Out of His Shell...

Nicholas sighed as he collapsed onto Boscos shoulders, Isnt her Plane supposed to be here an hour? Whats taking so long?

Beats me, ask Sir Cheng over there, Bosco yawned as he pointed towards Kevin, who was listening intently into his cell phone.

Shes still not here? Niki asked as Charlene and herself walked up to the boys carrying trays of coffee.

Nope. Hey Charlene. Come here and give me a massage, Nicholas commanded once he saw his girlfriend handing Bosco a cup of coffee. Nicholas immediately changed his tone once he saw Charlenes deadly glare. It looked like she was about to spit venom from her mouth. Uh, I was just joking, sweetie. Come here Ill give you a massage instead.

Kev...I mean Sir. Heres your coffee, Niki said as she handed Kevin a cup .

Without even looking up at her, Kevin continued to talk on his cell phone, completely ignoring her existence. He was a totally different man when hes on the job.

After carelessly and angrily throwing the cup down in front of Kevin, Niki stomped away toward Charlenes direction.

Jerk face, I hope he trips and fall down the stairs, Niki squealed once she sat down next to her best friend. Charlene tried not giggle at her Nikis immaturity.

Look alive guys, the diplomats daughter is gonna be here in fifteen minutes, Kevin said abruptly once he snapped his flip phone shut.

Finally! What was the hold up? Bosco said, stretching his arms.

She forgot one of her bags at the airport so she made the pilot turn around so she could get it, Kevin informed as he rubbed his temples. Its been a long morning for all of them. Being too wrapped up in his work, Kevin didnt realize his girlfriends dagger glare.

Spoiled brat. I can tell shes gonna be a handful, Charlene quietly said, loud enough only for Niki to hear.
---
Did you see that? Shes totally hitting on my boyfriend, Niki sneered as Kevin greeted Charmaine at the gate.

Charlene rolled her eyes and said dully, Theyre only shaking hands, loser. Stop overreacting on everything.

Niki narrowed her eyes deviously and gritted her teeth, Trust me. Im not overreacting. That woman wants my man.

How could you possibly know that? Charlene said, shaking her head.

Its called womens intuition, Niki replied before biting down on her bottom lip.

Hmm, I dont like this apartment. Much too small for me, Vicki said as the realtor gave the couple a tour of a newly renovated apartment that just came on the market. She took a whiff of the odour in the air and added, and the paint smell is way to strong.

The realtor took a deep breath, trying to maintain the smile on his face although he was getting quite impatient with this hard-to-please girl.

Alec pulled Vicki aside and whispered, Honey, youve criticized almost every place we looked at today. Youre usually never this picky. Whats the matter?

Im picky when it comes to the place where were gonna spend the rest of our lives together. None of the apartments we saw today felt cozy and homie enough. Vickis voice was a little shaky as if she was trying to hide something.

Alec sighed as he stoked Vickis cheek, Are you sure? I think someone is just nervous because she doesnt want to be away from her family.

Vicki stared at Alec. How could anyone know her so well? After a moment of silent Vicki finally broke out her real feelings. Ok fine! You got me. Michelle and Niki just moved back into town and I dont want us to be separated again. But I really want to move in with you too!

Alec shook his head and grinned sweetly, yet teasingly. I didnt know you girls were so close since you always fight like cats and dogs. Receiving an annoyed glare from Vicki, Alecs tone went from teasing too reassuring, Listen, baby. We dont have to rush into this. We can wait until we find a place close enough so you can see your sisters regularly. Theres lots of places available near the harbour. And if we dont find the right place, I can wait till youre ready.

Her eyes were round and wide as she stared at Alec gratefully, Really? Youre willing to wait?

Alec shrugged as he flashed Vicki his cutest smile, Well, I dont want to but I will for you.

He smirked coyly as Vicki threw her arms around his neck and placed a gentle kiss on his lips.

Thats why I love you, dont worry. I wont make you wait that long, Vicki whispered sweetly into Alecs ear.

Jess, I think thats enough food and cleaning supplies. My apartment is fine the way it is, Louis whined as he trailed behind Jessica in the grocery store.

Shut up, if you want me over anymore, you better clean up the pig sty you call your home, she said as she grabbed five bottles of Windex, throwing it carelessly into the already full cart Louis was pushing.

Why do I have to do all the cleaning? Im not the only one that lives there you know. Jessica completely ignored Louiss complaint and continued to search the aisle for the items on her list.

Hmm, I wonder where they keep the paper towels. Ill be right back, you wait here, Jessica commanded as she scampered away towards another aisle.

