Lun drove home and when he reached home, all he saw was pictures of him and Xuan. Photoframes lined his house. Nice, smiley pictures that were framed up smiled back at him. Confused and annoyed, he swept all of them onto the floor and went out again.
He was confused and dejected. Not knowing what to do, Lun went out to roam the streets.
Lun walked and walked. He didn't know how far he walked, or how long he walked. He just continued walking, until he heard a familiar voice behind him.
"Mushimushi?" the girl said into her cell.
Lun immediately looked up. That sounded so familiar.. Where did he hear it before? Then he turned back to see who it was. Before he could say her name, she said his first.
"Jay!..." she called out, then said into her phone again, "Hey.. I'll call you back later. Yeah. Bye!" She turned back to Lun again. "Jay! It's been a long time since I've last seen you!"
"Yeah." Lun replied, sounding not too enthusiastic.
"Hey.. What's wrong with you? ... Hmm.. Let's see.. How about going to the Surfers' Cafe to have a drink and talk too?"
Lun nodded half-heartedly.
------------------------------------------------------------
"So.. Jay, what's up with you these days?"
"Michelle! That is a stupid question... I think I already have everything written on my face. Can't you see?" Lun replied, taking a sip from his frothy cappucino.
Michelle narrowed her eyes as she looked at Lun. "All I see on your face is.. Hmm.. Erm.. Well.." After pondering for quite a long time and Lun was beginning to feel impatient, she said, "Okay okay... I'm stupid, okay? Now can you tell me what happened?"
Lun's tired eyes seemed to give away nothing at all but as he began telling Michelle what happened, the whole story could almost be seen replaying in his eyes. Lun told Michelle everything that happened ever since he went to Xuan's house to protect her from Zhe. After all, Michelle used to be one of his best pals from High School. And, she knows Lin and Xuan as well.
"... ... ... Yeah.. That's what happened, you see.. So what do you think I should do?"
By that time, Michelle was listening so intently until she could only stare at Lun after he finished talking. It was after a few moments that she regained her senses and started thinking about what to say.
"Actually Jay... I know Jiaxuan.. Well, I know her well enough to say that.. She's a good girl. Forgive her and get her back. If you don't, I'd say you'd regret it for a long long time..."
"Why? What if she's only having me on?" Lun answered at once.
"Why? Because.. Well.. You can try it if you want. Then it's not my problem anymore when she gives up on you and marries another guy instead. From what I know of Jason, yeah, thank God Jiaxuan gave him up. A lot worse could have happened to her. Seriously, not only this." Michelle sighed and looked out of the shiny glass windows. "If you really love Jiaxuan, don't give her up. It doesn't really matter that much whether that kid belongs to you or not. If you love her, you'll love the baby too, regardless of whose it is."
Lun seemed to be pondering about something as he fingered around with the print on the tablecloth. "I suppose you're right.. But... Hey, I'm a guy 'Chelle. I need to have some pride.. Oh well.. It's a guy's thing. You can't understand."
Michelle smacked her forehead as she stared at Lun with disbelief. "Jay! You're unbelievable! How can you still care about these things when your love is at stake!"
"I told you you can't understand these things.." Lun muttered.
"Hey I heard that. Jay... Look, I can see that you really love Jiaxuan, okay. And since you do, you should try to get her back. I know pride's important to you. But isn't Jiaxuan more important? Saying sorry to her won't make your lose your pride and dignity. It's something a real man should do for the girl he loves. You'll only lose your pride and dignity if you don't admit to your mistakes."
Lun looked at Michelle, wide-eyed, almost gaping. Of all the years he had known her, he had never once heard her saying such profound things. "Okay. I get your point. I... I guess I know what to do..."
"Yeah, Jay. That's the way." Michelle smiled.
"Gee.. Thanks man.. I wouldn't have known what to do without you."
"No prob Jay. From a girl's point of view, especially for Jiaxuan that little softie, guess what? I think she'll forgive you.."
Lun smiled and nodded.
"Oh yeah, before you go.. Here's my namecard. Feel free to visit." she dug around in her wallet before pulling out a blue card.
"Woah. You mean you're the boss of this place? Cool. Sure, I'll drop by... Especially if I need more help..."
------------------------------------------------------------
As Lun left Surfers' Cafe and Michelle, he had a regained confidence in himself. Yes, he was going to get Xuan back. Again.
