Three Doors Slamming and a Message in a Bottle

This is so corny, Ron groused as he gazed dully at his reflection in the body length mirror, I seriously dont see why I have to wear a dress shirt and complete with a hot pink tie to pick up your parents at the airport.

Michelle pouted as she adjusted the florescent tie dangling loosely around her boyfriends neck, Do you want to make a good impression on my parents or not? Daddy loves guys who are clean cut and mom loves a little pink on men. Its like shooting two birds with one stone.

Babe, I dont think me comparing your parents to birds is the solution here. Cant I just stick to my jeans and hoodies?

Rons power of persuasion wasnt very affective. Michelles sweet smile turned into a deadly scowl as she yanked hard on the tie, yelling, Fine! Go ahead and dress like a bum!

With that said, she stormed off out of the high end fashion boutique, but not without slamming the door first.

Sighing, Ron plopped down in the stool and rubbed his temples, Must be the time of the month.

Awwwyou look so cute in a Tutu! Niki gushed as she pulled out an old photo album full of Kevins baby pictures.

Give me that! He cried in embarrassment while trying to steal the book from his girlfriend.

Shoving out her bottom lip, Niki sighed, Finee. But I get to see it when were done cleaning this pig sty.

She quickly ran to his desk, opened this bottom drawer and began going through it like she was searching for gold.

Sweetie, I didnt ask you to come over here to make a bigger mess in my room. Youre supposed to be helping me clean it out. Kevin groaned as he bent down to pick up a pair of shorts she carelessly tossed behind her shoulders.

Shaking her head, Niki sighed, What would you do without me? Half the stuff in this drawer is from the 1800s. Why do you still keep it?

For you information, Miss Niki, that stuff is my memories of high school. It made me who I am today, Kevin said sternly as he picked up a medal he won in his senior year, reminiscing his glory days, Did you know your boyfriend was the star if the Senior Varsity Volleyball team?

Ok, ok. I get it. You can stop bragging now. I know youre the bes Niki abruptly paused in the middle of her sentence as an old photo buried at the bottom of the drawer caught her eye. She could feel heat rush to her head as she studied the old picture in her hands. Who and what the hell is this? Niki wasnt very good at containing her temper.

Sensing trouble ahead, Kevin immediately shot up from this spot and scurried over toward his girlfriend. Cold sweat dripped from his forehead as he caught sight of the photograph Niki was holding.

Hey! Give it back! Niki screeched after Kevin snatched the photo from between her fingers, You still havent told me who the girl in the photo is!

Nobody! Shes just an old friend, Kevin cried in anxiety, thats such an old photo. I dont even remember her name!

Oh ya? Why do you guys look so lovey dovey in this picture huh!? I thought Mandy was your first and ONLY girlfriend before me? Steam shot out from either side of Nikis ears as fire escaped through her nostrils, I hate you! You liar!

Kevin winced as the loud sound of the door slamming erupted in his face.

Mm-mm. This is so good, Louis gurgled in between chews, gobbling down a piece of black forest cake. You can count on him to make a pig of himself at what was supposed to be a romantic and meaningful outing.

While Louis was busy stuffing his face full of cake samples, his soon-to-be wife was on the other side of the room picking out the wedding cake for their reception.

Hmm. I dont know if this cake in wedding-y enough, Jessica said as she flipped through the bakerys photo album, and Im not a fan of fountains and bridges either.

The manager smiled politely as she pointed to and suggested a three layered cake decorated with lace and butterflies, If youre looking for elegance, I would recommend this one.

Jessica bit her bottom lip and studied the image the lady was pointing at, trying to imagine it sitting at her wedding. She finally shook her head and replied, Im sorry, but lace and butterflies arent really my cup of tea.

The manager smiled sweetly and pointed to another picture. She was young once and understood what goes on in the mind of a young bride for her wedding: nothing but the expectation for perfection, after all, this event only comes up once in a life time.

This time the lady showed Jessica a four layered cake decorated with roses with pipe scroll designs on the side. How about the butter cream Tower of Roses? Roses can highlight the elegance of the wedding and they would make an excellent contribution to your theme of romance.

Once again, Jessica shook her head. She sure was hard to please when it came to her wedding, but which bride isnt?

This cake is much too common for me and I think roses are toogeneric, too common. I want something unique and classy--like my fianc over there.

You mean him? The lady asked, pointing to Louis who shoved another piece of cake in his mouth.

Jessica wanted to dig herself a hole to crawl into as soon as her eyes fell upon her boyfriends chocolate stained face.

Hey baby! You gotta come try this. Its almost as good as yours!

It blew her mind how Louis could talk and chew at the same time without choking.

