Chapter 25

Limo Ride

The night of the convention soon came up and the group met at the Yungs’ to go together in the white limo Ben ordered for them. Ivy was in the room with the towel still over her head and she was seated on her bed with a magazine in her hands. Vicki and Tara were scrambling to get their hair and makeup done. Vicki was wearing jeans and a t-shirt with a curling iron in her hand when she turned to Ivy with exasperation “Ivy! What are you doing still reading? We have to leave in 30 minutes!”

Ivy looked up calmly “I only need 15 minutes. I could even take a quick nap.”

“What?!!” Vicki cried as she pointed to her friend with the curling iron “Your hair isn’t even dried! How do you expect to be ready?”

Ivy licked her finger to turn the page before reaching up and took off the towel showing her hair was dried and straightened “She showered this morning.” Tara walked out of the closet in her lace pink spaghetti strap dress.

“How did you know?” Ivy asked curiously.

“I called Ty this morning and he was screaming for you to hurry up with the shower.” Tara explained. Her hair was twisted in diagonal rolls and the ends were spiked in different directions. She spun in a circle and curtsied “How do I look?”

Ivy rolled her eyes “Like a girl. Anyways, you should be asking Ty. He’ll probably cry…” she mimicked Tyler’s emotional face “Ohh…you look sooo boo-ti-full.” Her acting made Vicki laughed, who was looking at her through the reflection.

Tara shook her head at Ivy “You’re going to leave your hair like that?”

“What’s wrong with it?” she asked finally tearing herself away from the magazine.

“It’s a little plain don’t you think?” Tara asked carefully “If you don’t mind, I can help you with your hair.”

Ivy seemed to be pondering the idea and after a few seconds she looked up at Tara “Yes…yes I do mind.”

Vicki let out a snort “Just leave her alone Tara. She doesn’t care how she looks. She likes being teased and pointed at by other people.” Ivy tilted her head at Vicki and she quickly added “I’m right and you know it. When everyone will have salon hair, you will look like you just jumped out of the shower.”

“I hate it when you’re right.” She leered her eyes and pushed herself off the bed and dragged herself over to Tara “Please, be gentle. It’s my first time.”

“Second and stop being so dramatic.” Tara teased she motioned for Ivy to sit down on a little stool and began working with her hair. She used the iron to curl the long locks outward. Her bangs looked like an ocean wave and her hair was pulled halfway up and pinned with a beautiful crystal clip.

Vicki was changed into her olive green gown and a matching flowered bow that held her hair together at the nape of her neck. She glanced up and did a double take on Ivy “Wow…” she sighed “Tara, you really are talented. Now can you do something about her face?”

“No, this is how my mother intended me to look!” Ivy objected.

“Just a little makeup?” Tara tried while she beamed at Vicki’s compliment “I promise, you won’t look overly made up.”

“I know I’m going to regret this, but okay…” Ivy reluctantly turned to face Tara. The girl had magical fingers as she put on cover-up to lipstick as well as a little blush. Within 10 minutes she was done “There!” Tara dabbed on the final layer of mascara “With 10 more minutes to spare.” She was proud of herself.

Ivy turned to Vicki “How is it?”

Vicki had a hand covering her face “You…you look so …beautiful.” Her eyes easily tear up.

“Say that ‘b’ word one more time and I’ll really give you something to cry about.” Ivy pointed at Vicki threateningly. She smiled slowly and got up to hug her “Thank you.” She said with sincerity.

“Why?” Vicki asked.

Ivy shrugged “For being my friend. I never made a friend longer than a month but you made my 8 month mark…its something to be commendable about.”

Vicki’s lips quivered as she began fanning her eyes “Stop…my makeup!”

Ivy turned to Tara “Thank you.” She reached out to touch her arm “When I become famous one day, I want you to be my personal makeup and hair assistant.”

Tara opened her mouth in shock “Really?” she breathed “Oh my God…thank you.”

“That is if I don’t end up punching out some guy for touching me or worse…ask me to dance.” She shivered while Tara laughed.

“Hurry and put on your dress!!” Vicki rushed after touching up her eyes.

“What’s the hurry? I’ve got 5 minutes.” Ivy was ready to return to the bed but Vicki and Tara wouldn’t have it that way as they linked one arm through Ivy’s and dragged her to the closet.