Sighing, Louis slouched down onto the stacked boxes of Tide detergent. She came back after about ten minutes and had more than fifteen items with her. Louis was bedazzled as he watched Jessica juggled all the stuff she was carrying in her two tiny arms.

Dont just stand there, help me, she scolded as Louis continued to have a dumbstruck gaze on his face, we have to meet up with Julian and Gigi in an hour. Lets go.
---
Louis gallantly pulled out a chair for Jessica as he asked, Why do you both look so happy? He looked suspiciously at a smiling Julian.

Ya, Gigi. Are you hiding something from me? Jessica could tell something big was happening from the sparkles in Gigis eyes.

We have something important we wanna ask you guys, Gigi finally said, her smile growing larger by the second. Will you be my Maid of Honour?

WHAT? OH MY GOD. You guys are engaged? Jessicas voice couldve shattered every piece of glass inside the restaurant, When was this?

Gigi grinned as she held out her left hand, flaunting a huge diamond on her ring finger, He asked me yesterday. You two are the first people we told.

Jessica instantaneously bounced off her chair and threw her arms around Gigi, Omigosh, congratulations! Im so happy for you. Whens the big day? Have you picked out your dress? What are your kids names? What flowers are gonna be at your wedding? And did I say I was happy for you?

The two girls giggled and gushed like a couple of schoolgirls as they jumped up and down and hugged each other every two seconds.

By the way dude, youre my Best Man, Julian tried to raise his voice above the two squealing girls.

Congrats buddy, didnt think you had it in ya, Louis said as he patted Julian on the back.

Julian smiled, replying, Well thats what happens when you find the right girl.

Louiss looked over towards Jessica and nodded, I think youre right.

Oh my god, you look amazing. If you dont buy this, Im buying this for myself since its the last one in the entire store, the saleslady exclaimed as she admired Michelle from aside.

I really dont see why we have to wear this, Michelle groaned as she examined herself in the full length mirror from the in the fitting room. Elegant was the only word to describe her in a pure white Versace gown. Each step she took the satin train trailed behind her, contributing to her delicate features.

Giving her older sister the elevator look, Niki nodded her head approvingly. She then shrugged and replied, Its the dress code of the banquet, Mich. Even though were practically security guards. But I gotta admit, you actually look like a girl for once.

Michelle gave her smart-mouthed little sister an evil glare followed by a slight punch in the arm. She sighed as she continued to study herself. Michelle hated to admit it but Niki was right for once. Since it was a black-tie function, Michelle had no choice but to suck it up and drag herself around in a formal gown. Dresses, skirts, and other girly attires just wasnt Michelles thing. Shed rather be snugged in her comfy worn out jeans and a hoodie.

I cant even breath in this thing. And where the hell am I gonna hide my gun and cuffs? Michelle grunted as she tried to loosen the strings of the corset-styled gown.

Are you kidding? I didnt even lace it up that tight, Niki exclaimed as she braced herself and began tightening the laces even tighter. Michelles groan echoed through the entire building as Niki tugged on the corset. And you can hide your gun in the velcro belt you wear on your thigh.

Michelle grunted as she wiggled around uncomfortably in the dress, I think you should lay off those cop movies. She felt like all her organs were being squished together. All in the name of fashion.

Ok, done. Twirl around and let me see, Niki acclaimed.

Michelle sighed as she obediently made a three hundred and sixty degree turn. All the male eyes in sight of Michelle were hypnotized as they gazed upon her beauty.

Thats hot! Niki exalted, a little to enthusiastically.

I guarantee, no one else will have this gown. And at that price, were practically giving it away. This gown is totally you, the saleslady persuaded with a hint of flattery. It was her job to praise people after all, but she was actually telling the truth this time. This dress was made for Michelle.

Well take it! Niki proclaimed, AMEX good?

With her mouth hanging open, Michelle glared at her little sister who happily reached into Michelle's bag and pulled out the American Express Card.
---
What the hell were you thinking? That dress costs more than we make in a month, Michelle screamed at her sister once they left the classy boutique.

Niki rolled her eyes and sighed, Its not everyday we get to wear a gown to work. And you couldve backed out and didnt have to sign the receipt. Admit it, you like the dress. Michelle tried to deny it, but Niki was right, again. She was on a roll. Niki added, Besides, you might pick up a hot rich guy at this function.

Michelles pace quickened as her stomach tied into a knot, I dont need a hot rich guy. Im engaged, remember?

Niki yelled impatiently as she stepped in her sisters path, Michelle! When are you gonna get over that? Its been, what? A year! She couldnt understand why her sister couldnt let down the burden she was carrying with her all this time.

