Lun immediately opened his eyes. Oh shit, he thought, this was Xuan's house, not his own. He then quickly picked himself up and found that the damn alarm was still ringing. And the worst thing was the sound seemed to come from his pocket. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his cell. The 'alarm!' was still flashing on its LCD screen. Irritated, Lun pressed the 'off alarm' button and clapped his phone shut.
Just then, Xuan came out of her room. She was already ready for work. "Hi Jie L... I mean Jay. Er... You're up already? Er... There's breakfast on the table..."
Lun nodded and asked, "Erm. Can I use your bathroom?" "Oh yeah. Sure." Xuan replied. After Lun disappeared into the bathroom, Xuan reproached herself for saying the wrong thing, which was calling Jay by his Chinese name, because she shouldn't have forgot. In fact, she had never forgot to call Jay by his English name before. Not until then. What had gotten into her?
But once Lun came out of the bathroom, Xuan immediately dismissed all her thoughts and tried to put on a smile. Lun returned one -a very rare one of his own- to her and she almost melted there and then. Then Lun went to eat breakfast. Breakfast that Xuan specially prepared for him. There was toast, a poached egg, a banana and a glass of milk.
Lun wished Xuan would stop being so good to him because everything she did for him only made him love her more.

Wei flipped through the papers in search of a job. Production manager? Technical suprintendent? Engineer? Sales executive? Accountant?
"Shadow? Shadow, come 'ere boy..." Wei called to his 3-year-old Golden Retriever. Shadow went running to Wei as the tag on his collar clanged. "Shadow, what do you think I should do? Should I do what I have experience in? Or be something I like?" Wei ruffled Shadow's fur as he spoke. "Speaking of like... You know what, boy? I saw this girl the other day... She... She was quite pretty..." Wei tried to recall how she looked. "Short hair... Quite tall... And big eyes... Gee... You won't understand... You've never been in love before..."
At this, Shadow pricked up his eats and stood up. If he could speak, he would tell Wei, "What? I've never been in love before? How can you say that about me? You think because I'm a dog I won't have feelings? Oh you heartless human being... Animals have feelings too! Well... You can always ask Skye whether dogs can feel or not..."
Just at that moment, the doorbell rang. Wei opened the door to find his neighbor, Qiao En and her dog, Skye, outside. Wei turned red almost instantly. He used to have a crush on Qiao En, but not anymore after he saw Hua.
"Hi Shan Wei."
"Er.. Hi. Anything the matter?"
"Yeah. Actually, quite a big one at that too..."
"Oh? What's wrong?"
"Well... You see, I think Skye's having Shadow's pups.
"Huh? What?!" Wei glared at Shadow, who was trying to cover his big face with his tiny paws in guilt. Then Shadpw tried to sneak away. "Shadow." Wei called. Shadow then slunk to Wei helplessly, and guiltily.
"Well, I guess that proves me right, eh? Look at that guilty look on him." Qian En said, grinning.
Wei laughed. "Erm... I'll pay for whatever she needs okay? To make it up to you."
Qiao En smiled. "That's not necessary. I just came to tell you 'cause I thought you'd like to know. Oh, and by the way, is Shadow a pedigree?" Wei nodded. "That's great! Then I can sell the pups at a higher price... Hmm... I'll tell you when the pups are born, okay?"
"Yeah. Sure. And sorry for that, okay?"
"Okay... Of course. See you next time. Bye!"
After Qiao En and Skye left, Wei told Shadow, "Hey boy... Looks like I was wrong about you eh?" Wei laughed at a guilty-looking Shadow. "Hmm... Tell me, if I should go and look for the girl I saw in the park?"

That whole day Lun thought of Xuan. He thought about how she called his name. Jie Lun. Shit, she sounded uncannily like Lin. Lin? No, he wasn't supposed to think about her. It was all history.
Lun had known Lin for more than 20 years already. Lin was his childhood playmate and they grew up together. But they had to be separated the year they got into high school because Lun moved house. After that, Lun saw less and less of Lin and began to miss her more and more as the days go by. It wasn't long before he finally realized that he had already fallen in love with her.
Lun's relationship with Lin lasted for several years until an accident took Lin's life away and left Lun alone. From then on, all Lun had left of Lin was only memories.
Lun got to know Xuan a year before Lin died. That time Xuan already had a boyfriend, Zhe. Xuan and Lun became good friends but Lun didn't know about Zhe and neither did Zhe know Lun. But Xuan knew Lin as they were high-school friends. After Lin died, Xuan was the closest person to him already.
Lun knew a lot about Xuan, except for the fact that Xuan had fallen for him some time ago. Lun was also the reason Xuan broke up with Zhe a couple of months ago. But Zhe wasn't going to let Xuan go like that. He wanted revenge. On Lun.
