Chapter 35
Last Shot
[Recap]
“Wang...Zi!?” I asked. She nodded, “He paid for everything.” “Aiyo!” I began, “ok! Xie xie! Gotta go now! Bye!” I ran out the door, down the stairs and out of the hospital.
Wang Zi leaned on the wall, with his hands in his pockets. I ran over to him and hugged him. “Ni...” he began, “what's wrong with you?” “Xie xie,” I mumbled, “xie xie ni.”

He laughed, “I guess...you found the receipt...?” I pulled away, he still had his hands in his pockets. “How much was it...?” I asked Wang Zi. He thought for a bit, “...One...with some zeros...But you don’t need to worry about it.” “Wo-“ I began. “Come on,” he interrupted as he pulled me by my hand, “we have to get going. Aaron and the rest of them are still waiting.”

We entered the coffee shop; no one stirred, no one dared to move. The two guys that held onto the guns suddenly turned and pointed the guns at us. “Hey!” one of them said, “Look! It’s the president’s son!” “And his girlfriend!” the on the one laughed. He walked over to me, and motioned for Wang Zi to go to the ‘other guy’. Wang Zi walked across the room, to the other guy. He pointed the gun at Wang Zi’s head, and the one next to me pointed the gun he held, at my skull. “Hand me your bag,” he said, “or I’ll fire.” “Tsh,” I uttered, and I gave him my bag. It was a good thing my check was in my pocket. The guy went through my bag, with the gun still pointed at my skull. I looked around the room...Da Ya and the rest of them, and the shop keeper were in a corner.
Wang Zi had a gun pointed to his head...but he had no look of fear in his eyes...i was over HERE, practically TREMBLING...then I remembered... TODAY was my LAST day as Wang Zi’s bodyguard. I HAD to protect him...no matter what happens...
I kinda stopped a LITTLE with the trembling, I was STILL scared though... I pushed the guys arm up. he fired a shot at the ceiling, I elbowed him in the guts with all my strength. Then I snatched the gun out from his hands. He tossed the key that he got from my bag, the key to the front gate of Wang Zi’s house, across the ceiling-to his other partner. I aimed at the key...and fired. The key shattered into pieces in mid-air. The guy next to Wang Zi fired a shot at me, but I dodged it as I turned back around to face his partner. I grabbed him by the shirt, and lifted him up. “Shoot the president’s son...” I began, “and I’ll shoot your partner.” I pointed the gun to the back of his skull. “Wait,” the guy next to Wang Zi uttered, “wait. Don’t shoot...lets trade. I’ll trade you your boyfriend, for my partner.” “Alright,” I said, “don’t try anything.” He let go of Wang Zi, and I let go of his partner. When Wang Zi made it by me, and his partner made it to him...he aimed the gun at Wang Zi. I ran in front of Wang Zi, just as the guy shot. The bullet dug into my shoulder, and a bit of blood got on my face, the rest of the blood continued to pour out from my shoulder. Instead of yelling in pain, I took a deep breath, and said, “That’s your last bullet.” Da Ya them were too scared to say anything, but Wang Zi spoke up, “Gui Gui...are you okay...?” I placed my right hand over my left shoulder, because my shoulder began to ache from the bullet that was still in my shoulder. “Yea,” I quickly answered. Wang Zi held onto my left arm, that blood ran down. The guy still pointed the gun at me. “I know,” he finally said, “but...you also have that last shot. That one, last, shot.” I smiled, as blood continued to pour down from my shoulder, “You think I don’t know that?” “I know you know that,” he said, “you're a smart kid...great aim-“ “Thanks,” I interrupted him. “So close to catching us,” he went on,” yet so far...What are you gonna do with that last shot? Either you shoot ME...or my partner...but...you can't get us both.” I smiled, then I lifted the gun halfway up, and fired that one, last, shot. It hit the guy in the ankle, and he yelled in pain. I threw the empty gun at his partner, with all my force, at his partner. It hit his partner right at the side of the head, and he collapsed. The guy that I shot in the ankle threw his empty gun at me, but I couldn’t do anything...my right hand still held onto my left shoulder. It hurt too much to remove my hand...

