She walked across the room to the dining table and sat down across from Bobby. Uncle Bob. I wanna move back to New York. Michelle tired to disguise her emotions in a voice that was dull and monotonous, but her eyes gave her away.
Bobby studied his niece, squinting hard. Why? I thought you were loving it here? Concern was clearly intact in his voice.
Michelle avoided Bobbys eyes and said, I did. But I never realized how much I miss mom, dad, and all my friends back there.
Michelle was the probably the hardest to read out of the four sisters, she was like a closed book at times but Bobby had been there to bottle feed her, photograph her graduation, and hell probably be the person to walk her down the aisle so nothing she does could get past him.
Bobby solemnly asked, Does this have anything to do with the boy next door? The look in her eyes gave him the answer.
A loud screech could be heard coming from the end of the hall. No doubt about it, it came from Niki.
Bobby sighed and said, Listen kid, well talk about this after I deal with our little drama queen.
Michelle gave him a brave smile accompanied by a meek little nod. Bobby gave her a reassuring wink before he left the room to see what Niki was screaming about.

Kevin yawned as he made his way to the kitchen for some coffee. He saw that all his roommates were already awake and were gathered around the television set in the living room with their eyes glued to the morning news.
What time did you get home last night? Louis asked as he eyed Kevin, who was still dressed in the Valentino suit he wore to the banquet the night before. Kevin didnt make it home until the wee hours of the morning and was to tired to lift a finger, attempting to change himself. He still looked extremely sexy with his normally styled hair tousled and a couple buttons undone from his dress shirt with a tie hanging loosely on his manly neck.
I got home exactly five hours ago, Kevin groaned as lifted the coffee pot pouring himself a steaming cup of dark roasted coffee, last night was pure hell.
Uh, buddy, I think you should come see this, Alec interrupted, urging Kevin to come check out what was being broadcasted on the TV. Alecs voice was slow and contained a hint of worry.
Kevin dragged himself to the living room to see what all the fuss was about. After plopping onto the couch, his eyes bulged out from behind the sockets as he saw what shown on the TV screen. It was an image of him hugging Charmaine after the horrendous incident. Anyone couldve mistaken them as a couple who was deeply in love from that shot.
Cold sweat formed on Kevins forehead as he listened to the words of the anchor woman on the 8:00 news, stating, ...after the successful take-down of the kidnappers last night at The Palace, The Japanese Diplomat, Mr. Yoshikawa, had publicly announced that his daughter, Charmaine Sheh, and Superintendent Kevin Cheng will be heading down the aisle shortly...
Dude, youre practically a celebrity, Louis teased as he nudged Kevin in the arm, Dont forget to invite us to your wedding.
Everything was a blur to Kevin as he continued to stare blankly at the screen. Louis would be getting a black eye by now if Kevin wasnt too wrapped up in worry. Anyone could see his bottom lip tremble with fear. He was probably thinking about Nikis reaction. Not pleasant.

You know what? I give up on boys, Niki grunted as she climbed off the back of Michelles motorcycle, from now on Im gonna be a nun!
Michelle nodded and replied, I second that. We dont need stupid boys!?
Michelle and Niki both made a fist, pounding it with each one another in agreement. Forget about being sad, being angry can help a person be way more productive.
All we need to do to get our mind straight it shopping!. Thats the cure for everything! Niki had a smile on her face, but her heart was in little bits and pieces as she thought back to the picture of Kevin and Charmaine together on the latest issue of HK Enquirer.
Michelle was forcing herself to forget was she saw that morning at Rons house, but the harder she tried, the more she cant seem to erase the image of Ron and Tavia in her mind. This was the second time in her life where she had been completely heartbroken.

Sitting in the conference room, the detectives involved in the incident at the banquet the night before listened intently as the Chief proclaimed, The Mayor applauds everyone for doing such an outstanding job last night. As for Kevin, Ron, and Michelle, as a reward for your heroic effort....

Niki! Will you let me explain? Kevin pleaded as he ran after his girlfriend through the hallway right after the meeting.
Niki just turned her head in the other direction, completely ignoring him. The silent treatment was put into play.
Will you hear me out? Doesnt everyone gets a chance to a fair trial? Kevin vouched as he continued trailing after Niki like a lost puppy. How many times do I have to tell you, YOURE the only person in this world who Id rather be with.
She stopped dead in her tracks. The look in Nikis eyes were burning through Kevin as she stated in a voice unusually dull, Im sorry Superintendent Cheng, or should I say CAPTAIN Cheng, I wont be able to make it to your wedding. Im sure Ill be busy that day, so dont bother sending me an invitation!
With that said Niki stormed off into the ladys room, but only after she stomped on her boyfriends foot with her three inch heels.
Kevin stood in the same spot for five whole minutes like a dunce. He couldnt believe this was happening to him. He needed to think of a way to mend things with Niki. Fast.

