distant past.
Anxiety and curiosity for this mystery person display on the faces of Shan Cai and F4.
SHAN CAI
Ma, why don’t you just tell me who it is?
SHAN CAI’S MOM
It’s a surprise. Just get inside to see who!
INT. SHANCAI’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM
They enter the house and see a young lady standing in the living room. The young lady hears them arrive and she turns around.
SHAN CAI
Xiao You!
Shan Cai approaches XIAO YOU and hugs her.
SHAN CAI (CONT’D)
Xiao You, it’s really you! When did you arrive?
XIAO YOU
Shan Cai, you’re here! I missed you! I just came back last night.
SHAN CAI
I missed you too! Wait, how did you know how to find my place?
QING HE comes out of the kitchen, bringing out food. He quickly put them on the table and spreads his arms to give Shan Cai a hug.
QING HE
Shan Cai, you’re here! I missed you!
DAO MING SI
Hey, hey…son of the nouveau rich.
Recognizing the familiar fear Dao Ming Si emenates, Qing He steps back.
SHAN CAI
Qing He, good to see you.
QING HE
I was the one who brought Xiao You here.
F3 greets Xiao You.
MEI ZHUO
Xiao You, long time no see. Hey Xi Men, Xiao You is here.
Xi Men and Xiao You smile politely at each other. One of them might be going to say something, but is interrupted by Shan Cai’s mom, who comes out of the kitchen bringing more food.
SHAN CAI
So many foods! Ma, where did you get all of this?
SHAN CAI’S MOM
Qing He brought them. Come, you all settle down.
SHAN CAI
Ma, where’s dad?
SHAN CAI’S MOM
Don’t worry about him. He’s still at work, he’d be back later. You all stay here. I’d just go over to Mrs. Wang for a while.
They all gather around, except for Mei Zhuo who is on the phone with XIAO QIAO.
XI MEN
Hey, Mei Zhuo, come here already! You have called Xiao Qiao three times within the last three hours.
Mei Zhuo puts away his phone and sits down with them.
XIAO YOU
Don’t mind if I ask, who’s Xiao Qiao?
DAO MING SI
She is Mei Zhuo’s fiancée.
XIAO YOU
Really?! Mei Zhuo, you have a fiancée already? I can’t believe it!
Xiao You is surprised but happy for him. Mei Zhuo blushes but clarifies himself.
MEI ZHUO
I have a girlfriend, not a fiancée...yet.
XI MEN
Spare us the technicalities, Mei Zhuo. It’s just a matter of time. I’m sure your mothers are planning the wedding already.
Mei Zhuo’s face turns into the deepest shade of red, but his eyes are sparkling.
MEI ZHUO
Me? What about you? Xiao You...
Xi Men glares deadly at Mei Zhuo. Shan Cai catches Xiao You’s attention.
SHAN CAI
You didn’t tell me you’re coming home. I’m so happy you are here!
XIAO YOU
I’m also happy to be back. Actually, my trip back to Taiwan was quite spur of the moment. I wanted to tell you but when I called, your mom said you were in Barcelona.
(looks at Dao Ming Si and Shan Cai)
I take it that everything’s finally ok between you both.
Shan Cai and Dao Ming Si look bashfully at each other. Both blush and everyone teases them.
LEI
The past few months have been rough for everyone, but now we’re all doing well and we are all together.
They nod in agreement and make a toast with their beer cans. Shan Cai shifts back and took a good look of everyone. They are all having fun, laughing and smiling while they drink and eat.
SHAN CAI (V.O.)
The feeling now is so wonderful and great. We are all here, even Xiao You is here. We’re together, having fun, not because we have a problem. I’m finally with Dao Ming Si again. I’m very grateful for the peace we have now. I don’t know if we’d go through another trial in the future. But after the last one, I’m sure, whatever it is, we will be able to make it. Now, more than ever, especially with my family and all of my friends' love and support.
EXT. SHAN CAI’S HOUSE - FRONT DOOR - NIGHT
Ready to call it a night, Qing He bids them goodbye first.
QING HE
I have to pick up Mimi from work. Bye! F4 reunited, Bye!
F4 scowl at Qing He’s corny banter.
LEI
I’m sleepy, let’s go home. Ah Si, you can crash in my place.
Get away from you mom’s radar for the meantime.
Dao Ming Si nods.
MEI ZHUO
Shan Cai, we’ll be going. Xiao You, what about you, do you need a ride? Xi Men, why don’t you bring Xiao You home?
I’d get a ride with Ah Si and Lei instead.
Xi Men and Xiao You look awkwardly at each other.
XIAO YOU
There’s no need. I’d be sleeping over here at Shan Cai’s,
we got a lot of catching up to do. Thanks anyway.
XI MEN
(nods once)
Welcome back to Taiwan.
MEI ZHUO
We’re leaving then, bye.
SHAN CAI
Bye, thanks for picking us up at the airport.
Shan Cai looks at F4 backs as they walk toward the gate. She realizes this is the first time in a very long time that she has seen all four of them together.
SHAN CAI
You guys…
F4 turn their heads back. Shan Cai smiles curtly at them.
SHAN CAI
Careful on the road.
F4 chuckle and step out of the gate, closing it behind them.
INT. MOVING CAR – NIGHT
Mei Zhuo drives and Xi Men sits on the passenger seat.
XI MEN
Why did you do that?
MEI ZHUO
Did what?
XI MEN
Offer Xiao You I’d take her home.
MEI ZHUO
Why not? After she came back the last time because of you, aren’t you curious at all why she is back again?
Xi Men won’t answer. He blankly stares outside the window and gets into deep thought.
