“Maybe.” Anesa played the coy card with perfection.
“Interested?” Anton question coolly.
“Possibly.” She replied, her red lips curling upwards.
“How about a drink?” he asked politely.
Anesa held up her drink “Got one.”
“I meant after you finish that one.” He chuckled.
Suddenly, she turned her head towards the door and let out a sharp whistle “Hey!” she waved for him to come over. Travis nodded and approached the table “Okay, spit it up, two hundred big ones.” She placed her palm up to his face.
“Shit, what the hell are you wearing?” he looked at his normally tomboyish friend in a red killer dress “I had no idea you had legs.” He lifted her skirt only to be smacked in the hand roughly.
“Don’t change the subject, I got one.” She threw her thumb at Anson, who looked to be in shock and embarrassed at the same time.
Travis was defeated as he pulled out his wallet and gave her two hundred dollar bills “Don’t you know it’s not good to pick up women at bars? All they want is a one night stand…” then his eyes lit up “So, how about it? My friend hasn’t gotten laid in years!” He practically pushed Anesa into Anson’s lap.
“Wooh…I only wanted to buy the pretty lady a drink. Nothing else.” Anson raised his hands in defense and stood up.
“Is that all?” Anesa asked as she gulped down more than half of her full cup of mixed alcohol “Ah…done. I would like a beer, please.” She smiled happily.
Scratching his head, he wondered why he even bothered to pick up women, he had the worst luck “One beer please.” He said to the bartender. It was then that he felt a hard tap on his shoulder, he turned to a grinning face “Hey.” He greeted without much feeling.
“Wow…who died?” Kyle asked his long time roommate.
“Is it stupid of me to think that I would find the perfect woman in a place like this?” Anson asked.
Kyle’s face fell while Anson burst out laughing, “Don’t start with me. I’ve had enough of that in one day. And where were you when I needed you? Clear across the room.”
Anson laughed, “I told you before that I didn’t want anyone to know that we know each other. It would ruin my chances to run for Mayor. What kind of political figure makes friends with models?”
“Are you still on that?!” Kyle asked in shock “Don’t you get in and out of your little phases quickly? This has been going on for weeks and I’m starting to get really sick of those stupid posters you have all over the apartment.”
Taking the beer from the bartender, he turned to his friend “How many times do I have to tell you? It’s not a phase. I really am serious about this.”
“Who’s the beer for?” Kyle suddenly noticed he had one too many drinks in his hand.
“That girl.” He nodded towards the table where the girl in red had released her feet of her shoes and sat indian style in her chair. Playing the fingers game with Travis.
“The demon?!” Kyle hissed as he tried to hide behind his glass of chardonnay.
Anson looked at his friend strangely “Yes, that will hide your face.” He said with sarcasm “What’s the matter with you?”
“She is a demon in disguise. Come on, let’s go before she sees us!” Kyle quickly pushed his friend away.
After losing five times in a row, Anesa looked up to find Anson “Where’s my beer?”
Travis laughed “You probably scared him away. You aint getting your beer.”
“Damn it!” Anesa cursed, “I was looking forward to one too.”
Rolling his eyes, he nodded “I get the point.” Getting up, he fetched them a few bottles of beers as they continued to play the fingers game.
Kyle snuck from behind the menu at a distant table “I don’t think she saw me.”
Anson took the ridiculous menu and slapped it on the table “You’re acting like a freak. So, who’s the girl? Some one night stand again?”
“Worse, ex-girlfriend.” Kyle whispered even though he didn’t need to.
“Really?” Anson was suddenly of interest “You only had two in your lifetime.” He recalled the story well “So, what happened? When was it? Who broke up with whom?”
“Are you sure you’re not a reporter?” Kyle snickered “It was back in high school, I was young and naïve. She took away my virginity. I had never dated before and was played to believe that I was to be with one woman my whole life. Well, we all know that isn’t true.”
Anson nodded with a laugh “So, she raped you?”
“No! Well…she practically did. She was so aggressive…at first I thought cool, I get to lose my virginity at 17 but then it was all weird and stuff. I thought for sure I’d turn gay from that experience. Lucky for me, I got out before it was too late.”
“So you broke up with her?” he questioned before taking a drink.
“Well…not exactly.” Kyle began, earning a wide eyed look from his friend “I just moved out after high school and changed my cell phone number.”
“And you didn’t tell her?” Anson asked in shock.
“Hell, I was scared!” Kyle said in his own defense.
“Man, you got problems. Worse than Miss Cheng.” Anson laughed with a shaking head.
Kyle rolled his eyes away and stopped upon two girls dancing on the floor, looking very close “Speaking of which…” he nodded towards the girls “Look what we have here.”
