“Ni ting de dao” was put on repeat. Yeah, how Lun wished, that Lin could hear him, and answer all his questions.

“I er…” Feng started. =Oh no. Just when I decided to say, I have to start stammering again.= He scratched his head vigorously like a lost little boy who couldn’t find the right words to say.
“You what?” Zai asked, grinning as she looked at his blur face.
“I…” Feng took his second deep breath. “Ilikeyewillyewbemahgirlfriend?”
Zai could make out the words but playfully, she teased, “Huh? What’d you say?”
Slightly louder this time, Feng said, “Ilikeyewillyewbemahgirlfriend?”
“What’d you just say?”
Feng took an even deeper breath. “I LIKE YOU! WILL YOU BE MY GIRLFRIEND?”
Zai stared at him. But so did everyone else along the street.
Instantly, Feng’s face turned red and he pretended to admire the ground beneath his feet. Zai propped a pair of huge sunglasses on her nose at once. Then she whispered into Feng’s ear, “Do you need to be so loud?”
Feng looked at her innocently. “What? It’s you who said you can’t hear!” he protested.
“Fine! I’m sorry!” Zai hissed into his ear. Then an idea popped up in her mind. She grabbed Feng’s left hand and started running.
“Where’re we going?” Feng asked, clearly shocked by the sudden move.
“You mean you wanna stay there and keep getting weird looks?”
“Er… I think we’re getting even more weird looks now.” Feng looked around and said.
“Oh. Yeah. Oh well, all the more reason for us to get out of here faster.”
=Good point.= Feng thought.

They finally stopped when Zai turned abruptly and pulled him into an alley. Both of them leaned against the brick wall, panting. Then they looked at each other and laughed.
“That was fun.” Feng said, rather softly as both of them started staring at the ground like it was some amazing object.
“Yeah.” Zai muttered in reply. =Am I supposed to answer Yes?=
“Erm.. Zaizai? Feng mumbled.
“Yeah?”
“So.. Er… What’s your answer?”
Feng turned to Zai. Her head was hung low and he couldn’t see her expression, but she saw her gave the slightest nod. Initially he thought he was imagining it but realized after five seconds that she hadn’t stopped nodding. Overwhelmed with joy, he cried out, “Really??”
“I guess… Yeah.”
Feng almost couldn’t stop himself from jumping around like a three-year-old boy who had just gotten permission to eat ice-cream. So he put all his enthusiasm into hugging Zai instead.
Zai was surprised by the big show of affection but soon wrapped her arms around him as well.

“Chou-sir! Look out!”
Chou-sir, as he was called, spun round in half a millisecond, only to see the bullet coming straight at him. He knew there was no way he could dodge it and that his end was around the corner…

He was a well-known officer at the top of his league, the best, probably. His work was excellent but his life was in a mess. He had many sons but some he had not seen before and some he had not known. He even had a grandchild but that was definitely something he did not know.
His eyes slowly fluttered open. He saw his colleague watching vigilantly by him. His colleague’s eyes immediately lit up.
“Chou-sir! I’ll get the doctor!”
Chou-sir raised his hand weakly to take away his oxygen mask. “Wait a minute, Mike!”
Mike stopped in his tracks. “Yeah, sir?”
“I want you to help me… Find my family… All of them…”
Mike nodded. “Yes sir, I will. Now you take a rest while I get the doctor.”

=I can see the doc shining a strong beam of light into my eye. Then multiple checks on me and my injury. But I’m too weak to resist. I don’t even know what had happened to me. The only thing I know, is that I don’t have much longer to live. I overheard the doctor telling Mike that I could probably hold out for at max a couple more weeks. But there is something I have to do before I go. It’s something that I have delayed by many years. I want to see my children and the two women most important to me. My two sons, they never had a good life. I’m not a good father, neither am I a good husband, nor am I a good man. This is something I will have to live with for the rest of my life, that is, if I ever have one…=

As the days passed, the love between Feng and Zai only grew stronger, almost to the extent of being inseparable. They hogged the phone every night and met every morning before going to school. In school they were thinking of each other, in their dreams they were dreaming of each other.
They dreamt of a future together but reality was that they can’t stay together…

“En?” Wei said anxiously into the phone, only to find that the line wasn’t connected yet. =Pick up the phone, En! Just pick up the freaking phone!!=
“Hello~ This is Chen Qiao En, Joe speaking.”
It was her office phone, which explained why she took such a long time to pick up, for she didn’t know who was calling.
“En! It’s me, Wei!”
“Oh hi honey. What’s up?”
“It’s your sister! She just called and was mumbling something about leaving soon and told you not to worry about her. The worst part is that she was sobbing!”
En barely held on to the phone. “I’ll find her.”

Mike was gasping in shock as he read the information he found. Chou-sir had a wife, Li Jingying and two sons with her, namely Chou Jie Lun and a Li Jiafeng. But his affair with a Zhang Qi Wen also gave him two sons, Zhang Shan wei and Zhang Shuwei.