Furiously digging into her purse, Jessica rushed up beside him and angrily shoved a tissue in his face.

Youre supposed to be helping me pick our wedding cake, not shoving your face full of tiramisu! Jessica hissed.

Louis defended, But I am helping you. Im taste testing these cakes here. You dont want our cake to taste like ass do you?

Only you would know what ass tastes like!

Lucky the doors of the bakery was made of durable glass or else it wouldve shattered into pieces from Jessicas slam after exiting the little shop. Louis just continued to stand in the bakery with a stupefied expression on his face as he scratched his head in puzzlement.

Youre lucky youre pretty, the Lady said shaking her head in pity.

Fiona wandered aimlessly through the street with the picture of last nights event still freshly painted in her mind. She tried to force the image of Sammul out of her head, but failed miserably. She would see his face in the most random places as she continued to walk along the stores lining the sidewalk.

Stopping in front of the window to a pet shop, Fiona smiled as she saw a little brown beagle scratching his ear with his hind leg. Fearing strangers, the little puppy scurried to hide behind his mother as soon as it saw her looking at him.

Even you dont wanna see me, Fiona mumbled through a pout.

Heaving a heavy sigh with a small shrug, she continued down the street with her head down and her eyes fixed on her shoes.

Oh. Im sorry, Fiona said without looking up as she unexpectedly bumped into someone. Her eyes were still glued to her sneakers.

An oddly familiar voice suddenly spoke out, asking Fi?

Fiona regretted taking her eyes off her shoes since the person she saw was someone she wanted to both kiss and kill.

She immediately turned her heels and ran off into the other direction, leaving Sammul standing dumbly in the same spot. Seeing his face had caused Fionas flame to ignite, making her want to explode.

Fi, wait! I wanna talk to you, Sammul said cried as he desperately ran after Fiona, will you please listen to me? Clasping onto her arm once he reached her, Sammul twirled Fiona around making her stand face to face with him.

Listen to you? When have you ever listened to me? You didnt even know I existed! Fiona didnt know why she was so outraged by his appearance, she rarely got mad at anyone. It took all her will power to refrain from kicking Sammul in the weak spot.

Of course I knew you existed. I-I just didnt know you had feelings for me, Sammul refuted, still holding on to her arm without realizing it.

Brushing his hand off her arm, Fiona yelled, Of course you didnt know I had feelings for you, all you could see was Michelle!

Once she started she couldnt stop. Fiona continued to scream, hoping to release what she had kept bottled up inside for so long.

You knew she didnt love you and you kept on insisting and persisting, telling yourself you had a chanceand that was what I was also doing. Im no different from you. But you know what? I dont want to be like you anymore. Im just gonna leave taking whats left pf my heart with me! Fiona could feel tears roll down her cheeks steadily as she slowly backed away from Sammul.

Fiona, Im sorry. You brought vision to my sightless eyes! Please just give me a chance? Sammul pleaded. Tears stung his eyes as he looked at her. Each tear she cried was a knife to his heart.

Feeling like she lost all her breath from screaming, Fiona managed to gather whats left of her voice and whispered, Im not Michelles understudy.

Sammul knew Fiona meant more to him than a rebound but he couldnt blame her for thinking that way. Time slowly ticked away as they stood motionless, facing each other with no words left to say.

Good bye, Sammul. Fiona said softly, turning her back toward Sammul then slowly walking away.

He just continue to stand still in the same position, watching her shadow getting further and further away from him.

Run after me you idiot! Fiona thought to herself as she squeezed her fist into a tight ball while she walked further away from Sammul.

Just as she was about to turn the corner, Fiona heard a sudden skid coming from a large vehicle, followed by a loud crash with sounds of shattering glass. The sound sent shivers down her spine.

Fiona jerked her head around in curiosity to discover a crowd of people hovered over a blood stained body, lying lifeless underneath a trucks front tire. She couldnt make out the face of the injured person, but she could recognize Sammuls familiar sneaker lying directly beside the truck. Fiona hoped her eyes were playing tricks on her. Her heart raced as she sprinted madly towards the accident to get a closer look.

Sammul! Fiona yelled as she neared the crowd of people surrounding the scene of the accident.

She could make out the voice of a woman saying, The poor boy. He was so young and had his whole life ahead of him.

SAMMUL! Fiona yelled louder as she shoved people out of the way once she reached the same spot she left him at, I love you! Please dont leave me! I promise Ill forgive you, just dont leave me.

But Im not going anywhere, a sudden voice suddenly spoke, drowning out the sound of ambulance sirens and people screaming.

Jerking her trembling body into the direction of the voice, tears flowed out of the corner of her eyes as she made out Sammuls face, blurry behind her tear covered eyes.

