Chapter 9

Buddies

Some where in the town, 5 people lost their way, trying to find East High. One of them kept looking at a piece of paper.

“Yah, Kibum! Are you sure it’s here?” Donghae asked with worried look on his face.

“Oh, no! Don’t tell me that we’re lost!” Jessica walked towards Kibum and smacked his head.

“Ouch! Hey! Don’t do that!” Kibum rubbed his sore head. “It must be some where here. It can’t be far, based on this information given here,” looking on the paper again.

“Did you hear what she said properly? Maybe you’ve heard wrongly,” said Han Kyung.

“Yeah. I’ve checked with her a few times already. Maybe we should call her again.” Kibum started to take out his phone. Suddenly, Han Kyung stopped him.

“Let me call her.” He searched for the number in his phone and pressed dial. A few moments later, a sleepy voice of greeted him.

“Hello?” Then I yawned loudly.

“Jes? You are still sleeping at this hour? It’s 2pm. Are you sick?” He asked worriedly.

“Omo! Han Kyung? Ahh!!! I miss you!” I shouted on the phone. My voice was so loud that he had to take his phone further from his ear. Even the others heard it and they started giggling.

“Ya, I miss you too.” He blushed. “Hey, you haven’t answered my question yet.”

“Oh, yeah. Sorry. I’m not sick. Today I had a day off. I had a tiring week too. So I over slept.” Then another sleepy voice was heard. “Who’s that baby?”

Han Kyung’s gripped his phone. “Baby? A guy called her baby?” he thought angrily.

“Haish! Chunnie ah! *smack* Babo! I’m talking to my friend here!” “Ouch! Ok ok. Sorry!” Yoochun said. “Sorry. Anyway, what’s up?”

“We’re lost. Can you come here and save us? My legs are killing me!” Tiffany grabbed Han Kyung’s phone without his notice.

“Omo! Tiffany! Huh? What do you mean? Our gang are here?” I asked excitedly.

“Yup! Come here and save us! We’re in front of the post office! Quick!” Tiffany shouted.

“Ok ok! Wait for me! I’ll be there in about 15 minutes!”

Tiffany gave back the phone to Han Kyung. Then suddenly she exclaimed, “Han Kyung! Why were you asking different things when we’re stuck in here? Don’t tell me you still in love with her.”

Everyone’s eyes were on him. He was speechless. “She’s right. I love her although she rejected me. I can’t forget all those feelings I have for her,” he thought.

Donghae walked towards him and gave him a pat on the shoulder. “Come on, Han Kyung. You should have forgotten that long time ago. Remember what she said?”

-Flashback-

“Please accept me, Jes. I really love you. I love you with all my heart. I promise you,” Han Kyung held my hand.

“Han Kyung, I love you as my brother. Please don’t do this.” I let go his hand. “Please treat me as a sister. I hope you can forgive me. I don’t want our relationship to be more than that. We are forever The Bolt group and best friends.” I hugged him for the very last time and walked away from him. That was the last time we meet after I decided to transfer.

-End of Flashback-

Ya, I remember. But it leaves a scar within me although it healed.” Han Kyung said sadly.

The rest drew closer towards Han Kyung and gave him a hug. “Just get over it. I’m sure you don’t wanna see you like this?” Jessica said.

He nodded. “Thanks guys. You guys really my best friend.”

“Yeah! That’s why we’re The Bolt!” Tiffany and Kibum pumped their fist into the air.

They all laughed.

“Chunnie ah! Faster! We’re gonna be late!” I shouted to Yoochun excitedly. “I’ve got to introduce you to my friends and them to you!”

“Ok ok. Done. Am I suave enough?” he asked.

I looked at him from head to toe. Nicely styled hair, striped shirt with a black jacket and matching pants, he indeed looked more suave than I imagined. “Very handsome, baby. Can we go now?” I tugged his arm out of our room.

“Ok. Let’s go.”

After we passed our school’s main gate, he asked. “Why you’d bring me along anyway? I supposed you guys wanna have a good chat since you people haven’t met for months.”

“They’re my best friends in my old school and you’re my special someone. Of course I want them to know you better.” I blushed upon this words. “And I’m gonna bring you to my house someday,” I spoke so quietly that it almost sound like a whisper.

Still, he heard it. “Omo? Jinja? Ok! When you’re gonna bring me see ahjuhshi and ahjuhma? You have oppa and unnie too right?” He was happy that his lover wanted him to meet her family.

“Err… Maybe later. Oh! There they are!” I pointed towards a group of people standing by the bus stop. “Hey! Guys! Over here!” I shouted to them.

Yoochun turned and looked. A guy with cute features was waving excitedly, as well as a short blond-haired guy. A girl with long straight hair ran towards me, followed by another shoulder length-haired girl. A guy with long blond hair had his back against a pole, smilling at them.

“Ah! Jessica! Tiffany! I miss you!” We hugged each other tightly.

“Omo! Jes! Your hair! You’re better off with your long hair! Now you looked exactly like a guy!” Tiffany exclaimed.

“Aish, Tiff! If she still had her long hair, she won’t…” Then she saw Yoochun. “Oops! He… Erm, I…”

“Don’t worry, guys! He knows everything already.” I pulled Yoochun over. “Let me introduce my boyfriend. His name is Park Yoochun.

