Their flight arrived Toronto close to 1am in the morning. Addy was laying on Don’s arm most of the flight over. When the landing was complete, he nudged her carefully “Wake up.”
Addy popped her eyes open as she looked around alert at everything “We’re here?”
Don laughed “Something like that.” She looked funny with her eyes wide open and the way she looked around like a prowler made it the more hilarious.
She glared at him evilly “What’s so funny?”
“Nothing.” He turned away with a grin.
“Tell me.” She said it in a threatening voice.
His grin grew wider “Your face.”
She pushed at him as he laughed harder “Jerk!” she muttered before getting off the plain while her bodyguards got her luggage.
Don shook his head when they were in the airport “Just one girl and three large suitcases? Why do you need so much stuff?”
Addy narrowed her eyes at the smart mouth guy “One suitcase is full of torture equipment…one is full of weapons and the third one has my clothes.”
“What are you doing with torture weapons?” he asked curiously.
She giggled mischievously “You’ll find out later.”
He shivered at the look she gave him but quickly brushed it off “So where to?”
“Johnny’s” Addy said calmly as they headed to the exit.
“Who’s Johnny?” Don asked.
She rolled her eyes annoyingly “It’s a bar, stupid.”
“Don’t call me stupid.” He warned.
“Okay, dork.” Addy smirked.
Don shook his head “Are you ever gonna grow up?”
She shrugged carelessly as a cab was called for her. She got in with Don and the head bodyguard “Are you ever gonna shut up?” she asked Don.
He laughed “No, the doctor said it’s not good if I don’t talk. I might go mute.”
“Who said it’s a bad thing?” Addy snapped. She turned away and crossed her legs as she pushed her body against the side door.
When the group reached Johnny’s, Addy frowned “I don’t remember it looking like this.” She whispered more to herself as they entered the bar. She noticed people were smoking other stuff besides cigarettes. Not to mention the hookers that surrounded the place like bees around honey.
Her eyes landed on the bartender whom she did not recognize. All the workers have changed? But there was no Mel around. Don looked around casually “So where is this Mel guy?”
Addy shook her head cautiously “I’m not sure, but I have a feeling it’s not a good thing.” Her instincts told her to leave “Let’s get out of here.” She turned and saw Luke walking in with his boys. A girl was on his arms and she didn’t look too happy either.
“Well, well, well, look what the cat shit let in.” Luke snarled. Suddenly the whole bar quieted down at the sound of Luke’s voice. A group of the men surrounded the unwelcomed guests.
Addy remained calm eventhough her heart was racing “You’re shit.” She spat harshly.
Luke found it amusing as he threw his head back with a laugh “I’m shit?!” he asked loudly while a couple of guys snickered “You don’t know who you’re talking to, little girl.” He pointed to the people around “This is MY bar…if you’re going to give me some business then you’re welcome but if you’re not, I suggest you crawl the fuck back to your daddy.”
Don has never met someone with such a huge ego before. He smiled crookedly “Sorry, we accidentally walked into a shit hole. Come on…” he nodded to Addy as they tried to walk out coolly.
Luke nodded without turning to them “You have 10 seconds.”
Addy was about to turn but Don knew better as he grabbed her hand “No…come on.” He quickened his pace as he pulled her by the hand.
She struggled to free herself “What is wrong with you? I’m not afraid of him!”
Don glanced at the door but continued to walk faster “I’m not either but he’s got a fuckin’ army in there!” he pointed at the guys coming out of the bar after them. “Run!” he pulled at Addy as they raced towards the street while her bodyguards stayed back to take the fight.
Addy and Don ran to a portion where there were more people. When they began to blend in with the crowd, her finally let her go “What should we do?” Addy was beginning to worry for her own safety when her bodyguards were no where in sight. Suddenly they were important to her since she realized Don would not be able to protect the both of them.
“Is there any place we can hide?” he asked with his eyes darting behind her.
She searched her mind and suddenly nodded “I know, there’s this apartment that we bought over, it’s a safe place. No one’s ever found it before.”
Don nodded “What are you waiting for, come on…we have to get out of this section before they find us!” she nodded as she tried to search for the address in her wallet. She pulled out a card with an address scribbled on there “Can you find this place?”