Michelle, arent you coming with us to celebrate tonight? Fiona asked as the two girls walked side by side back into the unit.
Michelle shook her head and said gravely, Sorry Fi, I dont feel like celebrating.
Is something wrong? And shouldnt you thank Ron for saving your life last night? Fionas eyes were round and thoughtful. She sensed something was bothering her best friend.
Can we not talk about Ron? Ill send him a fruit basket or something. I really dont feel like talking to him, Michelle remarked in a disinterested tone.
Fiona was now positive something was wrong between Ron and Michelle-again.

Alec wrinkled his nose in disgust as soon as he entered his apartment after work and smelling something abnormal seeping from the kitchen to the front door. He took in another whiff of the strong odour lingering in the air and it reminded him of the smell of burnt hair. Louis was probably cooking again.
Dude, I thought I told you to never to... Alec immediately snapped his mouth shut once he saw Vicki appearing from the kitchen dressed in a white apron covered in traces of different sauces. She had a knife in one hand and a ladle in the other.
Hey honey, I though Id surprise you by making you a home cooked meal tonight, Vicki exclaimed cheerfully after placing a quick peck on his lips after she greeting him. Alec hoped her cooking tasted as good as her kisses, but judging from the smell, that was probably very unlikely.
Um-ah, what are you making in there baby? Alecs stomach churned once he spotted a half dead fish laying on the kitchen counter.
Vicki grinned deviously and replied, Its a surprise. I gotta practise cooking so I could cook for you when we move in together. She gave him a quick, playful wink before disappearing back into the kitchen.
I cant wait, Alec muttered sarcastically under his breath.
What did you say, babe? Vicki hollered from behind the fridge.
Uh, nothing sweetheart, I-I-I c-cant wait to try y-your food! Alec stammered as he kicked off his shoes.
- - -
Um, Baby. W-whats this? Alec asked nervously as he shuffled a piece of what looked like an incinerated worm around on the plate with his chopstick.
Placing another plate of so-called food down in front of Alec, Vicki stared at him with round, query eyes and said, Ginger beef. Cantcha tell?
Oh course I could tell! I was just making sure cuz it looks so yummy I thought it was some foreign delicacy! Alecs eyes were wide with fear as he looked at Vickis unamused face.
Tapping her foot impatiently on the ground, Vicki beckoned, Well? Are you gonna eat it or do you need me to spoon feed you?
Alec tried to hide his fear as he picked up the piece of burnt cow up with his chopstick. He held his breath and hesitated as he held it close to his lips.
Yummmm, Alec managed to groan as he tried to chew on what tasted like burnt rubber rolling around on his tongue.
Do you like it? Vicki asked hopefully as she looked at the pain stricken Alec who was sporting a fake smile.
Oh course I do, Alec croaked after swallowing the rubber tasting ginger beef in his mouth, the after taste was even worse. Youre an amazing cook!
Aw, thanks baby, theres more where that came from, Vicki declared happily. She pushed a plate of fish in Alecs direction and said, Here, try my spiced fish fillet.
I cant wait, Alec squeaked. He felt like the ginger beef didnt fully go down and was still lodged in his esophagus and now he had to take in a fish that looked like it was still alive. He held his breath and closed his eyes after carefully placing the slimy thing in his mouth. Just pretend its sushi, Alec though to himself as he forced the piece of fish down past his throat.
Hold on, I have one more plate coming, Vicki said, bouncing back into the kitchen.
Making sure that she was out of site, Alec quickly signalled for the puppy he gave Vicki, which she named Mr. Ruffles, to come over.