Their eyes almost popped out of the sockets. “What!”

Yoochun bowed. “Anneonghaseyo. I’m Yoochun.”

“Wow! You’ve got yourself a handsome boyfriend!” Jessica said. “I’m happy for you, Jes.”

I blushed. “Thanks, Jessica.” “Chunnie ah. This is Jessica. *Hi!* Tiffany. *Anneong!* Kibum. *Hello!* Donghae. *Anneonghaseyo!* And Han Kyung.” I introduced one by one.

Han Kyung walked over and held out his hand. “Nice to meet you.” His voice almost icy cold.

Yoochun took his hand and shook it. “Nice to meet you too.” He smiled a little. “What’s with this guy? He seems full of hatred when he looks at me,” Yoochun thought.

“Hey, guys! Why not find a place and sit down to have a nice chat?” I suggested.

Both Yoochun and Han Kyung let go each others hand. Kibum and Donghae were a bit worried over them. Just looking at their faces they know that there’s war going on. Luckily, Tiffany and Jessica had sensed it and pulled Han Kyung away.

“Yeah! Good idea! Why don’t you suggest where we should go?” Tiffany said.

“Err… “ thinking very hard. Suddenly, a familiar place popped in my head. “Oh, yeah! I know! Sweet and Spicy café! They offered lots of yummy food there! I always go there every time I came back here for holidays last time! Wanna go?”

“Ok!” they all agreed. Yoochun held my hand and walked. The rest were following behind. Only Han Kyung alone seemed unhappy. Seeing his beloved with other guy holding hands made him jealous.

As we arrived, I opened the door. Familiar smells and faces there had made me feel very homely. There’s a squeal around one corner. Without my notice, I was hugged by a girl. A cute and sweet girl. “Yeong unnie! I missed you very much! I haven’t seen you for months! Where you’ve been?” squealed Seo Hyun, the owner’s daughter. She was jumping up and down excitedly.

“Whoa, there! Calm down!” I laughed at her cute silliness. “I’ve transfer to a new school and stayed in hostel. I can’t come out as often as before,” I explained. “Where’s ahjuhma? I missed her cookings.”

While the rest were gaping at both of us, Seo Hyun quickly brought us to place. After settled down, she handed out menus. “Sorry, unnie. She’s very busy. She seldom come out of the kitchen these days. Our business here are really booming.”

I looked around. “But there’s only few people here.”

“Unnie, can you look at the time now? *showing the clock near the counter* It’s past lunch time. But still, she’s busy preparing more foods. Later is tea time.” Then she giggled. “So, what you guys wanna order?”

“I would like a steak please,” Kibum said. “Done. And a cup of coffee.”

“Both of us cream pasta please,” Jessica said. “Lemonade for me and iced tea for her.”

“Chicken chop and tea please,” Donghae said.

“Erm… I don’t know what to decide. Why don’t you pick for me. Jes?” Yoochun put down his menu.

“Jes, me too. Can you suggest for me?” Han Kyung put down his menu too, glared towards Yoochun.

I noticed them glaring at each other. “I know this gonna happen. Ha Kyung still haven’t forgot his feeling towards me,” I thought silently. “Oh, ok. Yoochun and mine the same thing, well, you know what’s my favourite right?” I asked Seo Hyun.

“Yup, unnie. As clearly as if it just happened yesterday,” she joked.

“Well, Han Kyung doesn’t like veggies. I suggest you take the same thing as Kibum. It’s really nice.”

“Ok. Whatever, Jes,” Han Kyung replied with a forced smiled. “She still remembers that I hate veggies. But she ordered the same thing for both of them. Why?” he thought. “You really love him?”

While waiting for our food, I forced myself to talk about our relationship in front of Han Kyung. “Han Kyung, do still treat me as a sister, a best friend?”

Everyone turned to look at me, shocked. “Jes, don’t…” Hae interrupted.

“We have to face it someday, Hae.” I turned my attention on Han Kyung again. “Answer me, please.”

“I… I can’t forget it… I… I’m sorry,” he replied. His eyes full of sadness.

“You like Jes, am I right?” Yoochun suddenly voiced out. The words had made Han Kyung stopped staring at the table. Instead, he looked directly at Yoochun.

“I think I guess it right. Judging the way you looked at me went we shook hands. You can’t force Jes to accept you. She has the freedom to choose anyone she likes. I know you understand her better since you’ve known her for a long time. But the way you do as though you’ve known her for a short period of time, like me,” Yoochun said with disappointment in his voice.

“Chunnie ah…”

“You’re right.” Han Kyung spoke up. “You’re the right person to be with Jes. You know her far deeper than I do. Forgive me for my rudeness just now, Yoochun.” He held out his hand. “Now, I want you to take all the responsibility to take care of her. I f you make cry or hurt her, I’ll make sure you’re gonna pay for it. Promise?”

Yoochun shook his hand. “Promise.”

“I’m very happy to see both of you can be friends, not foes. Don’t worry, Chunnie will always protect me.”

The rest were relieved and laughed. “War ended at last,” said Donghae with relief.

We laughed out really hard.
