When Kathy, Addy and Don reached the house, Kathy noticed more cars where there than normal “You guys have guest?” she asked Addy.

The girl looked confused as she shrugged “I don’t know.”

They walked inside the house and to their shock, they found Gary sitting with Cheung Gor talking and laughing. There was another facing the back to Kathy that she didn’t not recognize “Speak of the devil!” Cheung Gor laughed humorously as he nodded to Kathy, Addy and Don to come in. “I have some great news!”

“What is it daddy?” Addy asked when she walked around the couch and noticed the mysterious person, she let out loud gasp and covered her mouth. Her eyes widened as they turned to her dad “Why is he here?”

Phil stood up and nodded politely “It’s nice to see you too.”

Kathy walked towards them with a confused expression “I don’t understand….”

Cheung Gor laughed loudly “Of course you don’t. Let me introduce you all. This is Lieutenant Philip Liu from the FBI headquarters. He goes by the name of Phil when he was working undercover for the police. Lieutenant Gary Chan, which you all know, have been contacting Phil for the past few months. With their help, they’ve dug up every bad thing that Luke’s been doing for the past five years. He’ll be in there for good.”

Kathy shook her head “I don’t get it. So the cops were helping out the triad all along?”

Philip smiled “I think you are a little on the right track. The police know that they cannot control the Triad gangs, but they can control the operations. By forming a pack with the most powerful gang, they are able to keep the killings and war at a minimum. Because the Triad society helps build our economy with money and tourist pleasures, we cannot fully destroy them. All we do is take out the bad eggs and help the good eggs.”

Addy nodded finally understanding it all, it was a complex idea but she wasn’t dumb enough not to get it “Wow…that’s really deep.”

“What does this have to do with me?” Kathy asked curiously.

Cheung Gor nodded “It does very much. Philip was the last person that saw Mel. Don’t you want to know what had happened?”

Kathy shook her head lightly “If he is still gone, I don’t want to hear anything.”

Philip nodded sympathetically “I understand his loss was a great downfall for you. But you must be proud of what he did. After Luke pushed us off the cliff, we both stumbled down the rocky ground. There were enough cuts and bruises to paralyze us. But Mel would not hear of it. He pulled me up and took me to a nearby village where they helped me. When I realized my cop badge had fallen out, he ran back to the place to get it for me. His wounds were deeper than mine and when he didn’t return, I knew he was gone. Mel Lam no longer exist and I’m glad you have come into terms with it.”

Kathy’s eyes dripped a few drops of tears listening to Mel’s last minute alive “He’s always so brave.”

Cheung Gor nodded “He’s a noble person, the Red Dragon is lucky to have such a loyal person. But I want to have a word with you, Kathy.” He took her arm and led her to the library.

When they were behind closed doors, she turned to him with a smile “What is it, Cheung Gor?”

The man was getting older by the month, his eyes were completely wrinkled when he smiled “Mel often spoke about you to me. At first, I was against your relationship but the more he spoke about you, the more I grew fond of you without knowing you. I know he loved you very much, from the moment he met you to his last breath. A lot of people don’t know this but Mel saved his money very well, he had a bank account with about 2 million dollars saved up from his jobs and rewards that I gave him. He never asked for anything and never did he buy anything for himself. The beneficiary of his account is you.”

Kathy let out a short gasp, shocked that he would leave all the money “But why??” she whispered.

“Isn’t it obvious? He loves you that much. Mel never cared much for money. But he always said if he got married one day, he would want the love of his life to live comfortably. He knew the triad life would eventually kill him and he never imagined that he would find you, the love of his life.” Cheung Gor smiled again “He would have wanted you to have it. He mentioned before that you said you loved Toronto.”

Kathy wiped a tear away as she nodded slowly “That’s where we first met.”

“He bought a home out there for you.” He advised.

She widened her eyes in shock “How come he never told me all this?”

“It was a surprise. He told me if he were to live, he would take you over there and start a new life. But maybe he was dreaming. Once a triad always a triad. There’s no escaping except for death itself. I guess he succeeded just that.” His profound words of wisdom seem to wake her up again “If you have the time, go over to the home and visit it. I hear it’s a Victorian home.” He winked as he handed her a large yellow envelope with paperwork inside.

“Thank you.” Kathy smiled gratefully.

It was about two months into Luke’s sentence when during visiting hours, he had a visitor. The person did not give a name and Luke was almost curious to know who it might have been. He accepted the visitor’s request and headed out to the glass booths where the prisoner and visitor were separated. Their only connection was a phone on each side to help them communicate.

Luke saw a guy in a black hood, black cap and black sunglasses staring across the way. He noticed the guy had a scarred face. He picked up the phone curiously “Who the fuck are you?”

The mysterious guy only grinned crookedly as he cradled the phone on his shoulder with amusement “Your worst fuckin nightmare….” The guy reached up and pulled of his sunglasses.

Luke almost fell out of his chair as his face went pale and he moved back, still he was unable to believe what he was looking at “No…it can’t be. They said you were dead.”

“Well…I guess I’m a ghost then.” He smiled evilly before putting back his sunglasses.

“What do… you ..want …from ..me?” Luke stuttered.

The guy laughed “Payback’s a bitch…so that makes me the ultimate bitch!” he spat angrily “Oh, by the way….I have a few friends in there that will give you a welcome you will never forget.”

“Fuck you!!” Luke cried out fearfully. His hands were shaking at that time, yet he could not pull his eyes from the guy in front of him.

“I hear you liked to be fucked….” The guy grinned the same menacing grin “How do you liked being fucked by 10 large guys? That’s for Janet….and after the show…there will be quite the encore with a few stabbings…that’s for Wong.” Luke’s face was colorless as he looked around for help. “Uh uh uh…no no…don’t think someone’s going to save you. You’re not getting away, fucker.” He said darkly.

