Xiao You quickly unfastened the necklace that hung around her neck and took off its pendant, a plain silver pinky ring and placed it in a velvet lined jewelers box. She took a moment to draw a deep, steadying breath. It was stupid to be so frightened now. She had planned everything down to the last detail. No, nothing could go wrong.
The ring shove against the black velvet lining of the box, Xiao You reached out one finger and touched it gently. She felt oddly naked without the ring as a pendant on her necklace; she had worn for the last six years. She had a sudden impulse to snatch the lovely thing out of the box and fasten it around her neck again. It was hers damn it! What if Ximen just opened and then carelessly tossed it into the trashcan? What if he had forgotten her?
It had been six years; undoubtedly there had been a parade of women through his bedroom in that time. Perhaps he’d found one who could provide him with more than temporary satisfaction. Oh Lord, she mustn’t think of that, it hurt too much. She wouldn’t think of it. He wasn’t married or engaged. She knew that for certain. She’d soon take care of removing any woman who had taken his fancy. Ximen only belonged to her. She had a prior claim and wouldn’t hesitate to state it…
~FLASHBACK~
Ximen let out a soft sob, the moment he saw the billboard.
“So this was what Xiao Gen wanted me to see”, he uttered softly as he clearly sees the message that read “my beloved ximen”.
“How can I be so stupid as to let her down?”
Xiao You can’t bear the pain she saw on Ximen’s face, she came to him and embraced him.
Ximen looked down at her and says “Thank you Xiao You for giving me `my very moment`”.
Xiao You just smiled at him.
“Anything for you ximen…..because I love you”, Xiao You softly whispers.
Ximen was taken aback by her confession, he doesn’t know how to react or feel about it. He knows what Xiao You feels for him, but him? He is not sure, his so confused.
“Xiao You you know that I can’t offer you anything right now. You know my lifestyle, my one-week policy. I’ve told you before I’m a good man but not a good person”
“I know Ximen and I’m not forcing you to return my love, that’s why I’m leaving for Canada tomorrow. Maybe there I would learn to forget you, although I know its not that easy. And also to give you time to think.”
As Xiao You said this, Ximen begins to remove his pinky ring and face Xiao You.
“Xiao You, I know that I’ve cost you so much pain and I wonder how can you still love me inspite all of the heartaches I’ve done to you. I don’t deserve your love……not yet. That’s why I’m giving you this ring. Its very important to me, so I hope you’ll cherished it. Until this ring is with you, there would still be hope for both of us, that we will be together again….but for now, go to Canada fulfill your dreams, enjoy your life and find happiness. Don’t look for me, I’ll come for you when I’m ready….”, Ximen kissed Xiao You’s forehead after giving her the ring.
Xiao You can’t stop the tears from falling down.
“I’ll wait for that time Ximen until then…..” and with that Xiao You turn around and never look back.
~END OF FLASHBACK~
Xiao You snapped back from reality after hearing a knock on her door. She stood and snatched up the package and her shoulder bag from the chair beside the desk.
“Just a minute”, she called.
“Take your time”, came Sean’s deep voice, “we still have an hour to go before our call time, I’ll just wait for you in the living room.”
Xiao You came out wearing a three-piece-suit in light blue color; her hair is tied up in a bun to complete that “formal look”. She will be having a businessman as her guest on her TV show.
“You look lovely today”, Sean said while Xiao You was going down the stairs.
“Yeah right…Sean I already know that, you don’t have to say it again”, she said jokingly.
“I knew your going to say that”, Sean chuckles, ”hurry up or we’re going to be late”.
“Its still too early. So I’m wondering if we could first drop off at the post office, I need to mail this package” Xiao You said.
There was a flicker of curiosity in Sean’s eyes as he glanced down at the package, “I guess we can handle that. Is that important?” Sean asked.
“Oh yes, its very important”
“Okay then”, Sean said as she lead her out of the house.
