Chapter 15
Mourning
We stood in the dark...in silence. No one talked, no one laughed, and not even the bugs dared to make any noise. I got up, and said, “Come on. Let’s go inside, its getting late.” Still, no one moved. “Gui,” Ya Tou was the first to chirp up, “dui bu qi...” “Yea,” Xiao Man added, “the only reason we won't tell you...is because...we don’t want to hurt you.” I smiled, “Oh, its okay. As long as you guys believe it’s to protect me...i can put my heart at ease.” “Gui Gui,” Da Ya began, “dui bu qi.” I looked at them, and saw that they were crying. “Aiyo,” I remarked, “its okay. I forgive you guys.” I hugged them, “Come on. Lets go inside. We have two Dares to carry out tomorrow.” Da Ya laughed, “Gui Gui, are you really going to ask Wang Zi?” I nodded, “Yep. Xiao Xun won't be content if I don’t.” “Oh,” Xiao Xun started, “Gui Gui, you don’t have to carry out that dare anymore.” I looked at her, “Really?” Xiao Xun nodded in the dark. “Oh, xie xie, Xiao Xun,” I thanked her. “So...” Da Ya began, “do I still have to do MY dare?” “Yea,” I told her, “your’s is still on. You’re not getting away that easily.” “Aw, Gui Gui,” Da Ya pleaded as we walked inside.
I woke up in the middle of the night. Xiao Jie them were still asleep, and it was pitch dark. I slowly made my way to the balcony. I opened the sliding door, and set foot out on the balcony. I walked over to the telescope, and looked inside. My Lucky Stars...they shone, brighter than ever. “Pa,” I began, “Grandpa, what are you two so happy about? Why can't I be as happy as you two? Can you guys send Grandma and me happiness? Xing fu...i can't even remember that word anymore. Ever since you two left... Pa, can you two...set my heart at ease? What do Mei Mei them know...that I don’t? Pa, don’t you miss Ma? Grandpa...don’t you miss Grandma...? She probably misses you more than I miss you and Pa together.” I pulled away from the telescope.
*Flashback*
(My 8th birthday)
Grandpa: Gui Gui, do you believe...that when people leave the world...they turn into stars...?
Me: Pa, is that really true?
Pa: Yes, Gui Gui. Its really true. Once Grandpa and I are no longer here...you can use Grandpa’s gift to you to see us.
Me: Then...how are you guys suppose to see me?
Grandpa: We won't need telescopes to see you guys down here.
Me: Well...it’s not very far then...
*End of Flashback*
“Now I can't even see them,” I thought to myself. My eyes filled up with tears. I tried to not let them out...but they ran down my face anyways. I let them fall, I wanted to let Pa and Grandpa see my pain... “Pa, Grandpa...” I began, “why can't you guys help me? Why did you guys leave me? I didn’t realize anything, until it was too late...why can't I turn back the hands of time? I was SO stupid then...i have better grades now...how come I haven't learned to build a machine that will turn back time? I'm really hopeless...” I stopped to wipe away tears. “Pa...Dui bu qi oh,” I apologized, “Dui bu qi... I know you and Grandpa told me to forget the past...to stop holding anger against Ma and...Pa...but...i can't do that. Dui bu qi. I just can't do that...at least, not yet. I feel such remorse building up inside me...but I can't do anything about it.” I stood quiet...crying to myself... “Pa, Grandpa. You two missed so much of my life...although it only seemed like yesterday that you were gone. I have so many problems that Ma doesn’t know about. She probably wouldn’t care. Pa...Grandpa...who should I love? I like Wang Zi...but...I'm trying to seek true love. And...I guess...my true love is suppose to be Aaron. I don’t even LIKE Aaron. I just want to be friends...how come we can't just be friends...? Pa, Grandpa...Help me...please...?” I broke into more tears as I still looked at my Lucky Stars. They weren't shiny anymore... they were blinking faintly. “Pa,” I began, “Grandpa. Don’t cry...if you cry...i’ll only feel worse.” They still blinked though... “Aiyo,” I said after a few quiet sobs, “its ok. We can cry together then.”
It wasn’t long until I stopped mourning, and went back inside to go back to sleep.______________________