Luke eventually threw the phone down as he raced out of the room, his mind was spinning as he could still hear his laughter ringing in his ears. He returned to his bunk bed and crawled inside. His eyes moved around like a madman as he looked for his attackers. When he finally convinced himself that the guy was just trying to scare him, he let his guard down. That night, while they ate dinner. Luke was called into his shared cell by the policeman standing guard.

He stood in his cell and looked around “Why am I here?” he asked the officer on guard.

The officer only grinned “You’ll see.” He turned and walked out of the cell, locking it behind him as he walked away instead of standing guard.

Luke had an erie feeling as he turned and found ten guys waking up from their bunk beds. They got off and walked closer to Luke. That night, everyone could hear cries coming from the cell. A horrid cry from a man being raped and stabbed to death. His death was covered by an ‘accident’ report and it was to be put away, never to be researched again.

Kathy decided to visit the home Mel left for her after a couple of months from talking to Cheung Gor. She traveled by herself to Toronto. She took a cab there that knew where the home was. When she reached the place, her mouth gaped in awe and she almost forgot to pay the cab driver. Her eyes widened as it looked up at the three story home. It was humongous. Her heart was thumping when she came to the doorstep and opened it with shaky hands. When she was inside, she was again surprised at the furniture filled room. How did he have the time to even buy all the stuff? She was wondering to herself when her eyes laid on a porcelain doll sitting in a china cabinet in the den.

Kathy walked closer as she looked at the doll, it was her. He had it made after her! It was on a stand that was inscripted “Kathy Lau, angel of the day…”. It brought tears to her eyes, the doll was a duplicate of herself, with the tiny facial features to the long flowing hair. It was dressed in a simple top with a flowered print skirt, the same way he always saw her. Next to it was another doll of herself, except this doll was dressed in fishnet stockings, a short mini and a tube red top. The black boots gave it a real effect, this inscription read “Katie, brat of the night”. She giggled at the print.

When she turned, her smile faded instantly. The person stared at her intently with his warm brown eyes. He was even more handsome than she last saw him. Her eyes brimming with tears as a smile came over her lips “A normal person would find those dolls almost psychotically obsessive…but not Katie…she smiles instead.” He walked closer to her until they were inches apart.

“You’re nuts, Mel.” Kathy whispered while a tear dripped from her cheek onto the ground.

Mel shook his head “I’m not Mel.” She tilted her head and he smiled “My name is Mark Lam. Born and raised in Toronto. I came from a single parent home, with three sisters, me being the youngest. I am an art director at the popular Magazine company ‘Bizzarrre’.” He concluded with a grin. “The police decided to let me off the hook when I saved one of their men. I’m sure you know now.”

She nodded, finally understanding why everyone kept telling her that Mel Lam no longer existed “So, who’s body was I looking at?”

Mel laughed as he placed an arm around her shoulder and began leading her up the stairs while he explained. “Do you remember years ago when Roach and Wong came up with a joke to play on you? The fake arm and blood?” Kathy nodded as they reached the second story and continued to the third “Apparently that makeup artist can make a complete replica of another person. I paid a good amount, but it was worth it.” He gave her a slight wink as he stopped in front of the master bedroom.

Kathy smiled as she shook her head, unable to comprehend the whole thing “It feels like a dream.”

He laughed as he hugged her closer, one hand on the door. Mel leaned down gently as he kissed her ever so softly on the lips. Her eyes were closed when he pulled away “Wanna see the bedroom?” he chuckled when she turned away shyly. He opened the door and appeared a strong fragrance of Vanilla, one of her favorite scents. She raised her eyebrows at the hundred of candles lit inside the room. He let her walk in and take in the view.

“You just want to get me in bed…” Kathy giggled.

Mel smiled seductively before closing the door “Is it working?” he asked.

She turned away coyly “Maybe.”

He stepped closer to her “Let me try harder….” He leaned down and kissed her passionately on the lips.

The two love birds finally returned to Hong Kong after enjoying their peaceful time in their new home. They came back to say their final goodbyes. The first place they visited was Cheung Gor’s place. Addy was the one to open the door when they rang the bell. She swung it open and instantly threw her arms around Mel’s neck “Mel Gor!!! I can’t believe it’s really you!!” she pinched his face adoringly while Kathy grinned from ear to ear.

Mel pushed Addy away with a laugh “I’m not Mel Gor…I’m Mark Lam.” He nodded firmly with a twinkle in his eye.

Don stood from the back as he laughed at Addy “What a moron.” He muttered.

Addy spun around angrily “Idiot.”

“Dorkette…” Don said with a chuckle as he took a step closer to Addy.

Addy walked closer “Stupid.”

They were inches apart when Don snarled “Bitch…”

Kathy and Mel exchanged glances as they expected the two to continue their bickering. Instead to their shock, the two of them began kissing hungrily like there was no tomorrow. When they finally pulled apart, Addy had a dazed expression on her face. She looked kinda drugged but yet strangely happy. Kathy laughed “I take it you two got laid?”

Mel wrinkled his nose with disgust “I kinda liked them before. Now they make me want to hurl….”

Kathy laughed and Mel quickly joined in while Addy and Don raised an eyebrow at the two. When the four heard a hearty laughter behind them. They turned in time to see Cheung Gor smiling at them. “Well come on in. Dinner’s almost ready.” He came over and hugged Mel warmly “Glad your back…Mark.”

Mel smiled “So you heard….” He put an arm around Kathy as they all walked into the house, happy the drama was finally over. Now their lives would be able to continue as normal.
