Chapter 24

Nothing More

“So...” Tian Yi began, “that’s all that’s happening in your life? All that’s happened so far...?” “Oh,” I answered, “mei you, it goes on.”- I swung the container, and it flew backwards, out of my hands. I dared not look up to see Tian Yi’s reaction. Instead, I stared at the ground, waiting for a *CRACK!*...but I didn’t hear anything. “What goes on?” someone whispered into my ear. I quickly turned around, and saw Wang Zi. He shoved the container into my hands. “Here, whatever it is, you dropped it,” he said, “So...what goes on?” “What?” I asked. “You said ‘IT goes on’. WHAT goes on?” “Oh,” I began, “life. Life goes on.” “Whose?” he asked again. “Mine,” I answered.

Wang Zi and I walked back to the front of the school. Da Ya and Ao Quan stood next to each other, not saying anything. Aaron and his friends, Jiro, Calvin, and Wu Zun were constantly whispering back and forth. The limo drove up to Wang Zi and I. Wang Zi still stood where he was, making no attempt to get in. “Why isn't he getting in?” I asked myself. “Open the door,” he said, turning away from me. “Wo?” I asked as I pointed a finger at myself. Wang Zi turned back around, to face me. “Ni,” he answered, “open the door, hurry up.” “Why?” I began, “open it yourself!” Aaron them all stared at us. Robert, who was in the limo, scrolled down the window, “Are you two going to get in, or what?” “Yea,” Wang Zi began, and he stared me in the face, “Gui Gui, are we going to get in, or what??” I put the container of medicine into my bag, then I opened the limo door. Wang Zi laughed at me, “Wow, you're obedient. You actually opened the door.” I got SO pissed, I pushed him inside the limo, and then I slammed the door shut. I got in the front passenger seat next to Robert. “Why aren't you sitting in the back?” Robert asked. I looked out the window as he drove. “I'm trying to restrain myself from killing him,” I mumbled under my breath as I looked in the rearview mirror to see what he was up to. He made funny faces behind my back, trying to piss me off...but he didn’t know...they were more hilarious than funny. “Aw,” Robert laughed, “so kawaii, don’t you think so?” “Tsh,” I uttered, but I REALLY thought it was adorable.
I took out my phone and text Ma:
Ma, I might be home late. Big assignments these weeks. – Gui
P.S Don’t call me. REALLY, don’t. Don’t waste my minutes if you're just going to yell at me. But if Da Ya or Grandma call home, tell them to call my cell.
I threw the phone in my bag, and slumped back in my chair. Robert continued to drive, and Wang Zi finally stopped making faces, and began to study from his textbook. I stared at him, unable to turn my gaze away...his face stood still, in deep concentration...