Michelle changed the subject, brushing away what Niki said, Lets go. Bobby wants us to be home for dinner.

Sighing, she reluctantly followed Michelle who instantly climbed aboard a taxi.

It was the morning after and at the crack of dawn, the suns rays reflected off the mirror in Michelles room hitting her in the face. She rolled over onto her side and her eyes accidentally fell upon the calendar hanging on the wall. This same day a year ago, was the day her life changed forever. Michelle didnt feel like she had the energy to get up. She layed motionless on her bed with the covers pulled over her head.
---
Michelle, are you up? We have to report to the station at 9:00 today, Niki yawned as she rubbed her eyes. Hearing no answer coming from the other side of the room, she looked over towards her sisters bed only to find the covers and pillows tossed all over the place and Michelle was nowhere to be seen.

Niki quickly scooted off her own bed and ran into the kitchen screaming, Michelle, where are you? Why didnt you wake me up!?

Whoa, calm down Drama Queen, Michelle isnt here, Bobby said as he looked up from his morning newspaper.

Where could she be? Niki said, slumping down onto a chair.

Jessica shrugged as she picked up a mug of coffee, I don t know. Whats the big deal, anyways? Its only 7:00 and you guys dont have to be at work till 9:00 today.

Are you sure shes not in the shower? Niki didnt know why but a rush of worry swept through her body.

No, thats Vicki. Why are you so worried? Michelles a big girl, unlike you, Bobby teased while turning the page.

Wait a second, what day is it today? Niki said, straining her eyes to see the date printed on the paper.

November tenth. Why? Bobbys voice was monotonous. He was getting tired of his youngest neice blowing everything out of proportion.

Nikis voice trembled as her face went white, Oh my god, todays the day Raymond got into that car accident last year.

Coming, keep your pants on, Ron gargled with his toothbrush still in his mouth. He fled to the door in his pajamas, not having time to change.

Do you know where Michelle is? Jessica asked frantically once Ron swung the door open .

No, why would I? Ron defended, thinking she was suspicious of his feelings for Michelle.

The whole family is out looking for her, Jessica cried, Were all worried about her because her boyfriend died today last year.

Rons toothbrush fell from his mouth as he shouted, Oh my god, hold up. Im coming with you.
---
Where could she be? Ron shouted as he ran down the street in his pajamas searching for Michelle. His heart was rapidly beating against his chest as he jerked his head is every direction, hoping to catch sight of her.

After a half an hour of wandering aimlessly, Ron was unsure how he somehow ended up at Victoria harbour. Leaning over the railings, all he could see was Michelles reflection in the clear, blue water.

Ron tried to hold back his tears as he closed his eyes and prayed, Please let her be ok.

He slowly walked down the path along the water and as he neared a bench, it was as if his prayer has been answered. Michelle was really in front of him, sitting lifelessly with a vacant stare on her face as she looked upon the blue water.

Ron felt like the angels had led him to her as he sprinted towards the place she was sitting at, calling, Michelle.

It appeared like Michelle didnt hear his call as she continued to gaze blankly at the waves gently slapping the harbour.

Michelle, Ron called again once he stood within a metre of her, Are you ok? You had us worried sick.

Ignoring his presence, she didnt even bother looking up at him. You can leave now. Im fine.

Kneeling down so he could be face to face with her, Ron could see Michelle's eyes were bright red from the sting of her tears. He placed his hands on her face, gently wiping away the tears that were falling steadily down her cheeks.

Pushing his hands away, Michelle whispered, I just wanna be alone right now.

Disregarding her words, Ron sincerely said, Were all worried about you. Come on, Ill take you home.

Do you understand?! I just wanna be alone right now! Michelle cried hastily as she stood up and walked away. She had no idea why she was so angry.

When are you gonna snap out of it? Its been a year since he died! Ron blurted out. His voice had contained anger suffused with worry and pain. He hated himself for loving her and being worried about her, and he hated Raymond for causing her pain.

Stopping dead in her track, Michelle slowly turned around and said tediously, How did you know about Raymond?

Ron took a deep breath and replied, Jessica told me, and Im glad she did...I know it must have left a scare in your heart but that was a year ago...and I know Raymond wont want to see you like this. And hes your past!?

Hes also my future, Michelle said softly with tears rolling down her cheeks. She stared hard at Ron, as thoughts of Raymond flashed through her mind.

He stared back at her and said, Youre wrong. Your future is standing right in front of you...I love you, Michelle!