Ok stop! Thats enough! Jessica screamed as Louis accidentally scooped a spoonful of sugar in her gingerbread cookie mix. Those gingerbread men are going to be extra sweet this year thanks to Louis.
He was dressed in a red and green checkered apron complete with a pouch that had a picture of a reindeer. Jessica made sure he was full of the Christmas spirit. Louis normally tanned face was covered in white flour from his forehead to the tip of his nose. He would crawl into a hole and die if anyone was to walk through the kitchen door at that very moment.
Louis, can you pass me the sifter? Jessicas command was disguised as a question.
Scratching his head, Louis looked at the pile of utensils layed out on the marble kitchen counter and asked, Uh, whats a sifter?
Jessica looked at the ceiling then rolled her eyes to the very back of her head. A romantic day in the kitchen with her boyfriend baking Christmas cookies was turning into Hells Kitchen.
Never mind, Ill get it myself, Jessica sighed. Louis was useful on the force, but he was dead weight in the kitchen.
Pass me the spatula, Jessica demanded after dumping the sifted flour into a wooden bowl with the other ingredients.
Grabbing the utensil that Louis thought looked like it could have the name spatula, he handed it over to Jessica. She looked like she was ready to rip off the head on every gingerbread man that existed.
Thats a rolling pin, Jessica grumbled. Who was dumb enough to think a rolling was a spatula?
Uh, what about this one? Louis asked hopefully, holding something that he thought looked like a paint brush. Maybe spatula was a fancy word for cooking brush, Louis thought to himself.
Jessica closed her eyes in frustration and cried, Thats a PASTRY BRUSH! Just go stand in the corner until I need you!
Louis lowered his head like a little kid who just got caught doing something naughty and walked over to the corner of the kitchen. We all know who wears the pants in this relationship.
Leaning on the fridge in the corner, Louis smiled to himself as he studied Jessicas adorable face scrunch up into a scowl as she pounded on the dough. For once, she didnt look like a stone-cold career woman. Instead she actually resembled a soft-hearted housewife, his housewife. Louis felt like he could really spend the rest of his life with her.
- - -
After combining the ingredients into a large bowl, Jessica commanded, Pre-heat the oven to 175 degrees. Can you handle that?
Nodding his head enthusiastically, Louis immediately scooted over towards the oven, turning the knob to the temperature Jessica asked for. He was glad he was finally doing something to help her.
Just as she was whisking her liquid ingredients, the ringing of the phone could be heard coming from the living room.
I think thats my mom calling from New York. You stay here and stir the molasses and egg yolk in this separate bowl here. Dont touch anything else until I come back! Jessica ordered as she pulled the baby pink apron over her head.
Yes Madame! Louis chirped, making a salute motion. Jessica couldnt help but crack a smile at her dorky, yet lovable boyfriend.
- - -
Wow, you actually did something right for once. Now I can conserve my energy for something useful instead of using it to yell at you, Jessica teased once she re-entered the kitchen to find Louis doing exactly what she asked him to.
He had a huge grin on his face after hearing Jessicas compliment. He was glad to see her smiling again. Louis wasnt very fond of Jessicas bad side.
- - -
Okie, the hard part is finally over, she said, wiping the sweat off her forehead with the back of her hand, now its time for my favourite part.
She reached into the top drawer and pulled out a bunch of cookie cutters of little gingerbread men in all shapes and sizes. Louis eyes immediately lit up with excitement. He hadnt done this since he was a kid.