B-b-but I thought you were Fiona felt her body fall limply into Sammuls arm.

Im right here. The truck was about to crash into me but it suddenly made a sharp turn into the other direction. I tried to run to rescue that man, but it was too latethats why one of my sneakers

Shut upjust never scare me like that again, Fiona whispered, as she buried her face into Sammuls chest, letting his shirt soak up all her tears.

Sammul closed his eyes as he gently stroked her soft hair, I wont, I promise.

Vicki, can you help me and Alec with the food? Were not gonna be ready in time for your stupid house warming if you keep fiddling with those damn vases, Bobby grumbled as he wiped the sweat on his forehead with a flour covered apron.

Vicki continued to arrange her flowers, not even bothering to flutter an eye lash, Well Uncle Bob, you did say I was a disaster in the kitchen so Im just doing my part to help you guys by keeping out of your way.

Alec smiled contently as he continued whipping the batter, Just leave her be, we can handle this ourselves.

When are you gonna get some backbone. Youre the man of the house remember? She should be the one in here slaving away, Bobby protested, as he vigorously rasped the flipper against the wok.

Oh stop your bellyaching. I bet youre gonna be the same way when you find your dream girl, Alec said with a dreamy, starry gaze in Vickis direction.

The door bell echoed through the apartment, interrupting their conversation.

In the kitchen, Bobby could make out Vickis voice exclaiming, Oh hi, Sonija. Glad you could make it!

No problem, HunWow, you look greatAnd oh! Heres your housewarming gift, Sonija said as she and Vicki exchanged brief kisses on the cheek.

Aww, you shouldnt have, Vicki beamed, accepting the delicate picture frame still wrapped in bubble wraps from Sonija, And you look great too, I love your Chanel skirt.

Bobby could feel his heart throbbing violently against his chest as soon as he heard Sonijas voice. Immediately pulling his baby pink apron over his head and quickly splashing his face with water, Bobby rushed out into the living room to greet his dream girl before Alec could throw in a tease.

He leisurely walked into the room with a slow strut, saying, Oh hi, Sonija. I didnt know you were coming. Bobby tried to hide his feelings behind a casual tone, but the sparkle in his eyes gave him away.

He could feel his heart melt as Sonija smiled at him sweetly, replying, Hey Bobby, I could smell the wonderful aroma as soon as I entered the apartment. Watcha cooking?

Bobby could feel his ears burn and his cheeks flustering wildly as he stuttered, I-uhits a surprise.

I cant wait, Sonija said enthusiastically, your cooking never ceases to amaze me. Do you need help in the kitchen?

As a matter of fact I do. Alec is a horrible helper. Hes almost as bad as Vicki.

Bobby ignored his nieces evil glare. Spending time with Sonija in the kitchen was a once in a lifetime opportunity, so Bobby didnt hesitate to answer, nodding his head with a little too much enthusiasm.

As soon as he re-entered the kitchen, Bobby asserted, Youre making a huge mess in here. Go outside and spend some time with your girlfriend. He then grabbed Alec by the collar, throwing him into the living room so he could be alone with Sonija in the Kitchen.

B-but I wasnt finished, Alec exclaimed looking like a deer caught in the headlights.

Bobby shot him an impatient glare, Dont you have something you need to tell Vicki? This is the best time as any to do so.

What?...Oh that! You want me to do it now? Alec asked as his eyes shot wide open.

Yes do it now! Before she gets too drunk to remember, Bobby cried. He looked like he was about to burst in anxiety.

Ok fine. Ill do it. Just dont burn the house down while Im gone, Alec warned while reaching behind to untie his apron.

Bobby flashed Alec a huge, teethy smile, accompanied by two thumbs up, saying, Just leave. Sonija and I can take care of everything. Good luck!

Once Alec was out of site, Sonija asked curiously, Good luck? With what?

Its a secret, Bobby said, grinning happily as he placed a plate in the microwave, youll find out later tonight.

Sonija shrugged as she rolled up her sleeves.

Vicki, lets go for a walk, Alec said, pulling Vicki up by the arm.

Curiosity filled her round, innocent eyes as she questioned, What? Why right now?

I just need to take a breather. You want me to be full of energy to entertain our guests tonight right? Alec was still tugging on his girlfriends arm.

Um, ok. But why do I need to come? Vicki asked, still looking as surprised as ever.

Just come, ok. I promise itll be worth your while. And dont worry, I put Bobby and Sonija in chargeyou know theyre great with people, plus we wont be gone for long.

Giving in to her boyfriends persistent request, Vicki sighed as she reached for her jacket, Youre acting super odd today, but fine. Ill come with.

