The following morning, the girls were up and packed. The guys however had to be dragged out of bed. Devin returned from the restroom as he looked around while the guys packed “Where’s Doug?”
Darren turned to the Head “I don’t know. I haven’t seen him all morning.”
“I thought he was in the stall next to me.” Ryan frowned.
“That was me.” Matt said “Let me go search.” He walked out of the room and looked around the entire temple and even checked the training area but there was no trace of Doug. He returned empty handed “Nothing.”
“Did anyone see him come back after he left last night?” Devin asked. The guys turned to each other and shook their heads.
“I’m sure he’s safe.” Ryan said it more for himself but he was worried inside.
Devin nodded “Well, we can’t miss our flight and we’ve got a few things to handle in Hong Kong. We can’t wait if he doesn’t show up.”
“We can’t leave him here!” Ryan exclaimed.
Darren agreed, “He’s right. All his belongings are here, even his passport.”
“I’ll hand it to the Beijing police, hopefully he’ll know to go there and pick it up.” Devin nodded for the guys to head out. They met up with the girls at the front “Is everyone ready?”
“Ten minutes ago, I was ready. Now I’m just impatient.” Mia tapped her watch.
“Mommy just got here.” Bonnie scratched her head while the others giggled.
Mia narrowed her eyes “Sweetie, what did I say about answering without someone asking you a question?” she scolded.
Devin quickly stood up for the little girl “Don’t listen to Mommy, Bonnie. She’s just upset because you blew her cover.” He bent down and waved her over. It didn’t take her another second to come running to his arms “Wow, you’re a little heavy this morning.” He bounced her playfully.
He didn’t notice the smile Erin gave him and the looks the rest of the agents gave him “What did you do to my girl?” Mia pointed, “She never follows strangers!”
“I’m not a stranger. We bonded right?” Devin asked the girl.
Bonnie nodded while giggling, “Uncle Devin’s my favorite person!” she claimed.
He laughed as they headed towards the van when it came to pick them up. He dropped her on the ground so she could board when his cell rang. Picking up the line, he stepped away from the crowd “Hello?” it was a private number.
“Devin…it’s me!” Doug hissed into the pay phone.
“Doug? Where are you? We’re leaving to the airport right now. You’re going to miss the flight if you don’t come back in five minutes.” He advised.
“No, I can’t leave. I discovered something huge!” Doug whispered. He looked around the people walking by, but none were from the gang. He was in a busy restaurant “I’ll meet you guys in a few weeks.”
Devin sighed “This better be good. Take care of yourself. I’m leaving all your documents at the Beijing Police Department. Just show him your necklace and he’ll give it to you.”
“Okay. I’ll keep in touch.” He finished and hung up the phone. He returned to the private room and earned a few looks from the guys. He noticed Ah Kiu sitting quietly, her face brightening when she saw him return “So, where were we?”
Ah Chung nodded “We were talking about heritance. According to the triad rules, once the dragon is gone, there is someone to take his place. Hung Gor only had one sister and he mentioned to me before that he wanted her to have everything of his if he were to die unexpectedly.”
“But it wasn’t specified.” Ah Kiu pointed out.
“Siu Jei, I don’t think you understand the importance of your presence here. You will have to take over Hung Gor’s position. No one here is deemed worthy to take this spot, you are the most deserved person.” He said with great honor.
Ah Kiu turned to Doug helplessly “But she’s only a girl.” He reminded them “A girl that has been living in the streets for God knows how long. How is she to run a triad?” Doug stated the obvious “She’s not even sure where she’s staying tonight let alone control you guys.”
“He’s right. I don’t know the first thing there is about a gang.” Ah Kiu nodded vigorously “I can’t run something like this.”
“But it’s your brother’s last request for you to take everything of his. Including the triad.” Ah Chung argued firmly.
“Dai Jei!” the guys cried in unison as they stood up together.
“They are ready to let you lead.” Ah Chung pointed “Your brother’s hard work cannot be demolished overnight. We have been searching for you for months. I couldn’t believe my luck that I would run into you here.”
Ah Kiu turned to Doug again “I really can’t run a gang.” She insisted.
“I’ll help you.” Ah Chung advised “I’ll show you around and take you to Hung Gor’s place in Hong Kong. I’m sure he’s left behind files for you to read. Not to mention, his mansion needs to be in your name.”
“Mansion?” Ah Kiu’s eyes lit up “He has a mansion?”
Ah Chung was confused, how could she not know what her brother had “You don’t know?” She shook her head “How long haven’t you guys talked?”
Ah Kiu looked away “Long enough. I…I never agreed to him running the triad. We rarely talked and last year, I was kicked out of the apartment I was renting. I lived on the streets for the past year and begged for food.”
“Why didn’t you call Hung Gor? He would have sent the guys to get you.” He informed.
She smiled weakly “It’s a little late for that.”