“Two girls dancing.” Anson shrugged slightly “It doesn’t mean they’re lesbians.” He rolled his eyes after Kyle “When did you become so close mind—”
“Shut up!” Kyle snapped “It’s her…Billie…Miss Cheng.” He hissed while twisting Anson’s face towards the oblivious girls. They looked to be having fun.
His expression changed “Yeah…that is her.” The guys watched as two men attempted to squeeze in to dance with them. Anson raised his brows after Billie swiftly moved away, grabbing the pretty tall girl by the hand “Maybe they’re best friends?”
“Believe me, I’ve never seen two girls so chummy without having a…history.” Kyle winked.
“Do that again and I’ll think you’re gay.” Anson pointed out “Look, she seems to have her head on straight, I mean she’s teaching a class and she’s educated. I don’t think she’s gay.” He said surely.
Kyle narrowed his eyes strangely and slowly his eyes bulged out “Oh my God, you have a crush on our teacher!”
“I do not.” Anson retorted.
“Yes…yes you do. Why are you defending her if you don’t even know her?!” Kyle pointed out.
Anson rolled his eyes “I only defend logic. That’s the first rule to being an authoritative figure.”
“Keep dreaming.” Kyle looked around for the crazy woman but couldn’t find her anywhere “Come on, this place is creeping me out. I have this bad feeling that we’re going to run into the demon.” He finished his drink and pulled his jacket collar up.
“Would you stop freaking out?” Anson sighed tiredly “I’m not done with my drink.”
“Take it togo.” Kyle snapped, “Come on before she sees me.”
“Alright!” Anson cried as he put down a tip and got up. He turned and bumped into someone “I’m sorry.”
“No problem, man.” Travis smiled. He looked over at Kyle and pointed “Hey…Kev…I mean Kyle.” He greeted him with a handshake “I didn’t know you were coming here.”
Kyle nodded briefly “Yeah…Hey…where’s that girl you were with?”
Travis pointed to the restroom “She just went to clear her system. You interested?” he kidded.
“NO!” Kyle was astonished “Of course not!”
“Wooh…it’s okay, I was only kidding. Personally, even if you liked her I wouldn’t let you two date. She’s a handful. Your poor friend almost fell for the bait.” He pointed his thumb at Anson “I’m Travis by the way.”
“Anson.” The two shook hands.
“We have to go. Early working day tomorrow.” Kyle let out a long yawn and stretched his arms “Come on.”
“I’ll see you in class next week!” Travis called after them.
Anesa showed up behind him “Who are you talking to?”
“The little fish that got away.” He joked as he led her to the dance floor “You’ll never guess who I ran into during that Social class tonight.”
“Who?” Anesa asked as she swayed to the music.
“Kevin, remember that friend I told you about in grade school?” Travis triggered her memory.
“Oh, the one that saved you from geek desinty because you guys formed that stupid group…what’s it called? Oh, right…No Girls Allowed.” Anesa nodded “So?”
Travis grinned “He’s a model now and probably single. You interested?”
“Are you trying to get rid of me?” she danced dangerously closer to him.
“Is it that obvious?” Travis laughed as he dipped her, not careful enough since she hit someone’s back on the way down “We’re sorry.” He quickly straightened when he noticed the tall, model like girl in the suit rubbing her back.
“It’s okay.” Ellena replied weakly.
Billie frowned as she spun to the front “Watch it!”
Travis rolled his eyes as he turned to the voice “Look, we apologized—Oh…Miss Cheng.”
“Yes?” Billie arched a brow up as she leaned on one leg.
He was suddenly interested “Fancy seeing you in a BAR.” He emphasized “Looking for that one night stand I see?”
“Grow up! I’m not into men.” Billie retorted and locked her arm around Ellena’s waist “Have a nice night.” Leading her friend away, the two walked out without looking back leaving Travis with a smug smile. He knew what the subject would be for the next class session.
“Who was that?” Ellena asked while she called for a taxi.
“Some freak in my class. I swear, the next semester, I’m going to ask for background checks on everyone.” She briefly told her friend about Kyle too “I had every right to kick them out but they paid for the class so I have to be human…unfortunately.” They got in the taxi and told the driver the apartment address “But it was fun putting that guy on the spot.”
“Were you always this ruthless?” she asked while Billie nodded with a wicked grin. Ellena shook her head “How in the world did we meet?”
“Opposites attract.” Billie winked playfully. She caught the driver’s eye glancing back at them “What are you looking at?!” she snapped.
“I feel sorry for the guy that falls for you.” Ellena sighed.
“Me too.” She blew up with laughter making her friend join in after a few seconds.
