Chapter 3

"silence.

Lun walked towards his block. It was only 8pm but it was already very dark and everywhere was quiet. Lun could feel the darkness closing in on him. He quickened his pace as he felt a shiver down his spine. It was fall and winter was just around the corner. Yeah, it was probably just the wind, Lun thought to himself.

The lift landing was even quieter than any other place. Lun increased the volume of his discman in an attempt to shut out the silence and stepped into the lift. He waited impatiently for the lift top reach his floor. But just as Lun reached his door, he realized that his keys weren’t with him. A scene from his dream flashed in his mind. The keys were in the track. No they aren’t! Lun’s thoughts shouted back to him. His keys were probably in his office. Then Lun shook his head furiously to get rid of that image.

Lun stood by his door, wondering about what to do when his cellphone rang.

“Hello?”

“Hey Jay. It’s me, Xuan.”

“Oh hi Xuan. What’s up?”

“Well, I was just wondering if you are free to come over to my place ‘cause my notebook just hung on me and I can’t fix it.”

“Oh sure, I’ll be there.”

“Thanks Jay! See ya later then!”

Lun sighed as he clapped his cellphone shut. “Well, at least it’s better than standing outside my house like a fool.” He muttered to himself.

Lun got into his car and started his engine. He dumped his suitcase on the seat beside him and drove off almost immediately. He didn't like the idea of staying in that carpark for such a long time.

Halfway to Xuan's house the "tank-empty" sign began to flash. Jay grimaced. Why hadn't he noticed that his tank was almost empty? He looked at the street signs and realized that he wouldn't be able to reach Xuan's house without a pump. Quickly, he turned into a station.

Lun pressed the doorbell. Xuan opened the door in less than a moment.

"Hey.. Thanks for coming..." She said.

"Sorry. Ran out of petrol." Lun mumbled.

"It's okay. Now, come on in."

Lun nodded.

As Lun worked on Xuan's notebook, Xuan couldn't help but look at him. Lun's hardworking expression made him look so good. Lun could feel Xuan's eyes on him and looked up slowly at her.

"Er... What?"

"Huh? Nothing... Nothing..." Xuan said and stood up immediately to walk away or else she might just drool all over him.

------------------------------------------------------------

Xuan didn't notice someone peeping through her window at them, neither did Lun. The guy grinned. Lun was just the person he was looking for.
