“Okay, spill it.” Erin said when the girls took her to a café restaurant instead of her home. She sensed a pool of questions floating around Mia’s head.

“Erin, we only want to have lunch with you.” Mia said in defense.

She rolled her eyes “Please, I can read you from ten miles away.”

“The radius is getting bigger.” Reina laughed “I think I speak for Mia too. What’s going on with you and Devin.”

“AND Daniel!” Mia added nosily.

“Nothing and nothing.” Erin answered.

Mia sighed “Liar and liar.”

“Are we talking double now?” Reina laughed “But hey, if you say nothing, we have no reason not to—”

Mia was not afraid to disagree “Come on! It’s us, you don’t have to lie Erin. Are you dating the Commander? Is it just to get back at Devin? Is it because of his kid with that his ex girlfriend. Hey, is she the reason why he walks out to the beach every Thursday?”

“Add a tape recorder and she could be a journalist.” Erin laughed with a shaking head. Mia widened her eyes, as if waiting for a real response “Mia, I already answered. Nothing is going on. I am not interested in any guys at this point.”

“That’s all?” Mia asked.

Erin smiled “What else do you want to hear? A real juicy gossip?”

“Yeah, at least make one up for me!” Mia claimed.

Reina and Erin exchanged shaking heads “Oh, what Darren must go through…” Reina sighed sadly.

“I want to go somewhere.” Erin suddenly thought of him.

“Now we’re talking!” Mia began collecting her purse when the food came “Let’s go beat up that third wheel and we’ll take her little boy too.” She cackled viciously, earning a look from the waiter.

“Easy there, Wicked Witch of the West.” Reina pulled her back down “Finish the food first and I don’t think we’re going to beat up the ‘other’ woman.”

Mia looked innocently at the girls “No?” Erin pressed her lips into a tight smile and shook her head “Not even a yank of the hair?” again, Erin shook her head “Or a scratch in the face?”

“Boy, I’d feel sorry for the girl that Darren’s going to cheat on you with.” Reina sipped her orange drink while Erin stifled a laugh.

Turning to her friend exasperatedly “He’s not going to cheat on me.”

“I would if I was him.” Reina said casually.

“He would not!” Mia tossed her fork as it bounced off the table. It landed near Erin’s foot as she bent over to pick it up. At the same time a hand beat her to it.

She looked up at the face “Hey.” Devin greeted.

“Hi.” She smiled.

“Hi Devin!” Mia greeted loudly.

Erin turned to her friend who had an awkward smile plastered on her face “Sorry, Mia is trying to make this as casual as possible. As usual, she can't seem to master it.” She apologized to Devin.

He laughed “It’s okay, it’s not the first day that I met Mia. I’m glad I ran into you girls.” He took a seat “I just got a rush call from Ryan. Sum Gor knows about Doug’s identity. He’s going to use it to bribe Ah Kiu and possibly use it against her since Doug is her toughest bodyguard.”

“Looks like Ah Gam’s idea didn’t work.” Erin sighed.

“Not that it didn’t, but busting his prostitution facilities only put a halt on his search for Doug’s identity. But now that he has the hard evidence, we can’t help but work faster.” Devin said with a solemn expression “I have a feeling Ah Kiu would not be as forgiving.”

“Wait, how did he get the information about Doug? Didn’t we set up a background change for him?” Reina asked.

“There’s a mole.” Devin whispered “Jenna had a talk with Ah Chung last night and he told her about the drug deal in Beijing that Hung Gor use to be involved in. And it was always a smooth deal. He said it with his own words, Hung Gor had a good friend in the force.”

“Wow, she’s good.” Mia complimented “Old or young, she’s got them all wrapped around her little finger.”

Erin shook her head “Don’t say that in front of Ryan.”

“I wouldn’t know where to find him even if I wanted to.” Mia shrugged.

“Good idea.” Devin smiled crookedly.

“Uh oh…what’d I say?” Mia groaned.

“Find them, I want you to pretend to work for the mole and lead Sum Gor to an evacuated building. We’ll pin him there and it’ll put an end to Doug’s identity exposure.” Devin snapped his fingers.

Reina frowned “You mean lie about the undercover work? But that’s dangerous, we don’t even know if there really is a mole? What if this Chung guy is lying?”

“With Jenna’s charm, I doubt any guy would resist her.” Devin said with confidence.

“Still, the mole could be anyone and probably have a code word with Sum Gor. How could we fake to be someone we know nothing about?” Erin shook her head in disagreement “It’s too much risk. I think we should get more info.”

“By that time, this guy will expose Doug, kill Ah Kiu and take everything that isn’t rightfully his.” Devin argued “There is no time to sit around and find answers. We just have to take chances. That’s what this team is about, it’s what the P.R.A. was formed under. Joe took a chance and it worked.”

Mia sighed “Damn, you’re good. Okay…I’ll do it.”

