Chapter 12
Make a Decision
(Still Wang Zi’s P.O.V)
“Gui Gui,” Ting said, “please escort Wang Zi to the nurse’s office.” Gui Gui nodded and got out of her seat. My hand clutched onto her’s...not letting go...i don’t know why. But Gui Gui also clutched onto my hand. It only caused the little bits of glass that was still on my hand to cut deeper into my skin, but I didn’t care. I was just wondering why she had gone through the pain of brushing away the glass on my hand, even though she knew it would cut herself. I've never had anyone sacrifice theirself for me before...
“Aaron,” Ting went on, “please grab a cloth to clean your table with.”
He nodded and got up to go get a rag to wipe the blood. Gui Gui and I ran out of the class, towards the nurse’s office. I tried to let go of her hand, but she kept holding onto mine, pulling me with her.
Blood wet the ground as we ran down the hallway. When we finally got there, Gui Gui pushed the door open, and we entered. She finally let go of my hand. “What happened?” Tian Yi (the nurse) asked. I was about to answer, but I saw a tear run down Gui Gui’s face. “Did it really hurt her that much?” I thought, “did it hurt her so much...she cried...?” the more I thought about it, the more I felt remorseful... Then I remembered that Liu Liu Rong Jia had spilled chemicals on Gui Gui, it probably got into Gui Gui’s eyes. I hid my hand behind my back, “Please examine Gui Gui first.” Tian Yi nodded, and told Gui Gui to take some sleeping medicine, so she wouldn’t feel pain. Gui Gui shook her head, “I was only suppose to escort Wang Zi here.” “Wang Zi?” Tian Yi began, “Why? What happened?” “His hands got smashed, along with two glass beakers,” Gui Gui answered.
Tian Yi and I walked into the other room, leaving Gui Gui in the first room. “Tian Yi,” I began, “please go examine Gui Gui. Chemicals got into her eyes.” “But,” Tian Yi began, “what about you?” “Go examine Gui Gui,” I said again, “please.” Tian Yi nodded and walked back to the first room.
I thought to myself... “Aiyo, why am I doing all this for Gui Gui? IS it for Gui Gui? I don’t even know her that well... Or...am I just doing this for her...because she was the first and only person to sacrifice something for me...” Tian Yi came back, “Wang Zi, Gui Gui is asleep. Now you have to make a decision. Do you want me to tend to her first? Or examine your hand and bandage it up, THEN tend to Gui Gui?” Which do you choose?” I didn’t even think about it, I didn’t have time to think about it, “Go do whatever you can, to help Gui Gui.” Tian Yi and I walked back to Gui Gui’s room. She examined Gui Gui again, then x-rayed her eyes and her left hand that had glass all over it. Tian Yi washed the glass away with water, then she dropped a couple of eye drops from a little cup into Gui Gui’s eyes. She wiped Gui Gui’s hand with a cloth, which had another chemical that she said would react powerfully against the chemicals from the beakers. Then she bandaged Gui Gui’s left hand. “Wang Zi,” Tian Yi began, “that was a very smart decision. If I were to tend to you first, Gui Gui could've gone blind because of the chemical, because it would've been too late.” I smiled, “Yea, I make the best decisions when I'm rushed.”
After my hand got examined and bandaged, Tian Yi said, “I’ve lived for fifty-two years...and nothing like this has ever happened.” “What happened?” I asked. “Wang Zi,” she began, “this is bad news...but...since you told me to tend to Gui Gui first...you can no longer use your right hand for the time being. You’ll have to wait until it heals first...because I got to you too late. If I examined your hand, and tend to it first, it wouldn’t have gotten infected by the chemicals. Then again, if I DIDN’T tend to Gui Gui...she’d have gone blind, and her left hand would've gotten infected” “So...” I began, “it was a matter between life and death?” Tian Yi nodded, “Like I said...I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve never seen anyone who’d pick someone else over theirself... . Also...you're lucky you're hand didn’t have anymore glass on it. It would've sinked into your skin, and your hand could've been paralyzed. But...now you can't use your right hand for anything. Like driving...or sports...or anything else that involves your right hand.”
*Flashback*
She pulled her, left, uninjured hand out from under my hand. Her right hand held onto my right wrist, as her left hand brushed away the remains of glass on my right hand that was bleeding. The glass that she was brushing away with her left hand also cut into her hand, but she ignored it. Liu Liu Rong Jia stepped away, not wanting to be involved in the ‘accident’ anymore. Aaron ran over to Gui Gui and kept telling her to stop, that she was cutting herself, but she didn’t care; she still continued to brush away the glass that covered my hand.
*End of Flashback*
I sighed, “Yea, wo zhi dao.” “If you involve your hand in anything, it would have a 75% chance of becoming crippled,” Tian Yi added, “it is very delicate in this phase.” I repeated, “Zhi dao.” “As for your car,” she said, “would you like for me to call for someone to pick it up?” I nodded, “Yea, since I don’t know if my right hand can pick up the phone or not. Oh, and please tell Gui Gui to report back to the class when she wakes up.”
(End of Wang Zi’s P.O.V)
I woke up in the nurse’s office, and sat up in bed, examining my left hand. “Hello there, Gui Gui,” the nurse said, “I'm Tian Yi, the nurse of this school.” I looked at her... why does she look so familiar...? “Oh!” I exclaimed, “I remember now! Weren’t you at the principles funeral?” “Yea,” Tian Yi replied, “...he was like a younger brother to me; I was like an older sister to him.” “Really?” I asked. “Of course,” she answered, “we knew each other so well...OH! But Gui Gui, you should be getting back to class now.” “Oh, yea. I forgot about that...” I said, “then...bye, Tian Yi. And xie xie.” I walked to the door, placed my hand and the handle, and was about to open the door, but Tian Yi called out, “Gui Gui.” I removed my hand from the handle as I turned around, “Yea?”____________