He skim through the address and instantly knew they would need to take the subway uptown “Come on.” He pulled her along until they reached the subway.
When they got to the apartment, Don looked like a madman searching around for anyone that might be spying on them. Addy rolled her eyes as she pulled the spare key from the under the welcome mat “Would you stop that?!” she cried when he backed into her.
“I think I saw someone. Hurry!!” he rushed her.
Addy shook her head as she opened the door with ease and Don quickly slammed the door shut “What is the matter with you?” she asked.
Don reached over and covered her mouth “SHhh!! I hear someone.” And sure enough there were muffled voices outside the door. Addy widened her eyes while Don arched his ears to listen to the conversation.
“I think they’re in here….” A voice said clearly before the door to their apartment was knocked on.
Addy turned to Don with scared eyes and he shook his head indicating not to answer. “There’s no one in there!” another voice argued.
“I’m sure it’s here.” The guy was convinced.
“Siu Jei?” the other guy whispered softly.
Addy sighed as she pulled away from Don and opened the door. Her head bodyguard was standing there with another guy who was badly bruised. “What happened?”
The two entered the place and Don quickly closed the door “We barely escaped.” The injured guy said.
“Where are the others?” Addy asked as she prepared for the worse.
The head guy shook his head sadly “We couldn’t get to them in time. They’re either being tortured or were killed.”
Addy let out a sigh “Oh my God…I can’t imagine what happened to Mel Gor. Do we have any leads at all?”
The guy frowned “I’m afraid not. We tried to contact them from Hong Kong. Must have been a brutal fight…” he only suspected the worse.
Don looked at them thoughtfully “There’s not a place where you guys meet up to contact each other?”
Addy looked at her bodyguard for an answer. He ruffled his brows “We normally go to the bars which are owned by Red Dragon. Johnny’s was one of the oldest ones that we’ve had. I can’t imagine the other 7 would still be around. The Tigers move pretty fast over our property.”
She was distraught suddenly “Now what?”
Don frowned “Well you better wish this Mel guy is still alive, if not we won’t get out of Toronto alive.”
Addy flicked an eyebrow upwards “Don’t be so dramatic.”
The head bodyguard shook his head “It’s true Siu Jei. Our lives are in danger as we speak. Luke has taken over, his men will be everywhere, especially the airports. It’ll take a miracle for us to get out of here now.”
“Can’t we call daddy?” Addy asked desperately. She didn’t want to be stuck there.
“The more guys Cheung Gor sends, the more Luke will bring back with him.” Don said logically.
She combed her fingers through her hair with frustration “What are we going to do? Sit here and wait for them to find us? I’m not going down without a fight.” She shook her head firmly.
Don turned to her with a thoughtful expression “Maybe we don’t have to…” he smiled shortly. He had a plan but he wasn’t positive it would work. “Let’s go to sleep first and then I’ll tell you about it tomorrow.”
Addy widened her eyes “There’s only one room!”
Don shrugged “So?”
“You guys sleep outside.” She pointed to the one couch.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Siu Jei.” The head bodyguard spoke up. She gave him a questioning gaze as he continued “If they happen to find us, they could sneak through the window of the room. We’re only on the third floor.”
She shivered at the thought of being attacked in her sleep “Fine, you sleep on the floor in the room then.”
The guy smiled apologetically “I have a back problem, I have to sleep on the couch.”
Addy looked at her injured bodyguard “And you?”
“I don’t want to take the responsibility if anything happened to you.” He shook his head also.
Don crossed his arm with a winning smile, he was the last candidate. Addy shrugged carelessly “Oh well, I guess I’ll take my chances.” She turned to walk away.
“You didn’t ask me.” Don proclaimed.
She tilted her head amusingly “That’s right.”
“Siu Jei, just let him stay in the room. I think he’s capable of protecting you considering the fact that he acted fast earlier.” The guy spoke up in Don’s defense.
Addy laughed “You mean he was so scared he almost peed in his pants.”
Don frowned “Fine, laugh all you want. But when those guys crawl through the window and God knows what they’ll do to you…don’t come crying to me.”
She shivered again “Fine, fine. You win…don’t you dare try any funny stuff.” She pointed at him threateningly.
“I wouldn’t dream of it.” Don said slyly with a grin.
“I mean it.” She said firmly but his grin only grew bigger.
