She laid on the bed, flipping a magazine, looking out for the latest fashions available. Now that she had been informed about her pregnancy, it was definite that she was going to need a new wardrobe. Yet, the incessant flipping was great evidence that she was not totally into the magazine, and had other thoughts at the back of her mind.
Gillian pondered and tried to figure out what exactly did Edison mean yesterday. His sudden character change, and her unexpected response towards it. She knew she could no longer carry out her plan for revenge on this man any longer. She was in love, and she couldn’t deny it. Then poses the million dollar question: Is this man worth loving?
Once again, a loud phone ring distracted her from her thoughts, only to find the worst of news available…
----
Meanwhile, Edison was down in the sitting hall, entertaining an unexpected guest. Years had past since he last met his best pal, and things have indeed changed a lot. Just like Gillian, he was amazed by his recent changes in attitudes. His sudden “ability” to love, care, and feel? His want for a stable life? A blessing or a curse?
“I don’t know Nic. I’m kinda sick of the life I used to live, you know? I want something more stable, the kind where I come back home to see the only woman I want in my life, where I know she’s “the one”. I had enough fucking all those sluts out there already, more than enough.”, an excerpt of the conversation was heard from Edison, exasperated and expressing his heartfelt feelings.
However, just before Nicholas Tse could continue with his part of the conversation, Gillian came crashing down the stairs, her face embodying an ominous look.
“E-e-ed? Can I sp-peak to y-ou in private for a mom-ment? Pl-ease?” Her voice cracked as she began to speak, as though if she was faced with a critical situation, her face as white as a ghost.
Edison turned to his buddy, signaling Nicholas to give him a few minutes of private time while they made their way up to the bedroom.
“Ed-d,”, she began to speak, afraid of his reactions. “ I know what I’m going to request for will make you upset, or even angry, but you can do anything you want to me, anything! As long as you allow me to visit Ah Sa at the hospital, anything!” She began sobbing loudly, uncontrollably. Ah Sa, or Charlene, had been her best-est friend since kids and like a sister to her. Now that she was admitted into the hospital, it was only normal that she wanted to visit her.
“I know you have this thing against me and socializing but please!” she cried even louder, not sure of what he might do. She had indeed defied his orders about socializing and keeping in contact with certain characters, and yet how selfish he may be, she was in no position to comment on his decisions, because she was bought, or rather, a possession.
He lifted up his hand slowly as she expected a tight slap across her face. But she was well-prepared for that pain; she knew she had to try anything just to see Ah Sa. Yet, instead of a stinging pain that was supposed to leave a red ugly mark on her face, all she felt was a light, soft touch on her cheeks.
“Don’t cry.”, he continued to use his thumb, wiping the teardrops away one by one. “It hurts my heart... Go get changed and I’ll drive you there.” He looked into her eyes, one filled with fear and anguish, and tried to give her assurance.
She nodded, surprised at his reactions and his patience. How could she not love this man?
-----
“Charlene! Are you alright? I was so worried!” again, she began sobbing, after the wave of fear that had been thrown at her earlier, Gillian was rather relieved to even find her alive.
“Y-es, I am.” Charlene weakly answered, obviously tired from the harsh working environments she was facing.
As the best friends were deep in conversation, Edison was sitting on one of the arm chairs around, thinking. Had he been ill-treating Gillian the past few years? His cold-hearted and dearth of empathy could very well be the reason for it. Then again, why and how was he morphing into someone different right now?
“Mr. – Ch-en”, Charlene had weakly called out, trying to obtain a little attention from the dashing man deep in thought.
“Just call me Ed.”, he replied harshly. Even though he was a changed man to a certain someone, he was still the same old Edison to others. Harsh and cold.
“I- just wanted-………….”
-----
The car journey back was an awkward one, one where silences and intimidation were felt. Neither one of them new what would happen next, especially Gillian. Even though he had been gentle to her earlier, god knows what was he actually thinking? And that was a distinct feature of Edison Chen. He was unpredictable, so erratic, yet so attractive.
On the other hand, buried in his mind were the words of her closest friend. A peasant he would look down on, one he would not give respect, one to be classified as the low-born of the society, had actually allowed him to see the light. Gillian had actually raved about him to be a good-natured and amiable man, a man showering her with care and treating her right, something she had never felt before to her sworn sister. Lies were they, he knew. All the more he could see the pain she felt for the past few years, the feelings and hurt she had bottled up over his beastly ways and her deprivation of pride. He felt upset and disconcerted. In a fit of anger, he banged his fist on the steering wheel, venting all his anger and indignation on to the innocent wheel, causing his wife on the passenger seat to suffer a shock.
“Ed! I know you’re angry! Just say it would you? And stop being such a wuss! I’m begging you! I can take this no longer!” she cried and sobbed. If it were the past, she knew she wouldn’t have cried over such a matter, but instead take glee in his fuming. But right now, she could no longer do so, as she loved him. She couldn’t bear for him to be angry with her, and taking it out on himself.
He jerked and parked the car in one corner. Slowly, he turned to her, staring deep into her beautiful eyes, as once again he wiped away the teardrops on her cheeks.
“Look into my eyes.”, he said, confidently, wanting to show the amount of sincerity in his words.
“Look into my eyes, I said. Gillian Chung Yan Tung, I am not angry with you. Never would I be, because I am madly in love with you, you hear me? If you didn’t, I am repeating it once again. I am madly in love with you!” he stressed, voice louder by the second as his face showed how serious he was for the very first time in love, hands grabbing her shoulders tightly, as if he was afraid to lose her.
“E-d..?” she weakly answered, shocked and stupefied for a moment.
“You’re right, Gillian. I AM a wuss, I really am. I have been a bastard for 3 years, blind to see what’s right and what’s wrong. For that, I don’t deserve to live, I don’t! But I don’t want to die now.” He continued, as she looked up to him waiting to hear the reason.
“Because I want to spend my remaining days with you, and make it up to you, and the baby.”, Edison’s face beamed with candor, hoping that she would give him a satisfiable answer.
Speechless she was, but she knew her answer. She nodded her head as he embraced her into his arms, tightly, never wanting to let her go.
Even though no words were exchanged, their actions said it all. They were so in love with each other, despite their harsh exchanges in the past, they had still fallen in love with each other. That’s what love was all about, wasn’t it? The present, and the future, working together to make it beautiful. The past are memories, the building blocks.
As they let go of each other, they continued with an affectionate kiss. Even though it was the middle of winter, the kiss was warm, sweet, and full of emotions, definitely one to remember. As the wind blew with harder, their kisses deepened with it, adding passion and aggressiveness…

Hello everyone :)
This chapter took a good 9 hours to type out to perfection! Hope it’s a great gift to all the EG fans out there, might be one of the more romantic chapters so far in this story. Please tell me how you like it? Do you prefer these, or the darker chapters with more sadness and sorrow? Lol. I would really appreciate more comments on the reception of this chapter! So I would know how the next chapter should be like. Thank you everyone and good night :)