“Ni hao, Gui Gui,” Mr. Qiu greeted me. “Oh,” I began, “Ni hao.” I bowed, then Wang Zi said, “Come on, Gui Gui. We need to go study.” He dragged me by my arm, and we went upstairs. We sat in the upstairs living room and he opened the textbook in front of us, “Study.” I reached into my bag, to pull out a pencil. Instead, I got the container of medicine. “Wang Zi looked at it, “What is it?” “Oh,” I began, “you needn't worry about it.” “Medicine,” Wang Zi mumbled. “How did he know??” I thought. “Well,” I began, “now that you already know, there’s no holding back. The medicine is from Tian Yi, its for our hands. Its cancels out the chemicals that got into our hands.” “I'm not putting it on,” Wang Zi remarked.
*Flashback*
“What's it for?” I asked. “Your hand,” Tian Yi answered, “and Wang Zi’s. You’ll have to remind him to put it on. Its medicine that is strong enough to cancel out the chemicals that got into your skin, and infected your hand. You must put it on everyday, and REMIND Wang Zi to put it on. Not even a surgery can get out the chemicals in his hand as good as this medicine can.” I nodded, “Ok. I’ll remind Wang Zi to put it on.” “Oh,” she went on, “Wang Zi came in right after school, because I called for him. His hand is getting worse, but not bad enough that it’ll become crippled, yet. Please watch over him, and make sure he doesn’t use his right hand for anything else. Not until it heals. And if he refuses to put it on, well...just do whatever you can...to make sure he gets it on his hand.”
*End of Flashback*
“Why?!” I asked, suddenly raising my voice, “Why!? Put it on, you HAVE to!” “Why?” Wang Zi asked, making it sound like a trick question, “why should I?” “It-it,” I stuttered, “it helps your hand. It cancels out the chemicals, it HEALS your hand!” He got up, and I got up after him. He walked over to the huge glass window. I followed after him, curious to see what he was going to do next. “You think I really CARE about my hand?” he asked, still facing the HUGE window. I kept a careful eye on him, not daring to look away. “Do you?” I asked, and I saw a smile spread across his face, a smile...with no emotions.
Instead of answering me back, he lifted his right, injured hand, made a fist, and SWUNG at the huge glass window. “Wei!” I exclaimed, and I clenched onto his right arm, not letting it hit the glass window. He restrained himself, and jerked his arm away from my grip. He slowly turned to face me, and leaned towards me, so we were eye to eye. Then he whispered in a crude tone of voice, “WHY do you care so much about me?” This time, it really DID sound like a trick question. I didn’t want to say or do anything to give him any sort of clue that I liked him...yet, so I looked away, not wanting to make eye contact. “I'm your bodyguard,” I answered, still looking away, “as your bodyguard, I can't let you do this to yourself. I can't...” “Why not?” he asked again, “the pain that WOULD'VE been inflicted onto my right hand, could never compare to the pain from the past that scarred my life, nothing could ever hurt as much.” I grabbed onto his right arm again, and I was about to say something, but he pulled away. “You're only my bodyguard,” he began, “nothing more than a bodyguard...you won't understand.” Then he walked out of the room, and slammed the door behind him, leaving me by myself.
“You make it seem like I don’t have a heart of my own,” I mumbled, “well, you don’t understand me either.”
*Flashback*
Wang Zi smiled at me in his sunglasses, “So you understand...?” I nodded and remarked, “Who wouldn’t...?” “EVERYONE,” he answered quickly, “all they talk about is the PAST or the FUTURE...” “That’s because the past...is what haunts the future. It makes the future. What it is...what it will become...all depends on the past.” Wang Zi turned to look at me. I went on, “its okay, I understand how you feel. I, too, don’t want to face the past. But...I believe that one of these days...you’ll have to talk about the past. Eventually, you’ll have to go back to the past. One of these days...” Wang Zi grabbed my wrist. “Zhi dao,” he uttered. I smiled at him, “No one can escape the past.”
*End of Flashback*
“He seems like a completely different person,” I remarked, “what is wrong with him?” I sat back down on the couch, and stuffed the container of medicine into my bag.
*Flashback*
“Do...you...care about Wang Zi?” she asked. I thought for a split second... “DO I care about Wang Zi?...DID I? I've LIKED him...but caring...” I looked down at my left arm...“I really cut it deep all for Wang Zi too.” “A lot,” my mouth spoke for my heart. “Then you should know about Wang Zi’s hand,” Tian Yi remarked. “Wang Zi’s hand?” I uttered, “What ABOUT it?” “His right hand got infected by the chemicals that were in the beakers,” she started, “so he can't use his right hand for anything, until it heals...or else...he’ll increase the chances of becoming crippled. Please look out for him, I don’t think he’ll actually follow my directions.” I smiled, “Oh, I will then. Xie xie.”
*End of Flashback*
“Why do I let promises take over my life?” I asked myself. Then I got up and walked downstairs. “Hey, Gui Gui,” Robert called out, “what's up?” “Do you know where Wang Zi went?” I asked. “Up to his room,” Robert replied, “why?” “Oh,” I began, “mei you la.”
I ran upstairs and knocked on EVERY room. It took SO long! But on the twenty-seventh time, I found his room. THE DOOR WAS OPENED! I should've just gone to the room with the opened door first! Gosh, I felt so stupid.
Wang Zi stood out on his balcony, looking down at the ground. I walked over to him and bowed, “Dui bu qi.”
(Wang Zi’s P.O.V)
Gui Gui apologized again, then stood straight, staring right at me.
*Flashback*
“Don’t hurt those that listen and understand you.”
*End of Flashback*
“Are you stupid?” I remarked. “What?” Gui Gui asked. I sighed, “I should be the one apologizing.” Gui Gui smiled, “No, I don’t want you to apologize. I was really at fault. Dui bu-“ “Dui bu qi,” I apologized, “dui bu qi. I really shouldn’t have let my anger out on you.” Gui Gui smiled, “I understand. As crazy as it seems...i understand...” “Dui bu qi,” I apologized again. “Its okay,” Gui Gui said, “but...if you REALLY feel sorry...you’d do me this one favor.” I thought about it for a while.... “What do you want?” I asked her.