Alec could feel his body tingle with excitement. He opened the door, letting Vicki exit first before he felt his pocket for the most important object.

The couple walked hand in hand along the beach a couple blocks away from their house. Vicki loved watching the sunset. The last couple weeks had been too hectic for her to take a moment to enjoy anything and she was glad she finally had time to spend with Alec alone. The sea breeze caressed her cheeks as she took in a deep breath of the fresh evening air.

Its such a beautiful evening, Vicki said as she slipped off her heels, letting the soft sand rub against her feet.

Alec pulled Vickis body close to his, placing a gently kiss on her soft cheeks. Its almost as beautiful as you.

Playfully pushing him away, she teased, Stop your flattery. Its getting kinda lame.

You know you love my romantic talk, Alec replied. Grinning like a fool, he quickly asked, Hey did you read the papers this morning?

Is this your idea of romantic talk? Vicki asked in a teasing voice, arching an eyebrow.

No, its just that this morning I happened to run across this column about a guy finding a thousand dollar bill in a bottle that floated ashore. Maybe well be lucky like him, Alec said excitedly.

Vicki responded by rolling her eyes and questioning, Oh please, are you sure you werent reading some gossip magazine that you thought was the local paper?

Fine dont believe me, but when we do find a bottle filled with money, youre gonna be sorry. Vicki couldnt help but laugh at her boyfriends wild imagination. She was about to tease him when Alec suddenly cried out, Hey! Theres a bottle right there. He excitedly pointed to a dark green beer bottle that looked like it just floated ashore.

Someone should really clean up this beach, Vicki replied dully after looking into the direction Alec was pointing at, people are littering everywhere.

Come lets go take a look, Alec said, dragging Vicki by the arm towards the bottle that was half buried in the sand, maybe well find at least $5.

The bottle glistened under the sunset like a diamond as the couple got closer and close to it.

Go look in it, Alec urged as he pushed Vicki closer to the bottle, Ill let you keep the money youll find.

Vicki sighed and walked toward the bottle. She couldnt help thinking how cute and excited Alec looked when he saw the bottle float onto shore, so she went along with his childish antics. Vicki couldnt even find a penny on the side walk, so she wasnt expecting to find anything other than sand inside that bottle.

As she knelt down to pick up the bottle, Vicki had to admit she was intrigued to find something rattling around inside as she shook it from side to side. Wow, I think we have something in here.

Open it up, maybe well become thousandnaires, Alec joked while standing behind Vicki with his hands shoved in his pocket. His lips curved into a buoyant, mischievous smile.

Vicki rolled her eyes at how lame her boyfriend was, but at the same time, she also hoped there was something more inside other than sand.

Twisting the cap open, Vicki held the bottle up to eye level to find something in the shape of a dollar bill rolled up inside. Tapping the bottom like she was trying to force out ketchup, a piece of paper fell out through the mouth of the bottle, landing neatly in the palm of her hands. Un-scrolling the piece of paper softly, Vicki could feel butterflies flutter in her stomach as she read the message aloud.

Will you marry me? Awwwsome poor guy must have been trying to purpose to his girlfriend with a message in a bottle Vicki abruptly turned around to find Alec down on one with knee, reaching into his pocket to pull out a purple velvet box.

Yauhthe poor guys is me Alec mumbled shyly while his eyes were glued to the white sand. He was too nervous too look at Vicki in the eye and he could feel his face heating up as he opened the velvet box to reveal a glistening diamond ring.

Vicki stood like a statue in the exact same spot, trying to digest the vision that projected before her eyes. It was like a scene from the movie shes adored since she was a little girl.

Vicki, you had me from the moment you first called my name. I couldnt get your sweet voice out of my head, and even today, I can still hear your voice even when Im dreaming. I know wanna hear your voice for the rest of my life. Right now, Im hoping your voice would agree would say yes to the question Im about to ask you. Vicki, will you marry me?

A small, pearl-like tear drop slip down the edge of Vickis cheek as she looked upon Alecs deep, adorable eyes filled with hope and anticipation. He felt like he was kneeling for an eternity, waiting for Vicki to give him answer.

Well, Vicki said in between sniffles, are you gonna put the ring on for me or do I have to do it myself?

It took Alec a moment to comprehend what Vicki was trying to say, with his face blank from confusion, he stupidly ask, Is that a yes?

Vicki tried not to giggle at his stupid response, Yes, you idiot! YES!

Thank you, Alec said, not being able to hold back his tears, he gingerly slipped the ring onto Vickis delicate finger, Ill promise to love you forever and longer.

Sliding her hands onto the back oh his neck, Vicki softly replied, I know you will.