“NO!!!! NO!!!!” Ivy wailed painfully “Don’t….please!!! NO!!!”

Suddenly, the room door was being pounded on “Ivy!! Are you okay?” Ben’s voice yelled through the wailing.

The girls glanced at each other and began laughing. Ben shook his head as he walked back out into the living room and straightened his bow tie. His suit was a sharp black and gray colored that made him look like a star himself. Tyler on the other hand had on a tan colored suit and a dark brown shirt and matching tie. He cruised out from his room with one hand in his pocket. His face was solemn as he took the catwalk seriously. Tyler stopped in front of the smiling Ben “How do I look?”

“Like you’re ready to make teenage girls cry.” Ben clapped his hand “You look great. Well done.”

He gleamed with smiles “Are we ready to go?”

Ben shook his head “They’re not call women if they’re not fashionably late.”

“Actually, we have exactly 52 seconds.” Ivy’s voice broke into their conversation. The guys looked up and she nodded politely.

Ben stood up slowly as he looked at her from head to toe. She had on a beautiful silk red dress with one strap that trailed over her right shoulder. Sequins were sewed by hand at the seams. A slit trailed up to her thigh and her matching red shoes gave her definite height. Her hair was a perfect blend of curls and the wave on her bangs were adorable. Tyler was looking at Ben who seemed breathless by his sister’s beauty. He whistled “I think I speak for Ben when I say ‘Wow!’ huh?” he nudged Ben on the rib.

He shook his head back to reality “Oh…uh…yeah. You look amazing.” He complimented Ivy.

She let out a sigh “Okay, there I did it. I had to bite my tongue but I did it. Are you girls happy now?” she turned to the hall and appeared Vicki and Tara.

This time it was Tyler who was speechless as he looked at his new girlfriend up and down “You look like…an angel.” He whispered while reaching out for her hand.

Tara curtsied and took his ready hand as he rolled her into his arms. Ivy looked ready to hurl as she covered her mouth and nodded at Vicki “Remind me to stay far away from them two.”

Ben clapped his hand twice to get their attention “Okay gang, it’s time to go! The limo awaits.” He bent over halfway and his hand was abroad while waving to the door “Shall we ladies?”

Tyler began walking and Ivy was quick to whip him back “Uh uh boy, you’re in a suit, you can’t be a lady today. Tara, you go first.” She nodded.

He spun around to Ben and pointed to Ivy “You’re going to let act like that?”

“It’s okay as long as we haven’t stepped foot into the party. Just let her get it out of her system.” Ben advised.

“Aww…that’s oddly sweet.” Ivy frowned. Her eyes snapped wide open “Did I just say the ‘S’ word?” she asked looking shocked.

“I’m afraid you did.” Vicki nodded sadly “Honey, I think the dress is turning you into a girl.”

“Either that or she’s possessed.” Tyler quipped.

The limo ride was fun for Ivy when she discovered the bottle of ready tequila “Oooh…come here baby…momma’s calling.” She gushed and made herself a drink.

Ben sat next to her as he readily grabbed the drink from her hand before it even touched her lips and handed it to Tyler, who was on his other side “Ivy, no drinking in the limo. There is an open bar, remember?”

“And this one isn’t open?!!” Ivy asked incredulously.

“I told you, I don’t want you to get drunk before we even get there.” Ben explained patiently.

Ivy flared her nose at him “You just don’t want me to have any fun!” she crossed her arms and turned away and then her eye caught onto the car next to her “Oh crap. Vicki!” She turned her head to her friend with a sneaky smile “It’s Mr. Perfect.” Her voice sang teasingly.

“No way!!” Vicki pushed Ben out of the way as she climbed onto the seat next to Ivy and pressed her face on the window “Where? I don’t see him!”

It was Ivy’s laugh that made her realize it was just another joke “You should have seen your face!” she pointed at Vicki with a laugh “You think you are so lucky to meet him again? Girl, you need to wake up and smell my feet. It’s over, he’s not appearing anymore.”

Vicki frowned “I don’t believe it. I’ll see him again.” She said firmly “I’m very confident.”

“And I’m confident you’ll end up being an old maid if you keep lusting over this guy that you’ll never see again.” Ivy rolled her eyes.

“He’s not THAT cute.” Tyler snickered.

“No, not compared to you.” Ivy said with sarcasm.
