Eunhyuk turned around and sat down next to him in the grass, listening to the song. "Sounds beautiful..." Eunhyuk moved closer to Donghae and rested his head on Donghae's shoulder. "It reminds me of love."
Donghae finished playing and looked at Eunhyuk. Eunhyuk took his head off Donghae's shoulder and stared at Donghae. "It's about love."
"Who's it for, Donghae?" Eunhyuk asked, staring into Donghae's eyes.
"Its for the one I love." Donghae said, staring deep into Eunhyuk's eyes. They were the eyes he knew. The eyes he fell in love with.
"Who are you in love with Donghae?" Eunhyuk asked. "Who do you love?"
"I...I..." Donghae searched for the right words. "I..." Love you. "I...love....y-"
BEEP BEEP
Donghae rolled over on his stomach and looked at his alarm clock. It read out 7:30 in red digital numbers and buzzed out an annoying tone. Donghae reached his hand out and slapped the snooze button. "More sleep..." He pulled the covers up over his head and squeezed his eyes shut. He tried to get back to sleep, get back to that dream.
/knock knock/
"Donghae, Hyukjae is here." His mother's voice called out from behind the door. Donghae rolled back on his back and stared up at the ceiling. He had that dream again. The dream that had been haunting him for the past month.
He first had the dream in Korea, the last night Eunhyuk called him. That's when Donghae realized how much he had missed his best friend, and how much he loved him.
"Er okay mom. Tell him I'll be out in a minute." Donghae said and rolled out of his bed. He quickly dressed in his usual laid back style clothes and grabbed his cell phone and wallet.
"Be back later mom." Donghae called out before leaving out the door.
"Hey bro wassup." Eunhyuk asked once Donghae got in the car.
'Bro...wassup...is this Eunhyuk?' Donghae asked himself. "Nothing just woke up." Donghae rubbed his eyes and yawned.
"Sorry, wanted to get some breakfast before we get there." Eunhyuk said as he turned on his car.
"Sounds good." Donghae said, and stared out of the window. He couldn't help but feel awkward around Eunhyuk, especially after having that dream again.
"You okay? You seem...distant." Eunhyuk took his hand off the wheel and touched Donghae's shoulder. Donghae flinched at the touch and looked down at Eunhyuk's hand. Eunhyuk took his hand back and squeezed his steering wheel. "So I was thinking for electives...I could take a guitar glass...and you could maybe tutor me or something."
"What about dancing? You should focus more on dancing then something stupid." Donghae quickly said, without realizing he just called his passion 'stupid.'
"Stupid? You calling guitar stupid is like me calling dancing a waste of time..." Eunhyuk laughed. He smiled and looked over at Donghae. Donghae stared out the window, not even smirking at Eunhyuk's joke. Eunhyuk sighed and turned back to the road. "Which it is. Dancing, I mean. Its a waste of time..." Eunhyuk confessed.
"What!" Donghae snapped and looked over at Eunhyuk. "What do you mean? You love dancing! More than I love guitar!"
"Its a go no where career. If I'm lucky I'll end up like my mom dancing behind some 'popular now girl group'. I should be focusing more on classes that will help me in the future."
"So...you want to take a guitar class? How would that help you?" Donghae scoffed.
"It wouldn't. My best friend plays guitar and I've never played one in my life. I would just be doing it so I could get closer to you. You always seem so peaceful when you play your guitar an-"
"And you always seem so peaceful when you dance! You can't quit dancing, Eunhyuk." Donghae protested.
Eunhyuk flicked on his turn signal and turned into a Denny's parking lot. "I guess you're right...but I really need to be focusing more on school than dance." Eunhyuk mumbled, not letting Donghae fully hear him.
"What looks good?" Eunhyuk spoke up, breaking the silence that over came the two since their conversation in the car.
"I dunno. I've been eating nothing but rice and kimchi so everything looks good to me." Donghae joked.
Eunhyuk laughed and sipped some of his coffee. Donghae watched as he downed have of the cup in on little 'sip'. Eunhyuk never drank coffee, today was in fact the first day Donghae saw him drink the dark liquid. "When did you start drinking that?" Donghae asked and took a sip of his own cup of coffee.
"Huh? Coffee? I always drink coffee, what are you talking about?" Eunhyuk laughed and finished his cup of coffee.