Michelle screamed as she chucked a basketball hard at the backboard as she yelled, Stupid Tavia! STUPID RON! She was pretending the ball was Rons head.
Although it was freezing cold outside, Michelle needed something to help vent her anger. If shopping was Nikis medicine, basketball was Michelles.
Its was already dark out, half the kids from the block had already gone home for dinner. Michelle was the only person running around on the basketball court near her complex. She dribbled from side to side, carelessly slinging the ball hard against the backboard. The ball hadnt gone through the hoop once since Michelle was only using it to take out her anger.
After fifteen minutes of attempting to dunk the ball through the rims, Michelle squatted down on the ground, taking a breather. The cold air was stinging her red cheeks and Michelle could see her breath flow out through her lips as she exhaled.
Thats not the way to dunk. And I thought Shaq was your idol. Shouldnt you learn a thing or two from him? The teasing, masculine voice came from behind Michelle. She quickly turned around only to discover the person she didnt want to see the most, yet he was also the person her heart was longing to see dearly, walking towards her from the other end of the court.
Immediately getting up onto her feet, Michelle turned and walked away in the opposite direction without saying a single word. Not even a single swear word came out.
Seeing that she was walking away from him, Ron quickened his pace to a jog. Catching up to Michelle, he clutched onto her arm and asked, Why have you been ignoring me all day? Is this the way to show gratitude to your life saver?
Bitting down on her bottom lip and narrowing her eyes into an evil glare, Michelle turned her head in the opposite direction. The silent treatment sure was a popular tactic for the Au sisters.
Youre still not talking to me, huh? But Ill make you a deal. Well play a game of one on one. If I win, you gotta tell me why youve been ignoring me. Deal? The look on Michelles face gave him the answer.
First one to make three shot wins! Grabbing the ball from her hand, Ron dribbled to the other end of the court, dunking it into the basket.
Hey cheater! You never said when to start, Michelle shouted as she ran after Ron.
Ron grinned and replied, Alls fair in love and war. And I think I might have already won, Youre talking to me now.
Michelle sneered at Ron as she tried to steal the ball away from him. He quickly made a pass from one hand to the other behind his back. With that move, he caused Michelle to press up against him voluntarily. The sweet scent from her hair was hypnotizing.
With Ron in his trance, Michelle seized the opportunity and stuck out her leg, tripping him then grappling the ball away.
Ha, she taunted, I guess its a tie now.
You cheated! You tripped me, Ron growled as he got up and dusted himself off.
Michelle stuck out her tongue and mocked, Alls fair in love and war, remember?
Just as Michelle was about to make another shot at the basket, Ron did a mini hip-check, grabbing the ball away from Michelle and dribbled towards her basket, scoring a three pointer.
Ron flashed Michelle his most dashing grin, flicking his nose with a thumb in triumph. One more then I win, he exulted.
Ron could see the vein popping out of Michelles neck and her face contorting into a scowl as she said in a small, wrathful voice, Well see.
Just as she struggled to steal the ball away from Ron, Michelle tripped on a random rock and came towering down face first onto the cement taking Ron down with her on the way. Lucky he was there to be her cushion. Time was at a halt as their eyes met as she layed on top of him. Ron noted to himself to remember to thank god when he gets home. His prayer had just been answered.
After scrambling to get off, Michelle snatched the ball rolling around on the ground next to Ron.
Well I guess its a tie again, Michelle boasted after making a another shot .
Ok, no more Mr. Nice Guy. With that said, Ron dashed towards Michelle who was juggling the ball in her hands. Picking her up, he ran towards the other end of the court with Michelle in his arms.
She was too surprised to utter a single word. A small dimple appeared on her cheek as Michelle tried to hide her smile from Ron.
Placing her down gently on the ground when he reached the other end of the court, Ron snatched the ball in her hands. Before Michelle could realize what was going on so she could counter attack, Ron had scored the winning shot.
Well, I guess I win, Ron gloated. He could tell she was half surprised and half pissed off from the staggering expression on her face. His eyes widened as a cheeky smile formed on his handsome face,Remember your part of the bargain? If I win...
Ok, ok. What do you want? Michelle grunted. She got up and strutted towards a nearby bench with Ron close behind.
Rons tone went from playful to serious as he looked at Michelle square in the eye, askingWhy have you been ignoring me? What did I do wrong now?
Michelle didnt bother beating around the bushes and got straight to the point, Why were you fooling around with Tavia? Michelle could feel her face redden. That was the most stupid question shes ever asked anyone. Its wasnt any of her business.
Ron felt like he was about to get a heart attack. His eyes widened in disbelief as he continued to stare at Michelle like she was insane.
Damn woman, are you crazy? Eww...I wasnt fooling around with Tavia? Ron bellowed as she suddenly shot up from the bench.
I saw with my owns eyes and heard with my own ears. She was dressed in only a towel when she answered the door to YOUR apartment this morning. She said I was disturbing her morning shower with you. Michelle wanted to vomit as she re-called the event.
Ron was about to explode as he looked at the stubborn expression on her face. He hated being framed, and he especially hated it when Michelle and him kept on having misunderstandings. Ron forced himself to calmly sit back down on the bench beside her. He told her actual story from the drunken encounter to him sleeping on the couch, hoping to clear his name.
...You can even ask Sonija! I swear we did nothing! I see her as a sister, but after this, Im not sure what I see her as, Ron asserted rubbing his temples.
How do I know if youre the one telling the truth? Michelle questioned tenaciously as she sat with her arms crossed over her chest with a slight pout on her pretty face.
Ron took a deep breath and replied, Because I love you.
Prove it, she challenged, standing up from the bench.
Before she could turn around and walk away, Ron grabbed her arm, pulling her closer so that she was facing him.
His two hands quickly made its way to Michelles face, cupping her cheeks gently but assertively. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath then forcefully placed his lips on hers.
Michelles eyes were round with astonishment as she suddenly felt their mouth touching. Her mind told her to push him off but her heart said to do otherwise. She gave in to her emotions and finally closed her eyes and returned the affectionate kiss with equal passion.
Michelle could feel Ron suckling gently on her bottom lip as she caressed the back of his neck with one hand while placing the other hand on his chest for balance. Despite the bleak cold air, the taste of her soft, cherry lips was the only thing on his mind. The passionate moment came to an end when their lips slowly parted.
Breathing heavily to catch his breath, Ron leaned forward so that his forehead was slightly touching Michelles.
Ill make you the second happiest person on earth, Ron whispered.
Second happiest? Michelle teased as she looked deep into his alluring eyes.
Ya, because youll make me the happiest person in the world... tilting his head to one side, Ron delicately layed another sweet kiss on her lips.