“Mia!” Erin disagreed “I think we should send one of the guys.” She turned hastily to Devin.

“No, a girl is perfect. Someone that looks suspicious, but too suspicious for them not to believe.” Devin had thought it through that morning.

Mia’s eyes moved passed Erin’s shoulder and at the woman carrying a boy that didn’t look older than Bonnie “Third wheel, six o’clock.” She whispered.

“What?” Devin turned to find Janine smiling apologetically at them.

“Sorry, Devin, I forgot my wallet earlier, did you—” she sighed thankfully when he pulled it out of his pocket “Thank God.” She smiled at the girls “Hi.”

“Hi.” Reina smiled politely.

Devin waved Janine closer “Since you’re here, let me introduce. This is Mia.”

“Hello.” Mia smiled weakly.

“Hi.” Janine nodded “We’ve met.”

“Reina.” Devin continued “And this is Erin.”

Erin returned the smile as she got up and reached out a hand “We meet again.”

“Yes.” Janine smiled “This is my son, Ah Ming.”

“Hi.” Erin tilted her head with a smile.

The shy boy curled his head into his mom’s shoulder “Sorry, he’s a little timid.”

“Not a problem.” Erin sat back down and waited for Devin to walk her out to the cab.

“You did good.” Mia commented.

Erin chuckled “I didn’t know I was being graded. There’s no need to make anyone uncomfortable. Anyways, she seems nice.”

“The more reason for you to fight back!” Mia’s bulging eyes made her laugh.

“And if you listen to Mia, you’ll wake up the next morning in some stranger’s bed and paying for breakfast that you didn't eat.” Reina said sarcastically.

“Okay, where were we?” Devin returned as the girls suddenly silenced themselves “You girls were talking about Janine?” they shook her heads simultaneously “I’ll come back when you’re finished.” He began to get up when Erin pulled him back down.

“It’s not important. Go on with your plan.” She nodded.

**************

“Did she buy it?” Ah Kiu asked Ah Chung when they were in the secluded room.

He nodded with wrinkled brows “Yes, I think. But I don’t understand Siu Jei, why did you make me tell the bogus story about the mole cop helping Hung Gor with the drug deals?”

“Prove to Doug that she’s a big traitor.” She snickered.

“Because she was involved with that guy from the Tigers?” Ah Chung had followed the rumors well.

“Yeah, I don’t know what their story is and I don’t care but if she thinks she can stroll in here and claim any guy she wants, then she has something else coming.” Ah Kiu sharpened the edges of her eyes.

Ah Chung was secretly worried for Jenna but wasn’t sure what else he could do to help. He was loyal to Ah Kiu “You think she’ll go ratting to the Tigers about the mole story?”

She nodded in reply “And when she does, Doug will be there to witness the whole conversation.” Her eyes darkened “Hopefully, he’ll realize who truly cares about him.” Her dazed expression disappeared when she remembered another important matter “How about this Commander, Daniel? Did you dig anything on him?”

“No, he’s clean. Except…he’s got a debt with Sum Gor. Quite a large sum but he’s making monthly payments. It's not even his.” Ah Chung crossed his arms “What I’m confused about is why he’s helping this woman that has no relation to him. She’s got a kid with another man.”

“Maybe a past love?” Ah Kiu guessed “Whatever it is, we need to get in contact with Sum Gor. I want to make a deal with him.”

“But Siu Jei, Doug Gor--” Ah Chung lowered his head obediently, when she whipped her daggered eyes at him.

“He’s not to know about this. I don’t want him worrying over every little thing in the gang. He’s got other things on his hands.” She said darkly “Is he still going to that head doctor?”

Ah Chung was hesitant “Bong Chai said he saw him leaving the hospital this morning.”

Ah Kiu flicked a brow upwards “Another girl fallen into his charms. Maybe I’ll pay a visit to this girl.”

“I really don’t—” her hand clamped over her mouth when there was a knock on the door.

“Who’s there?” Ah Kiu asked.

“It’s me.” Doug answered “It’s time to go to the lawyer’s office.”

“Okay!” Ah Kiu pointed to Ah Chung “Not a slip of a word out. I trust you with this.”

He nodded firmly “I won’t let it out.”

They emerged minutes later and Doug standing near the banister, arms crossed “Ready?”

“Yeah, Ah Chung was helping me…eh…pick out an outfit.” Ah Kiu spun in a circle “Do I look presentable?” She pointed to her brown slacks and brown fitting leather jacket.

“Very nice.” Doug nodded as he pointed his head down the stairs “The lincoln is waiting.” He watched as Ah Kiu skipped down the stairs, turning to Ah Chung, he noticed the guy was jittery “Hey, are you two….”

“No!” Ah Chung cried before Doug could finish his thought.

Doug laughed “It’s okay. I think it’s a good idea. She needs a guy.” He winked and patted him on the back.