"When I left you hated coffee. Always told me it stunts your growth and has too much caffeine." Donghae said.
Eunhyuk shrugged. "People change, Donghae." He mumbled and looked down at the menu. "I'm thinking about getting pancakes and eggs. What about you?"
That was the second time Eunhyuk mentioned changing. Donghae found something strange about his words. He didn't bother stressing the matter. "I-uh-thinking about pancakes too. Maybe some french toast." Donghae sighed and looked at his own menu.
.
"Seniors please go to the large gym for registration." Eunhyuk read aloud the message written on the outside of the school's main door.
Donghae and Eunhyuk entered the school and walked down the hall towards the big gym. "Feels weird, doesn't it?"
"What does?" Donghae asked, looking at all the lockers passing, making sure he kept a safe distance from Eunhyuk.
"Being in these halls. It feels nostalgic. I mean, you know this is our last year here, right? After this year you'll be going off to Broadway and I'll be stuck here in Santa Barbara." Eunhyuk said the last part quietly, hoping Donghae wouldn't say much about it.
"Broadway? I don't think I'll be that famous..." Donghae trailed off then realized the last part of what Eunhyuk said. "Wait, stuck in Santa Barbara? No way, if one of us makes it big, its gonna be you. You'll probably be scouted right after you finish dancing sch-"
"Donghae I already told you I'm quitting dancing." Eunhyuk snapped. Donghae was taken aback by his friends sudden harsh tone. "Sorry, I'm not gonna be a dancer, Donghae. I'll probably do something in construction...oh! That reminds me, I did a bunch of odd jobs over the summer...while you were gone."
"Really?" Donghae dropped the dancing and future subjects. "Like what?"
"Construction work...painting...putting in carpet in rich people's houses. That kind of stuff." Eunhyuk said like it was nothing.
"Wow, cool. You get lots of money?" Donghae asked, feeling more at ease with his best friend now that the awkward conversation was behind them.
"Yeah. Tons." Eunhyuk laughed.
"What did you spend it on?" Donghae asked, not knowing he was digging into something Eunhyuk didn't want to talk about.
"Erm, well savings, really." Eunhyuk half lied. "Oh look," Eunhyuk kicked his foot in front of him, "we're here."
.
"Hmm...signing up for honors math, what about you Donghae?" Eunhyuk asked, nudging Donghae's arm with his elbow.
Donghae shrugged and looked at the coarse list. He checked the usual classes he wanted, guitar, choir, English, Chemistry. "I dunno, someone said Mr Richards was taking over honors math."
Eunhyuk cringed his teeth. Mr Richards was known as 'Sargent Richards' around school for his take no for an answer, tough teaching methods. He ran his class like a Drill Sargent ran his courses. "Oh, then no honors math for me..." Eunhyuk checked the regular math class box, completing his primary class list. "Now for electives..."
"I already have guitar and choir down. I'm thinking of maybe a business class..." Donghae said, scanning the coarse list.
Eunhyuk looked down at the electives. He spotted the 'Real Living' section. He clenched his hand into a tight ball and started to dig his nails in his skin. The classes 'Child Development' and 'Parenting Skills' glared up at him. He looked over at Donghae, he was busy reading the coarse descriptions to see Eunhyuk quickly mark the two classes.
"I got two electives down. Maybe I should do a uh business class with you." Eunhyuk asked as he folded his class list under his arm.
"What did you pick? I'll pick one of them so we can be together." Donghae said, not looking up from his packet.
"Uhm dancing classes...you know something you won't wanna do..." Eunhyuk lied.
"Oh, well I don't know, dancing seems like fun..." Donghae looked over at the performing arts section and looked at the dancing classes.
"Well, you'll have to join a beginners class, so we won't be able to be together..." Eunhyuk said, trying to get Donghae off of dancing.
"Yeah you're right. I'll be with a bunch of freshman too. Maybe a child develop-"
"No!" Eunhyuk shouted. Donghae stared up at him and knit his brow. "I mean, no, don't. That class is so lame! You'd hate it."
Donghae shrugged and went back to his coarse list. "Alright whatever you say. I'll just leave my other elective blank and let the counselors decide for me." Donghae said and gathered up his coarse packet.
