Chapter 24

A Day With Yoochun

Changmin got to Jeju Island and started his first day of work on Friday at the aquarium. He was both the guide and the educated fish caretaker. His pay was high and he was happy with his job. His work hours were long though, they were from 6 in the morning to 9 in the evening. Since he was almost always at the aquarium, he decided to stay there in one of the suites.

On Sunday, Soo Kyung dressed in a white skirt, a pink top and flip-flops. She took her handphone, her purse and went to Love Boat. Yoochun was already there dressed in white from top to bottom. He also had a white hat on that matched with his outfit. When he saw Soo Kyung coming he smiled at her and waved.

"Hey!" he called. Soo Kyung walked up to him and smiled.

"Where are we going first?" she asked.

"I was thinking of the beach first when it's not that sunny in the morning hours," he answered.

"Then the beach it is," she said and they walked down to the beach. Since it was a bit early, there were only a few families out playing together in the sand.

"The beach is really beautiful,"Yoochun said.

"Yeah, I know. The water is really blue," she said. Suddenly she felt something weird in her heart and stopped walking.

"What's wrong?" Yoochun asked. It was Changmin. Whenever she walked by the beach, it always made her remember Changmin. The day they spent watching the sunset was stuck in her head again. She didn't want to tell Yoochun but his face was pleading for the answer.

"Is there something behind the fact about walking by the beach?" he asked again. He knew that something was wrong with her since her face got blank.

"Yes," she answered.

"Heartbreak?" he asked. 'How can this guy know?'Soo Kyung wondered. She gave in.

"Yes," she said again.

"Yea, I know the feeling. Memories of your ex-boyfriend?" he said smiling.

"How do you know?" she asked.

"First, because of the look on your face. And second, I've experienced it too," he said and his smile faded.

"You've also had hard love?" she said. They were now strolling slowly by the water.

"I've never really told anyone about it. It's kind of a secret. I've kept it since we went apart," he said.

"Oh sorry, I shouldn't have asked that question," she apologized.

"It's okay, I tell you anyways. It should be let out. Well, she and I were in deep love. We loved each other more than anyone could ever love. We always came to this beach on Sundays since it was the only day we were both free from school. Our school gave us lots of homework and projects so we can't really do anything on weekdays. Anyways, we loved each other a lot. We would watch sunsets together, make a barbeque for two, and everything you know. We just had so much fun together. That was when we were in highschool. But the happiness didn't last forever. She had to move because of her mother's illness. They went to the States for a better medical treatment for her mother. We knew that something would go wrong with our relationship, and it did. We would email and chat to each other almost everyday when she left. But after about a year, she never contacted me again. I sent her mails but she never replied. I don't know what happened," he said painfully, you could see it in his eyes.

Soo Kyung started to tear up. It reminded her of Changmin and her. They were also deeply in love. It was fate that brought them apart and she could do nothing with it.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have told you this on our first date," he said, wiping off some of his tears.

"It's okay, I wanted to know," she said with a shaky voice.

"Oh, are you crying?" he asked turning his face towards her.

Soo Kyung just smiled. "I miss him,"she said.

"Tell me your side of the story," he said. Soo Kyung hesitated but decided that she should tell her heart out. She had been keeping the pain inside for a long time.

She told him about how they broke up several times and united again. She cried hard on the part where Changmin last broke up with her. She told him everything, even how Changmin looked like and how he hugged her.

"Oh...your story is like that," Yoochun said with a thinking look. He stared out into the sea.

"I guess I'm not the only one who's lonely and sad," he said.

"You got that right," Soo Kyung said, wiping off her tears.

"Now that we know each other's stories, shouldn't we just have fun now?" he said.

"Of course, I don't want to get sad again at this beautiful beach,"she said as a smile appeared on her face.

Suddenly, he grabbed her hands and started screaming and running. Soo Kyung's body flew along with him. She also shouted and laughed along. She didn't know what it was but she was having fun.

"AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!" they shouted as they ran fast on the sand. The others at the beach were looking at them thinking that they had probably gone crazy.

After a while, they stopped running and collasped to the ground. "That was fun," she said.

"I know, a great way to let your heart out," he said.

"Yes, a very very good way. I feel MUCH better," she said.

"You know what, I feel like we've known each other for a long time," he said.

"Hmmmnn," she said.

"Why don't we just hang out like friends today? I think it's best for us. We've both had heartbreaks and I think we shouldn't ask for more. I like being friends with you. I know this is crazy but I still think that she will come back to me one day," he said.

"I know that feeling. I've also always thought that he would come back for me. But he never did, four years. He never came back," she said.

"God, this girl. Let's not talk about our past again, okay? It makes both of us awfully sad. Let's just have crazy fun today," he said.

"I agree, let's have incredible FUN, haha," she said, pulling herself up and Yoochun helped her. They felt their friendship getting stronger, but never felt more than friends.

Then they went to the amusement park. Once again, it reminded her of the time she and Changmin went to the amusement park in Korea, right before the first time they broke up. Yoochun also had his own sad memories but they both didn't say a word since they had promised not to talk about it.

Everything they did reminded them of their loved ones and couldn't stop them from thinking about them even more. But they kept quiet and went on many rides. Finally, when they got sick of the childish rides, Yoochun said,"Let's go to the aquarium."

"Where is that?" Soo Kyung asked with a popsticle stick in her hands.

"Haha, near the beach. We could have gone there before this because it's nearer but I guess I planned it out wrong," he said.

"No problem, we can go there again," she said and Yoochun led the way to the aquarium.

"What's the name of it?"she aksed.

"I don't quite remember. But they say it's one of the best. There are many aquariums on this island," he said.

"Ahh, I see," she said. They walked for a whole 20 minutes and finally arrived to the front gates of the aquarium. The sign read, "The Perfect Place For Sea Animals"

"Oh, I knew that. I was stuck between 'Best Place' and 'Perfect Place'," Yoochun said as he laughed and they walked through the gates.

When they walked in, they heard a guide's voice explaining to the little kids who were up close to the big fish tank.

"....a million years ago, they were known to be the biggest fish on Earth, but now.....," the guide explained. His back was turned so Soo Kyung couldn't see his face. But she knew there was something familiar about it.

"Let's go check out the sharks first. I've always loved sharks," Yoochun said.

"Okay," Soo Kyung said and followed Yoochun. The guide saw them and he looked carefully at Soo Kyung, thinking that it was someone he knew of.

"Wahh....they are so big and fierce," Soo Kyung exclaimed.

"That's why they are my favorite," Yoochun said. Just then, the group of kids came running up to the sharks with the guide behind them yelling,"Hey kids, wait up!"

Soo Kyung turned as she heard the screaming and running of the children. That was when she saw the guide's face. Her heart froze, she hid behind Yoochun.

"What's wrong?" he asked. Soo Kyung pointed at the guide with her finger.

The guide got near them and while walking fast, he said,"Kids, they are just so fast and still cute."

"Why are you pointing at him?" Yoochun asked.

The guide heard him and looked back. "Me?" he asked. He walked to them and said,"Are you guys asking for help?"

Yoochun walked to the side, revealing Soo Kyung. The guide's face went wide shock. He turned around and started running towards the kids, leaving Yoochun thinking,'weird'.

"What's wrong Soo Kyung?" he asked again.

"That, that guide, is Changmin, my ex-boyfriend I haven't seen for 4 years," she said and started crying. Yoochun hugged her and they stayed like that for a long time. It was a friendly hug but Changmin from the other side, was eyeing them secretly.
