We (meaning me and Changmin) were the only ones left in the water. Junsu had just run to the shore as he said he had enough of swimming. I wanted to stay a little longer and Changmin decided to keep me company.
“Ji Soo-ah, why aren’t you swimming?”
Did I ever mention I don’t know how to swim?
I let out a nervous laugh, “Actually, I can’t swim.”
“Seriously?” the look in his eyes was the one of disbelief. I nodded. “I can teach you.”
“Hm, no thanks.” I waved my hands in the air indicating a ‘no’. But that didn’t stop Changmin. He swam closer to me.
“Come on, let’s go somewhere deeper- swimming is not that hard.”
“No, really, thanks but no. I-“ I stopped as Changmin got a strong hold of me and started dragging me to where the sea was deeper. “What are y-you doing? Changmin-sshi, stop this!” I already couldn’t reach the bottom with my feet. I felt my heart sink in fear (at that time I didn’t even care about Changmin being that close to me, at THAT says a lot) at the words Changmin said next.
“Don’t worry. Now we’re deep enough. I’ll let you go and you try to swim back to me. It’s not hard, just use your legs, not only hands, and you’re gonna be fine. Trust me.” With those words he let go of me and swiftly swam a little further away. My heart seemed to stop. There was nothing holding me on the surface and my body submerged in the water, I only had enough time to let out a terrified scream.
Panic. It overflowed me. I started waving my hands madly, trying to emerge. I tried screaming again but water got into my nose and mouth and I started coughing, making it even harder to breath. I had taken a large gulp of water and I could feel my lungs burning. Time seemed to freeze as I fought – I was sure it was a life-death situation- for my life. And just when I thought it was over for me, I felt hands grabbing me and I’m sure I heard Changmin’s voice calling my name desperately. My mind started getting blank, my vision got completely black. I only found myself conscious again when Changmin lied me down on the warm sand. But I couldn’t open my eyes, I couldn’t even breath, all I could do was hear faint voices shouting and something touching me.
My nose getting pinched, my head tilted back.
Something on my lips..? I could barely feel anything.
Hard rhythmic pressure on my chest.
Something warm on my lips. This time for sure.
Air being forced into my mouth.
The pressure again.

…5…
I coughed.
My head shot up, I started coughing and splitting water out of my mouth. The voices became clearer, now I could make out who they belonged to and what they were shouting. However, the only thing I cared about right then was getting the damn water out of my lungs.
“Are you okay? God, I’m so sorry, I didn’t-…” it was Changmin who was blabbering. His hands were on my back, supporting me, as I sat up, still coughing and gagging. His voice was trembling and so were his hands that were placed on my back.” I’m so sorry, are you alright? How do you feel? Should I call a doctor?”
“I’m gonna kill you Shim Changmin!” a familiar voice screamed, and I felt Changmin get pushed away from me. “Ji Soo!”
“Sun Yee-yah, calm down!” Junsu shouted, kneeling down next to me, “My God! What happened!”
“She almost drowned, you idiot!” Sun Yee yelled again and her voice cracked. She was crying.
By then my coughing had almost stopped. I took in a huge breath.
“I’m fine, Sun Yee.” I managed to utter, then suddenly gagged again. Sun Yee besides me gasped, clasping her hands over her mouth.
Changmin got scared too and jumped up on his feet, “Has anyone got their phones here? We need to call a doctor!”
“Calm down, all of you.” another voice ordered.” Ji Soo-sshi, can you breath normally now?” I lifted my eyes and saw Jaejoong staring down at me. It looked like he was the only sane one here.
I nodded, “I’m fine. No need to worry.”
“Are you sure?” Junsu carefully asked.
I nodded again, “Really, I’m fine.”
“I-…” Sun Yee spoke softly, but her voice cracked again, making her stop. She gulped down and tried again, “You s-should still see a doctor.”
I didn’t even have time to protest before Changmin jumped up, “I’ll go and call.”
“None of us knows Russian,” Junsu reminded, I took a glance at him, he was pale. Actually, all of them were now that I looked closer.
“I do. A little bit. I think I’ll manage.” Sun Yee stood up. I noticed her hands shaking. “I’ll go.”
“I’ll come with you,” Jaejoong said quickly. “You guys watch over her, we won’t take long.”
“Hurry up, “Changmin whispered, his eyes fixed on me, big and scared.
Jaejoong and Sun Yee nodded. And they both took off running. I watched their backs get smaller and smaller.
“Ji Soo-yah,” Junsu’s worried voice made me look at him, “If you feel bad or your head starts to hurt or you can’t breath, or you fell start feeling sick or…or-or something, tell us, okay?” he said all of that in one breath.
All I could do was nod.
Very soon, I heard many unfamiliar voices. It was the lifeguards, Jaejoong and Sun Yee. They checked my eyes, breathing, pulse and heart rate.
By the time they finished I felt much better.
“How do you feel?” Junsu questioned me softly, while Jaejoong and Sun Yee were trying to talk with the lifeguards.
“I’m fine.”
Junsu smiled weakly, “You keep saying that. Do you know how much you scared us?” he brushed my now-almost-dry hair away from my eyes, “I almost had a heart-attack here.” He let out a small laugh.
My lips curved into a smile, “Thank you… For caring,” I added once I thought that my random ‘thank-you’ might have sounded weird.
As the words left my mouth, his smiling face changed into a hard one and he shifted his eyes to the sea, “No need to thank.” His words were quiet, but calming at the same time and I my smile got a little bigger unconsciously.
After that, we sat there in silence until Sun Yee and Jaejoong came to us, both looking relieved.
“They said you’re okay!” Sun Yee dropped on her knees next to me and pulled me into a firm hug,” Ji Soo, you freaking idiot, why did you go so deep in the water when you know you can’t swim?”
I saw Changmin, who was standing alone, a few feet away from us all this while, tense. He opened his mouth and I knew he was going to tell them everything about what had happened.
I didn’t want him to.
I couldn’t let it.
“Sorry. That was stupid of me,” I gave her an apologetic smile. “You know, I just thought tht I could try…”
Sun Yee raised her eyebrows, she didn’t seem to buy it, but she didn’t say anything. I was thankful for that.
Soon after , we left the beach. Junsu was so overly caring and careful with me that it got not only on my but other’s nerves too so everyone that decided we should call it a day and go back to the house. On our way home (the beach house was meant be our home for quite a while) Changmin was silent, refusing to talk with anybody. He walked ahead of us and barricaded himself in his room as soon as he got home. But I didn’t actually have much time to think about him- Yunho and Yoochun were shocked when they heard about the accident and so I had three annoyingly concerned guys instead of one now.
“You were blue. You scared me out my mind. When me and Jaejoong-sshi were running to the house to call for help we met those lifeguards that were patrolling over beach. I don’t even know how we managed to tell them something was wrong but I’m glad we did. I think they just saw how scared I was and that’s why they fallowed us,” Sun Yee stopped to give me a bitter smile,” Seriously, Ji Soo, if you ever decide to learn how to swim again ,do it in a children pool, okay?”
I was glad Changmin wasn’t there to hear this.
I should have been mad at him, but strangely I wasn’t.
I couldn’t get his scared face out of my mind. I wanted to talk to him, tell him that it’s okay one more time. But I knew I wouldn’t find the courage to do that.
But we were bound to talk sooner or later, right?
Maybe sooner than I expected.
