Chapter 28

How it Fell Apart

[Recap]
The guy I punched was still wiping off the blood that poured down his nose. I turned around, to run off, because I was actually REALLY scared of these two, but one of them grabbed my shoulder. He turned me around, and made a fist, ready to swing...
[End of Recap]
I winced, but someone grabbed onto my arm. I looked up just as Wang Zi grabbed hold of the guy that was about to punch me, by the shirt. “Yea,” Wang Zi began, “the guy she was with WAS a dumbass, and he apologizes for being one.” Wang Zi was about to punch him with his RIGHT hand. I grabbed onto Wang Zi’s right wrist, “Wei! You can't use that hand!” Wang Zi let go of the guy, and both of those guys ran off.
He turned towards me, “Dui bu qi.” Dui bu qi...and just like that...i forgave him, COMPLETELY.
I smiled at him, “No, I'm sorry. I shouldn’t have yelled, dui bu qi.” Wang Zi laughed, “Aiyo, don’t apologize. I was CLEARLY the one at fault.” I laughed after him, “No. Well...you...KINDA...were...” he laughed, then he walked over to the nearby bench, and sat down. “Wei,” I said, “why are you SITTING???” He smiled, “You said you didn’t want to go home yet.” I was just about to say something, but Wang Zi stood up. “Just kidding,” he said, “come on, lets send you home.” He walked towards his car, and I ran after him and grabbed onto his shirtsleeve. “I...don’t...want to go home...yet...” I mumbled, not sure if he had heard me or not. I let go of his shirtsleeve, and he turned to face me, “Won't your parents be worried about you?” he asked me. I laughed, “Are you SERIOUS!? They don’t care about me, my mom never did.” Wang Zi didn’t say anything for a while...
“Alright,” he finally said, “I’ll let you stay longer...but you have to tell me about your past. About everything that changed your life...” I nodded, “Okay, I've been wanting to let it out anyways.” I walked over to the bench, and sat down. Wang Zi still stood, “Wei!” I yelled, “I suggest you sit, too. Its gonna be a LONG story if you wanna know EVERYTHING.” He sighed and walked over to where I sat, and sat down next to me. “Fire away,” he said.
I took a deep breath, then I began, and “Everything began on my 8th birthday. My grandpa was very sick already, but he managed to make it to my birthday party. Since my dad was the only child in his family, he cared A LOT for his parents. My mom wanted to move out of the house, because we still lived with my grandparents. Pa refused to move out, because Grandpa was VERY sick...so...you see...it wasn’t a very ‘JOLLY’ birthday party. My older brother, Jun Yin, and I knew the family was falling apart, but we also knew we couldn’t do anything. All we DID do, was hope and wish for the best.
Nothing was going right. The day after my birthday, my mom and dad got a divorce. And in that very same day, later on, my grandpa passed away. I guess...the divorce was too much for him to take. He always said he wanted a happy ‘FAMILY’...
I remember...that night...i found out how it felt...to cry oneself to sleep...my mom claimed both me and Jun Yin...leaving Pa with nothing.”
My eyes filled up with tears, but I continued to tell my story, letting my tears run, “I remember...i didn’t even get to go to my grandpa’s funeral. I missed Pa, Grandma, and Grandpa so much. I didn’t even know which one I missed more. Then...one day...”
*Flashback* [as Gui Gui tells the story to Wang Zi]
*Ring! Ring!!*
*Ring! Ring!!*
Me: Wei?
Voice: Wei? Is your mom there?
Me: Mei-mei you. She’s out.
Voice: Gui Gui?
Me: Yea??
Voice: This is your grandma.
Me: GRANDMA!?
Grandma: Yes, its grandma.
Me: GRANDMA! I missed you and Pa so much!
Grandma: ...Gui Gui, where’s Jun Yin???
Me: Oh, he’s right here! Next to me!
Grandma: Can you put it on speaker?
Me: Ok!...but it might take a while for me to find the speaker button.
(Jun Yin clicked the speaker button)
Me: Ok! Got it!
Jun Yin: Ni hao, Grandma! Where’s Pa?
Grandma: ...That’s the problem...
Me: WHAT!?
Jun Yin: Pa’s LOST?!
Grandma: No...he’s in the hospital...
Me: HOSPITAL!?!?
Grandma: He’s got some sort of fever. The doctor says its bad...but he keeps saying he just needs to see you two.
Me: ...(I began to cry)
Jun Yin: ...Is he okay!?
Grandma: I'm not sure...but i'm sure that he really wants to see you two.
Jun Yin: We’ll tell Ma to bring us there when she gets home.
Grandma: Ok, that’s all. I’ll call you guys again later, to tell you the directions.
Me: (I finally stopped crying) O-ok, then. Bye, Grandma.
Jun Yin: Bye.
Grandma: Bye.
(She hung up)
Jun Yin and I waited and waited, but Ma didn’t come home. Around ten o’clock at night, she finally came, just as the phone rang.
Me: Wei?
Grandma: Gui Gui!
Me: Grandma! – (beep...) Wei? Wei??
“What did she want?” Ma asked me. “Why’d you unplug the phone!?!!” I yelled at her. Jun Yin held me back, “Gui Gui, don’t yell at Ma.” Then he asked Ma, “Ma, Pa’s in the hospital...can we...go...visit him??” Ma didn’t even consider the fact that Pa was sick. She answered right away, “Mei you.” “Why NOT!?” I yelled at her again, tears streamed down my face, “WHY??” “I don’t want to be involved with them,” she remarked, “we don’t know them anymore.” She walked halfway up the stairs, “Come on, it’s late. Go to sleep already.” She went into her room, and left Jun and me Yin by ourselves. He went into his room, and left me by MYSELF. I didn’t want to sleep...not at a time like this...
I woke up, with a rose next to my hand, and a note attached to the rose: Gui Gui, dui bu qi. I know I shouldn’t have left, but I had to go find Pa. If I'm not there for your next birthday...take this rose as my present to you. -Jun Yin