Ah Chung sighed, “Even though Hung Gor’s gone, I know he would want you to be taken care of. Don’t worry, from this day forth, no one will dare to lay a hand on you. You will never have to beg for food or worry about shelter. Consider yourself untouchable.” He laughed. Ah Kiu smiled slowly, she liked the sound of that. She had been teased countless times and beaten when she was desperate for food and stole some “Plus your bodyguard apparently can handle anyone.” He nodded at Doug.
Ah Kiu raised her brows “Oh Doug? He’s n—”
“It took me months to find Siu Jei too. I’m just glad I did before we found her dead in a ditch.” Doug replied solemnly. He gave her a secret wink as she nodded slowly.
“Did Hung Gor send you too?” Ah Chung asked. Doug nodded reluctantly “I think I heard him mention your name a few times. Do you have a nickname?”
Doug frowned strangely “What do you mean?”
“Hung Gor use to always call someone named Ah Gam when he was here in China. I figured it was you.” His brows furrowed “Maybe I mistaken.”
“Oh, yeah. He called me that all the time. Because I liked gold.” He pulled his gold chain necklace to show Ah Chung. Careful not to show his charm with the sign of Virgo. It was the team’s new code to enter headquarters. Every year, Devin would have them change a new code to keep the enemies from figuring it out “It was a code name but when it was just us two, he called me by Doug.”
“I see.” Ah Chung understood “Siu Jei, when do you want to hold the meeting?”
“Meeting?” She asked.
“Yes, we have to announce your new title and collect the boys and go back to Hong Kong. You don’t want to stay up here do you?” he questioned “I was under the impression that you hate it here.”
“I do.” She said firmly “The people are mean and have no pity for the poor.” She pulled up her left sleeve “See this? I was beaten up from this man who was selling hot sweet potatoes. I took one when I was so hungry, I told him that I would work for free in exchange but he refused and hit me with a stick.”
“That bastard!!” Ah Chung pounded his fist on the table, trembling the dishes and cups on the table “How dare he mistreat you! Keung, Lung, find that dick and beat the shit out of him!”
“Yes!” they got up and rushed out of the restaurant before Ah Kiu could stop them.
“Are you guys serious?” Ah Kiu asked unsurely.
Doug turned to her and noticed a small smile appearing on her face after Ah Chung nodded in answer “Anyone else that mistreated you? I’ll beat them all up. Their families too. Just say the magic word.” Ah Chung was quick to please her.
“Let’s not bring more attention to ourselves.” Doug advised wisely “The other gangs might be on the watch. I’m sure after Hung Gor’s death, they were waiting on the sidelines to get a piece of his inheritance.”
“Doug Gor is right.” Ah Chung nodded “We should stay low.” He snickered “Consider those bastards lucky.” He smiled crookedly at Ah Kiu, who nodded “We’ll start planning the meeting.

The team settled in their seats on the plane as they filled up the side window rows. Erin and Devin shared a row of three seats “Don’t worry, he’ll be fine.” She smiled warmly when noticing his worried expression.
“Huh?” he turned to her and figured who she was talking about “Oh, I know. Doug may be lazy at times but he knows what to do in a tough situation. I’m just thinking what to say to Jessie.” He didn’t want to dig another hole but it seemed he couldn’t help it.
“Don’t worry about Jessie, I’ll make up a story.” Erin patted his hand gently.
“Uncle Devin!!” Bonnie appeared at the row “Mommy says I could sit with you.” She claimed.
“I did not!” Mia exclaimed.
“I did.” Darren peeked his head up “She was asking for you.” He was glad Bonnie was warming up to other people besides himself and Mia. Turning to his wife, he shook his head “Don’t get jealous, you know she’ll always love you the most.”
“How could you not be worried?” Mia widened her eyes “She just said Devin was her favorite person. I’m nobody now.”
Darren pushed her head onto his shoulder roughly “There, there…we’re not losing a daughter, we’re just gaining a new friend. Her new friend.”
Mia moved herself away “Whatever, I’m not going to get use to this.”
He laughed with a shaking head “I’m surprised you’re not using this to your advantage.”
“What?” she thought he was going mad “What nonsense are you talking about now?”
Rolling his eyes, he sighed, “Didn’t you say you wanted to find proof that Devin and Erin are together?”
“Oh!! You’re right!” Mia clapped her hands “I can use Bonnie for more information.” She rubbed her hands together menacingly “I tried it once and it failed but I’ll try again.”
Darren laughed as he unfolded a newspaper and began reading “So you can start scheming and leave me alone.”
“I’ll help!” Jenna pounced on her seat and turned to their row behind her. Darren gasped as Jenna laughed “Sorry. I wanna help.” She repeated to Mia.
“Done.” Mia checked marked “You are in charge of Erin’s schedule. When we are not on a mission or in a meeting. Find out where she goes to and call me. Our code is this.” She made a series of winks, pulling ear, finger signs and ended it with one nod and two shakes.
Darren turned to his wife in amazement “And for her next trick, she’ll talk and chew gum at the same time.” He said sarcastically and returned to his newspaper.
“Don’t be ridiculous, that’s impossible to do.” Jenna waved a nonchalant hand at him.
“Yeah, I tried it.” Mia rolled her eyes.