Wang Zi caught the gun, and dropped it. The shopkeeper called the police, as Da Ya and everyone else ran over to me. Wang Zi led me over to a chair, and I sat down. “Are you okay?” Aaron asked. I nodded and removed my hand from my shoulder. “Ow...!” I muttered. “Ni...” Wang Zi began, “you still have that bullet in your shoulder...” “I know...” I said. “Are you SURE you’re okay?” Aaron asked again. “Yea,” I answered, “I'm not dead...right? A shot to the shoulder can't kill anyone.” The shopkeeper walked over to me and everyone else. “Xie xie,” he began, “xie xie ni.” I looked up at him, “Huh?” “You saved everyone,” he said, “you saved my shop.” “Oh...” I started, “I guess...i did... I only meant to protect the president’s son...” “Your welcome here, anytime,” he went on, “what do you say...free drinks for everyone, tonight.” “That’s not necessary,” I began, “and...besides...i have to go get my shoulder checked.” “Then...” he replied, “I’ll give each of you guys a free drink before you leave.” He left for a bit, and then came back with sixteen cups of Brown Sugar Macchiato. “I know how much you like these drinks,” he remarked. “Are you SERIOUS!?” Mei Mei exclaimed as she took a cup, and everyone else followed after. Aaron picked up a cup and set it in front of me. “Come on,” he said, “if you don’t drink it...no one else will. Then all these drinks will go to waste.” “Wo-“ I began. “You know you wanna drink it,” Wang Zi laughed. “Wo-“ I said again. “For the stores sake,” the shopkeeper said, “come on, please.” I smiled and took my cup. “A toast!” Da Ya exclaimed. “Yea!” Ya Tou added, “to Gui Gui’s last da as Wang Zi’s bodyguard! And to her bravery!!!”

The police arrived, and took the two robbers, and the surveillance camera that caught everything that happened.
It was when I looked at the ground, and saw the shattered pieces of the key, that I realized…I was so afraid of breaking the key…but in the end…I WAS the one that broke it. I shot it. Wang Zi looked at me, “Thinking about the key?” I nodded. “You know…” he began, “funnie thing is…you were so afraid of breaking the key. But in the end…you HAD to shoot it, or someone else would’ve gotten it.” I looked up at him, and he laughed, it was as if he knew EXACTLY what I was thinking. “But…” he went on, “seriously…thanks for taking that bullet.” I smiled, “I had to complete that last day as your bodyguard.” “You know…” Aaron interrupted, “Gui Gui, where’d you learn to shoot like that?” “Oh…” I laughed, “when I was five…my grandpa, pa and I would go to the shooting gallery, and we’d practice.” “Why don’t you go anymore?” he asked. “Wo-” I started, “i…have no one to go with…” “What about your pa and grandpa?” Aaron questioned me. I really didn’t want to answer it…I didn’t know HOW to… “Come on, Gui Gui,” Wang Zi cut in, “we have to go get your shoulder examined, and the bullet needs to be taken out.” “Oh…” I mumbled, “ok…wait one second.” I pulled out a paper from my bag, and wrote: I know I WASN’T suppose to pay…but I REALLY had to. I couldn’t leave without paying…- Gui Gui.
I went through my bag for money, but I remembered…the only money I HAD was the check in my pocket. “Aiyo,” I mumbled. “Need money?” Aaron laughed. “Oh,” I began, “mei-mei you.” He took out a hundred dollar bill, “Here.” He stuck it out, towards me. “No,” I began, “its okay.” “NO,” he said, “let me help you, please…” I looked up at him, and he gave me the ‘puppy eyes’. “Aiyo,” I laughed, “don’t give me the puppy eyes, I’ll take it, ok? Just THIS once.” I accepted the money. Then I put it with the note, and left it at the counter.
