Chapter 26
Another Promise
“Ni...” I began, “you can't leave me. You're my only family.” I began to cry, and she reached up to wipe my tears. I didn’t let her wipe my tears, instead, I held onto her bony wrist. “Grandma,” I went on, “if you leave me, I’ll be like this everyday. I’ll cry my heart out, no one will be there to comfort me...to wipe my tears...” “Gui,” she interrupted me, “I won't leave you. I’ll make it through, for you.” I smiled, then I nodded, “Ok. You probably needed your rest, so I’ll leave now.” She nodded, and I got up. I quietly walked out, making sure to not disturb anyone. I wiped my eyes, so no one would know I was crying, and I walked back to the waiting room.
(Wang Zi’s P.O.V)
Gui Gui made her way towards us (Me, her mom and dad) and no one said anything. “How’s everything” I asked her. Gui Gui smiled, “It’s great. I just feel...exhausted.” I laughed, “Yea, that’s what happens when you're my bodyg-“ Gui Gui fainted into me, and I caught her. Her mom and dad rushed towards us, and began yelling for the doctor.
She was set in the same room as her grandma, but in a different bed. “She just passed out,” the doctor said, “she’ll be alright. Giver her some time to rest.” I nodded as her mom and dad left the room, and then the doctor followed. I walked towards the door, but Gui Gui’s bag fell, and everything in her bag spilled. A piece of paper from her bag landed at my foot. I picked it up, and it read: Ode to Lost Ones. I looked over at Gui Gui, and she was still asleep. I continued to read her poem.
Ode to Lost Ones
It seemed just like yesterday
That you were still here.
Everything that happened
Runs fresh in my mind.
I remember everything about you
And everything you said.
“Live as if there’s no tomorrow,”
you’d say.
So I lived
As if there really WAS no tomorrow.
I forgave and forgot.
But,
When you left the world
I didn’t forgive the world
For taking you
Away from me.
I refuse to forget you.
So, to me, you're still here.
Although your spirit is far away
You're still so close to me.
You still live in the stars
You still live
In my heart.
“Wow,” I thought to myself, “her poem is better than mine. I actually thought her’s would suck...WOW. Looks really CAN be deceiving.”
I put the paper back into her bag, I picked up everything that spilled, and then I went back to the waiting room.
(End of Wang Zi’s P.O.V)
I woke up in the bed next to grandma’s. She was already awake, and she looked over at me as soon as I sat up in bed. “Why’d you pass out?” she asked me. I thought for a while... “Restless nights,” I answered. She stared me in the eye, just to make sure if I was lying or not... “Jun Yin?” she asked. I nodded, it was as if she knew everything that I thought about. I didn’t want to talk about Jun Yin, so I changed the subject. “Grandma,” I began, “who should I like? I really don’t know...” “Are there choices?” she asked. I nodded, “Yea, Wang Zi or Aaron.” Grandma sat quiet for a while. “Isn't...Wang Zi...the president’s son?” she asked me. “Yea,” I answered, “he’s the one that drove me here.” “This late at night?!” Grandma exclaimed, “he must really care about you!” “Tsh,” I uttered, “either that...or he has nothing better to do.” Grandma laughed at my remark. “I'm pretty convinced that he has nothing better to do,” I went on, “and besides, he probably left by now. No one can wait this long.” Grandma laughed, then she said, “Ok, tell me about Aaron.” “Oh,” I began, “uh...well...” “Well???” she asked, being impatient. I laughed, “I’ve never seen you so impatient.” Grandma smiled, “Come on, tell me.” “Ok,” I went on, “well...Aaron...he’s a nice guy, and he listens...he...well...that’s pretty much it... He listens. Not to mention he laughs a lot, unlike Wang Zi, he smiles a lot too. And he’s a nice guy, actually. But...i wonder if he understands me...” “You never know,” grandma began, “until you find out.” I nodded, “Wo zhi dao, but anyways, if he doesn’t understand me...how’s he suppose to be my true love...?” Grandma laughed at me, because I was talking to myself. “Wei,” I exclaimed, “its not funnie! I'm being serious here!” She stopped laughing, then she grabbed onto my arm. “Gui,” she began, “whatever happens, you have to promise me one thing.” I looked into her eyes, “What...would that be?” “Promise me,” she started, “promise me you’ll be with your true love, the one you TRULY love.” And without thinking, I nodded, “You’ve got my word. I promise you I’ll be with my true love...forever...”
